  • use feeding tweezers ! you can hurt your python and you !! i would not like to feel those teeth .

  • @mawisau Read the description.

  • Wow I gotta give you credit for staying calm because that bite looked like it really hurt and for going back in without tongs.

  • @lawquiet314 Thanks. I was more worried about hurting her than my finger. It was getting pretty bad after a while though. I made sure I got the mouse in position the second time instead of checking on the cam like I was when she got me. Fail on my part.

  • You wont do that again in a hurry. Especially with a GTP.

  • @Ribbitmefoot I know. It was totally my fault. I normally have it close to their noses. I was too busy trying to check the cam. I've been bitten two times feeding in years of raising GTPs. Both times while trying to record it. Go figure.

  • next time you should probably use a tonges good video quite funny

  • @boas29 Thanks. I tried to make it light hearted. I do use tongs some times, prefer not to with GTPs.

  • GTP teeth are nasty. No thanks lol.

  • @AmsterdamFire321 Tell me about it!

  • @AmsterdamFire321 They'd probably look a lot bigger after some of that Amsterdam fire too. Ha!

  • Nice way to stress your snake out and confuse it, idiot.

  • @Rhomany Description read fail.

  • @williamclark77 I read the description. You should always feed them via rod. The snake would have been confused as to which was the food and which was your hand because you had the rats scent on your hand, you are warm blooded and they don't have keen eye sight. The feeding process is similar to the shedding process in the sense that they're extremely sensitive when this takes place. You would have stressed the snake out a great deal by doing this and there is really no point of not using a rod.

  • @Rhomany I used to always use tongs. I began experimenting using my hand with them after she hit the tongs a few times then refused food. The scent is irrelevant. She has struck a spoon before trying to remove poop, hence why I don't enter their cages at night. She was not harmed and still ate even after this "stressful" event. I posted this to show on a forum why not to feed with your hands, and if you do, how to not cause harm in case an accident occurs.

  • @williamclark77 The scent is in fact critical. Scent is any snakes most powerful and relied upon sense.

  • @Ribbitmefoot Yes it is in most, especially terrestrial species. Some will strike at movement before taking time to smell. This one usually smells first, but has struck as soon as she saw movement at things inside her cage with no prey scent around. I have had others do the same.

  • @williamclark77 GTP's might not cause much damage to you, but they are easily stressed and don't do well in captivity so it sickens me to see one of my countries most beautiful native animals being treated like this by somebody who is obviously uneducated in keeping them. I wish they weren't traded around the world like ornaments for people to look at/experiment with like this.

  • @Rhomany I beg to differ. This gtp is 4 years old and has missed 3 meals her entire life on a 7-10 day schedule - all 3 times after hitting the tongs, all fecal exams negative for parasites, is not shy at all, has never bitten or even hissed (as a neo doesn't count) in defense/aggression, does not have to be removed from her cage to handle or clean as she will come out on your arm at her will, and has never had any sickness. If that's not doing well in captivity I don't know what it.

  • I see scales of green. Red blood too.... And I think to myself what a wonderful world!!!! xD

  • @EpicDanceFreak Bwahahaha!

  • i keep a little spray bottle with vodka or any alcohol and if you get bitten you just spray once and your snake will let go nd it is ot harmfull for ur snake either ! just thought id share my trick

  • @liso974 Thanks. I used to keep some by my burm cage just in case. Never needed it to see if it worked thank goodness.

  • if that was me i would open the cage, throw the mouse in and run like hell

  • @InvincibleSamuri Or call Chuck Norris!

I usually get the mouse up to her before she strikes. I was too busy watchin the cam. Fail moment on my part.

  • haha

  • @pheasanthunter123 That's what she said!

  • I'm not trying to start an argument. Your animal looks very healthy & has a nice big enclosure. She seems well cared for. Nevertheless, this is not a difference of opinion. Any experienced herper will agree- FEEDING BY HAND IS AN IMPROPER & POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PRACTICE, PERIOD. It falls under the category that many herpers refer to as "stupid feeding procedures" mainly when they are talking about being bitten by snakes. If you use the feeding equipment properly, the snake will not bite it.

