  • how thin is that brush? you got a lot of detail with it. this is amazing! when I do watercolors, all the colors run together, then the picture looks like poo.

  • @earthtiger12345 How thin? It's really hard to depict, but to compare it's 3 times smaller than a nail polish brush. Thank you :) Watercolors takes a lot of practice~

  • Um where can i get really thin brushes for outling and do i add water to my water colour paints?

  • @aqua101rocks You can find them at Art stores. I know Michaels for sure carries them, and yes, you add water to watercolors. The more you add the more transparent the paint.

  • Do you start with lighter colors and then layer darker with watercolor? All I know is, when you start from light to dark with eye shadow (Sorry, I watch Michelle Phan alot) it doesn't become muddy :)

  • @Glameyes1 Yes, I start from light to dark. It's about the same as applying eye shadow :)

  • ikaw na talented!

  • lol so im not the only one that useses that type of brush? i feel better now haha :P

  • whats the name of the song

  • HOLY. SHIT. You hypnotize me with your skills. How many years have you been using watercolors? :D

  • @Hijinxify Maybe 8 years? I lost track. But I've been in a huge art block for a few years now...

  • these are my fave painting tutorials:D can u do more??

  • Woow That's stunning! U got talent ;] Keep up the good work! :]

  • Woow That's stunning! U got talent ;]

  • So you have to do some and let it dry to do layering. I ask because sometimes you can do it for certain affect while it is wet and I wanted to know which approach you take. I love the song, "Hey Yeah" too.

  • @j2cool2 Yeah there are different techniques. This was just one way Iliked to do a lot.

  • what is the name of the paper that resists the watercolors?

  • u are a music listener...

  • wow!

Do you have any suggestions for a beginner?

How to start watercolor and what books to read?

  • @Caram3lLov33 Well, I never really looked at watercoloring books when I started. Preferably tutorial paintings on Youtube is a lot of help and you can try finding painting tutorials on deviantArt also. Some artists should have step-by-step on how to paint. That, and a lot of practice and experimenting! :)

  • Ur amazing.

  • MORTAL KOMBAT!!!

  • ummmmm...are you a mangaka? xD this is AMAZING! i tried water colors (and they were pretty high quality) and i ruined one of my best drawings D: how much did you practice with water colors?

  • @Vocaloid898 That was my future Dream Job when I was younger, but unfortunately I'm not. When I started, I just practiced a lot that's all. Experiment!

  • Wow, my watercolors have never allowed me to work in such small spaces and in such detail as you do there. Incredible! The final product was astounding, I hope to acheive that level of awesome-ness someday :]

  • Im just starting with this sort of thing, water-coloring pictures, and i was wondering wat you would reccommend to use as paper if you are trying to use it in like oh i don't know selling at an anime convention