  • @TXGTPS Thank you for taking time to comment. I don't really have a retort besides what I've already typed. I do appreciate your input and it is noted. I titled it "how not to feed..." I almost didn't post it because I've had two feeding errors in 5 or so years of raising gtps, both times while trying to video.

I built several more enclosures two years ago and planned to breed the one in this video but haven't been able to find a Lereh male.

  • @TXGTPS Sure, any experienced herper may agree. But what about an experienced derper?

  • I did read the description, and I didn't say she was harmed. Again, the point is that ANY TIME A SNAKE BITES YOU (ESPECIALLY IN A FEEDING RESPONSE) THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR HARM TO THE ANIMAL. And once again, this is especially true of chondros. I am 31, I have kept snakes my entire life, & between my own ventures & various jobs I have cared for many thousands of them. We currently have 42 GTPs plus 10 here on loan, & I have owned over 60 of them & cared for many more since the '90s. -p-

  • Man your not smart at all if you feed your snakes like that atleast hold the mous in the tail...

  • @Gladnazist1488 I've tried. Then it is dangling down and not aimed towards them.

  • I'm sorry, but I have to comment one more time for those who don't want to take the time to read my previous comments: ALWAYS USE PROPER EQUIPMENT (TONGS, FORCEPS, HEMOSTATS, ETC.) WHEN FEEDING ANY SNAKE OF ANY SPECIES AND ANY SIZE!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!! TO DO OTHERWISE IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND POSES A RISK TO YOUR ANIMAL'S HEALTH AND WELL BEING. PLEASE USE COMMON SENSE. THANK YOU. -p-

  • @TXGTPS She was not harmed in any way. Only a little nip to me. Nothing more. Please read the description. I prefer not to use tongs on gpts. After having them hit the tongs then refuse to eat I quit using them most of the time. I've been bitten twice while feeding in 5ish years. I will still whip out the tongs if the mouse is too gimped up to stick out straight or if someone is here watching.

  • Not to mention that human hands are often filthy, and you could cause a bacterial infection in the animal's mouth that could prove fatal. Another mistake you made was to leave the animal wrapped around you after she let go with her mouth. You have already made the major mistake, and now you are risking her biting back down on you. You should have VERY gently removed her as soon as she let go with her mouth. The title says it all. For anyone watching- PLEASE learn from this mistake!!! -p-

  • @TXGTPS Bacteria on my hands? Really? If you've been around them long you can easily read her body language and tell she isn't thinking about striking again at that point. She was after a few minutes when I started moving. I waited to remove her to see if she would let go on her own without me moving her. As soon as her body language showed she may strike again I moved her to snap her out of it.

  • @TXGTPS By remove I meant remove her from the cage. I did not and would not try to uncoil one. Period. You seem very passionate and gtps. I applaud you for it as I am too. However, we have a difference of opinion. After having them hit the tongs a few times I decided to try using my fingers only to prevent not only missing a meal, but potentially damaging a jaw. I simply preferred it, have stuck with it, and haven't had any negatives from it - for the snakes, not my fingers.

  • You are completely missing the point. You talk about how the snake is usually well behaved, and how you wouldn't do this with a snake big enough to "pose a threat". The problem is not human injury. If you hand feed a snake like this, you deserve it. No, the problem is potential injury to the animal. Especially with GTPs. They are very much prone to spinal injuries, and having to remove one that has you coiled up in a feeding response is an easy way to cause such an injury. -p-

  • @TXGTPS I didn't remove her off of me. If you have handled them much you know they prefer to grasp something horizontal and not tilted or vertical. All I did was held her perch vertical for a few seconds. She almost immediately began uncoiling and looking for something else to hold onto. Not at any time did I manually try to unwind her. IMO, there is a bigger risk in injury (to them) from hitting tongs very hard.

  • hey kids!!! THIS IS HOW TO BE STUPID!!! NOW REMEMBER DONT BE CHEAP AND BUY FEEDING SNAKE FORKS!!! N DONT BE A PUSSY FEED YOUR SNAKE LIVE MICE OR RATS.. FOR NEXT TIME REMEMBER THIS IS HOW TO BE STUPID!

  • @hunterallen48 A+ for reading the description before commenting. If you ever see a live feeding go wrong you'll never use live prey again.

  • Your blood is a whole lot more tastier than that of the dead mouse. Now how to approach your head area for a more tastier portion.

  • @HPPC Ask your mom. She's very familiar with how my head taste. :p

  • @williamclark77 Did that hurt???? or did it feel like a pinch basically?

  • @InvincibleSamuri Think lots of needles.

  • Their hugs are more complete than hugs by dogs.

  • @HPPC At least they won't hump you. Dogs will.

  • cut your finger nails it's disgusting.

  • @huntman1412 But then who will pick my nose?!?

  • I can understand why u feed buy hand. if u have ever seen one have mouth rott from getting cut buy tongs its a sad sight. But i bet that hurt a little bit.

  • @SequioaGTP Thank goodness I have never had that happen to one of mine. I have saw pics and it is sad. Thank you. It didn't hurt too bad. I've only been bitten twice in 5 or so years. Feeding anyway. It probably wouldn't have happened if I had gotten the mouse up to her instead of worrying about the cam.

  • problem was since you held the mouse like that she locked onto your hand. and... your hand also smelled like the mouse. so didnt matter what she grabbed onto as long as it smelled like the mouse.

  • @TheHellSpawn000 They, she moreso than some others, go for the movement. If you watch it in slo mo, she nails the mouse's head, but her mouth is wide open and gets my finger too. They, she especially, will grab your hand any time in feeding mode regardless. I've been bit waaay more cleaning a cage than feeding. Enough that I don't even attempt cleaning at night anymore. If one poops at night it stays in the cage till daylight. Ha!

  • Just wondering sence snakes let go when they stop feeling beeting. Did your finger stop *breathing*?

  • @100good2 Awesome question. Not yet. She would've kept holding if I hadn't taken her out. All I did was held her perch vertical. It's uncomfortable, kind of like they'll slide down it, and they will try to find something horizontal to hang on. After about a minute she let go and wanted to find a more comfortable spot. That's when I started recording again. You can spray them with water. I didn't want to except as a last resort since I'd already caused her enough stress.

  • This is a very stupid question but did he bite you ? lol did it hurt???

  • @xXArabianLovexX Not too bad. They're teeth are really long, but sharp so it doesn't hurt as bad. As long as you don't jerk back the bites aren't bad. Jerk away and it'll tear your skin, hurt you, and could hurt them.

  • @williamclark77 Ohh okay I was like man he drew blood ! lol you have a very nice Python(: Lol I get scared very easily so if something jerked at me I would probably jerk back lol shows you how I am not a snake person lol(;

  • i like GTP!!!!

  • @LetzterWille Thanks! Me too!

  • autsch^^ nice video and a nice viridis Baby!1

  • @LetzterWille Thanks! She's my favorite. The video does her beauty no justice.

  • Just want to say, gorgeous snake.

  • @Azriel2k3 Thank you very much. I wish the video showed how pretty she is.

  • 0:32 Life comes at you fast.

  • @spoty420 And I'm slow!

  • dont know why people raise snakes as pets , they are creepy animals doesnt matter how friedly they are ,ther is nothing cute about them

  • @amigogon Different strokes for different folks. They're much less messy, noisy, annoying, or expensive as a dog, cat, or human. Being stuck inside all day from bad weather with an 8 month old pup and a 3 year old child will make you appreciate the simplicity of a reptile!

  • the noise at 5:12 scared me so badly! Gah! xD

  • @lyric142 Haha. I was recording this with my dslr cam. No auto focus. That was the sound of refocusing it.

  • What's the point of doing that?

  • @v03dan Doing what? I explained a lot in the description and previous comments. I use tongs some times. Most of the time, with GTPs, I don't.

  • 00:32 ahh.... it missed

  • @rudy8819 Fail on my part. I normally get it closer than that. I was too busy checkin the cam.

  • if you have snakes you are GOING to get bit theres no way around it..

  • You know...you could've worn gloves

  • @r0ckyr3pt1le915 Her teeth might get caught in them. The bites really aren't bad if you don't jerk back.

  • @williamclark77 very true you have a good point.

  • shes tasted blood and she wants more hahahhaha beautiful snake,

  • @grimartwork Thanks! The video does her no justice. I hope her looks are genetic.

  • I've seen some stupid shit on youtube, and Ive seen some pointless shit on youtube...this is BOTH!!

There is absolutely NO reason to get bit feeding a pet snake...NONE!! But hey, at least you have a 4:1 like-to-dislike ratio and over 17,000 views!! Let it bite you in the face and you'll have 10-times that amount!! In fact, I DARE YOU to put the rat in your mouth and let your GTP snatch it out!! That would get a thumbs up "like" from me!

  • @TarantulaNerd Somebody didn't read the description.....

  • @williamclark77

Yeah...apparently YOU, Mr Contradiction. If you insist on feeding by hand, at least hold the fucking rat by its tail so it lessens the likelihood of you getting tagged. My point was, you shouldn't have to spill blood to feed your snake!!

  • @TarantulaNerd Mr Contradiction? Anyway, I've been bitten twice in 5ish years feeding GTPs. Here from paying attention to the cam instead of her. I don't suggest others do because I won't jerk back or anything else to harm her in the rare chance I get grabbed too. You can't hold them by the tail. The mouse dangles down swinging instead of aimed at them. I still use tongs sometimes if the prey are gimped up from being froze or whatever.

  • L O L

  • eat more. your hand is so thin.

  • @ZetCorteza But it makes what I'm holding look bigger...

  • @williamclark i am planning on getting one of these bad boys female type of course as i love snake i have had a ball python and i currently have a kenyan sand boa i know this GTP will be alot different any adive

  • @T3AmCaRnAg3 A proper cage is VERY important. It must be able to hold consistent temps/humidity. Hot side of 81-84,low 75-77, humidity 40-60%. They do NOT need constant high (+75%). No screen tops. They don't need much ventilation. I prefer top heat from a wellprotected heat lamp or radiant heat panel. Set the cage up for several weeks before buying to be sure there's no problems. Buy a 6+ month old from a reputable breeder with feeding records. Ask questions!

  • om nom nom nom

  • What a dick, the whole bullshit tying about thembgoing for warmth rather than smell just backs up the fact your a dick because you could warm the mouse up and still use foreseps.

  • @thedeeptone1986 Their food is always warm. Thawed during the day then heated right before feeding at night. Again, as already stated in the description, I sometimes use tongs but prefer not to with GTPs.

  • 10 points 4 being a dumb ass

  • @sincitysnakes Score!

  • This, children, is why we use TONGS. And preferably remove the reptile from its enclosure when feeding, so it knows not to go for hands at meal time. Anyway, props for not panicking, that could have been ten times worse for you and the gorgeous python if you had. I "liked" this video, because I think it's very educational. Most people seem to believe it could never happen to them, and then find out the hard way. Hope you and all who watch this learn a valuable lesson. Again, beautiful snake!

  • @xDember Thank you for a thoughtful, constructive post. I recommend others use tongs and have already commented as to why I prefer not to on GTPs only. I do disagree about moving to a feeding bin, especially arboreal species like green tree pythons, amazons, or emeralds. They'll typically go out of feeding mode once moved anyway and moving after eating only chances causing a regurge. They have very good aim. In 5ish years of having GTPs I've only been bitten twice feeding.

  • Now that's what I call "Bonding".....lol. Not many have the control or patience for that, I applaud you for that!!

  • @51supernova50 Thank you kindly. It was my fault. I'm more than willing to go through a little discomfort to keep from causing harm - it made a cool "how not to" vid at least!

  • what a cool vid

  • @IamCully Thanks. You should've been there!

  • after five minutes she found out that was your finger

  • @williamclark77 i dont see why ppl get mad at u for doing that. if it doesnt bother you, then who cares? its better than the snake breaking a tooth on metal tongs! i just think its funny how ppl try to tell u how to take care of the snake when its so obvious that they dont have any knowledge of gtp's... ppl, just think before you speak, or dont speak at all; youre just wasting your breath. anyways, sick video and good job for staying calm/still

  • @095Kswiss Thanks! I've had them grab the tongs a few times then refuse to eat or coil the tongs with the prey. That's mainly why I rarely use them. They always still eat on the rare occassion my finger gets grabbed. It's only happened a few times. I normally get the prey up to their face before they strike. I was too busy trying to watch the cam here. Go figure. Heck, I think it came out more interesting. Ha.

  • Ha that was a cool and interesting video, made me laugh :)

  • lol props man dont listin to idiots u did good my snakes are the same way with tongs they dont like em great GTP lol it was a love bite :D

  • @edwardcroft Thanks. Yup, as long as you know there's a good chance you might be put in the above situation, don't panic, whine, jerk back, or anything to harm the snake then there's nothing wrong with it. I definitely wouldn't feed any big burms, rets, or annies by hand!

  • @williamclark77 i still think bloods are the worst they wont let go for 40+ mins lol my oketee corn grabbed me the other day thinking i was a rat i got her to let go by holding the real rat to her nose she didnt even draw blood through my my finger

  • @edwardcroft I doubt I'd hand feed bloods if I had them. They get big! Well, fat. Haha. Corns are so cool. I picked up a candy cane corn for kids to handle when they were over. But, she has turned into one of my favorites. I have a video of me feeding her on here. She is gentle eatin mice and I know she's smart enough to distinguish my hand. I can hold one loosely in my fist and she will push my fingers apart to get to it and pull it out. She goes nuts and attacks at rat scent though!

  • @williamclark77 ha i wish mine were that gentle but they arnt lol my savanah monitor is crazy lol she will try to jump from my arms yet shes gental

  • @edwardcroft Got to love how each one has its individual personality. I'd LOVE to have a large monitor, but not until my two year old is bigger. Kid's fingers are too much like meal worms!

  • @williamclark77 mines young 2 1/2 feet still growing lol she grabs like a small child with her claws

  • mad props for letting her chill there!

  • one word...IDIOT. What kind of fool feeds a snake with his hands?? You may want to learn some stuff before looking after snakes.

  • @krisiles1983 Idiot is a subjective term, one which I won't deny. However, being an idiot for this video I'll deny. No harm was done to her, only a little blood to my hand. I don't feed anything large enough to do harm by my hands. My burms were always fed from tongs, long ones. However, my colubrids and GTPs are typically fed by hand.

What harm was done to her?

  • @williamclark77 i didnt say any harm was done to her, all i said was idiot for hand feeding a snake, anyone with a little bit of knowledge on snakes knows never hand feed a snake unless your using tweezers.

  • @krisiles1983 And again, idiot why? I CHOOSE to hand feed her as well as my others that don't get big enough to do real harm if an accident occurs. She has missed twice, hitting the tongs, then refusing to eat. She's only gotten my hand two other times in 3 years. Each time still eating after. I HIGHLY doubt tongs would injur her. However, they are more troublesome than a rare bite to my hand. It's simply my choice and one I will disagree is negative.

  • @williamclark77 If she hits the tongs then its not hand feeding is it. I just think it's stupid to be ok with risking your hands to infection to feed a snake when its just as easy to use tongs and avoid and deep cuts and infections. plus the snake will associate your hands with food in the future and is more likely to strike at hands when you go in to pick it up to hold.

  • @krisiles1983 I stated in my last reply why I prefer to hand feed and usually not use tongs (I still do on occassion) with gtp's. I disagree about increasing their chance of biting - WITH GTP'S ONLY. They are keen to strike on movement and heat signal vs, say burms, who rely heavily on scent. I would never hand feed one for the reasons you stated. They were also hook trained. I still never suggest anyone feed from their hands.

Thank you for debating instead of merely saying "IDIOT" Haha

  • Why do you feed her with your hands?

don't be suprised if this happens....

  • @MrBlacksnipe Simply because I prefer to. Also, as you can see, she strikes very hard. I don't like it when she misses and hits the tongs. I'd rather her hit my hand than them. I feed all of mine by hand. I don't have anything large enough to do real damage though.

  • nice tree python

  • @sandlpetty1 Thanks. She's my favorite. I'm hoping her calm temperament combined with, as you can see, strong food drive proves genetic.

  • TOP I like this video

  • Ow ow ow. ;__; Oh yeah, been bit by a python before. Got a vice grip, man.

  • @Phoenixxfyre Theyt have a grip now!

  • Did you do that on purpose? I don't see how you could do that by accident.

  • @8BitBastard I didn't get bit on purpose. I don't mind it. But then again I don't ask for it either. Haha.

  • your python is so beautiful =D too bad i cant have a snake. i love snakes... my state doesnt sell these snakes... =(

  • @CalvinTeeKai Which state? I'm not aware of any states that ban green tree pythons in the US, only the larger species and local species. Which state if you don't mind me asking? I'm only curious.

  • i hope you got off on that bc i did. lol your crazy

  • @MitchConner4 I laughed the entire time it was goin on. Go ahead and laugh at me!

  • lmao so did the snake ever actually eat its meal?

  • @souldiesoul Watch till the end. Yes, she did. I quit recording after she coiled it.

  • who does that???! goes into a snakes enclosure without feeding tongs, and especially with a snake like a green tree python and their size fangs!! lmao

  • @souldiesoul They don't have fangs. They have rather large teeth though.

  • I wasnt talking about the snake you moron! I was meaning you!

  • @souldiesoul No shit?

  • what a dumb ass!!

  • @souldiesoul Hey! She's not dumb! Just got excited and missed.

  • @williamclark77 I'm sure he was talking about the owner...

  • @williamclark77 he means you idiot dont feed any snake like that

  • @xlCAPOlx He meant me? No shit?!?! Good thing you chimed in to tell me so no one would dare think I was being a smartazz.

And why don't you? She wasn't harmed one bit.

  • @williamclark77 I'm pretty sure souldiesoul was talking about the guy

  • Lmfaoo, round 2!

  • @CrabbinAssNigga She tried!

  • All respect to you for not ripping your finger out ore anything else that would hurt the snake. But that you try to feed it the same way like half a min after getting loose haha your kinda crazy. And BTW Amazing GTP really nice 8D

  • @SidPower93 Haha. Thanks. I've always hand fed all of my snakes that won't get big enough to actually do real damage. I started doin that after having a few strike and hit the tongs then not eat. As you can see, they'll still eat if they miss and hit my finger. Haha! This was the first time she ever coiled and only the 2nd or 3rd time she got me. It's not hard to not jerk back if you're expecting it.

  • Nice video but why are you feeding such a large snake small mice?

  • @BpRangler That was actually a large mouse from Rodent Pro. It's just a gimpy one I grabbed out of the bag.

  • Did you try feeding tongs? I think there available at pet stores like PETCO. Also, you are a BAMF for not screaming in pain, i hear those bites hurt like hell!

  • @DLISTPRODUCTIONS The bites really aren't bad if you don't jerk back. It does hurt though. Those teeth are LONG. I don't and never would hand feed burms, retics, bloods, etc by hand. I always used tongs on my burms. I do and always have hand fed anything that won't ever get big enough to do any real harm. Just my preference. Believe it or not I rarely get bit. I normally get the prey right close to them before they strike. This was my reward for worrying about videoing. Haha

  • What went through your mind that whole time? haha...My male 3 and a half foot ball python bit me and it scared the shit outta me like a shocking scared and nice way to take the bite

  • @TheEasonator Haha. Thanks. The bites really aren't bad if you don't jerk back. I guess I just got used to it with babies and don't freak out. I was picking up a square bail of hay once and a big rat snake was by it. I didn't see it till after it grabbed my hand. I jerked back from reaction. It tore my hand up pretty bad. Then I felt bad for thinkin I might've ripped some of its teeth oiut.

  • @williamclark77 That looked painful with him cutting off the circulation like that

  • You really are a jackass.

  • @morelia21701 Why is that? What harm was done?

  • Guy: damn u mofu snake: Somethings WORNG with this mouse

  • @RIRITHEKING I just taste good.

  • Awesome video...hilarious with the comments!!

  • @LMWCannan Thanks. It was supposed to be.

  • TONGS

  • @MrMrballpython Already discussed about the tongs. I don't use them on my gtps or colubrids. Nothin bad happened other than a lil pain on my part. I don't jerk back and hurt her. Believe it or not, I've only been good bitten twice feeding in years.

  • Are you a fucking idiot? It's called TONGS

  • @BrianMcGooch Yes

  • OW, FUCK.

  • Maybe try holding it from the tail just a thought.

  • use feeding thongs

  • @XxSLASHER1xX Alreadcy commented about using tongs. Yes, I recommend them and do sometimes.

  • are thay aggressive ?
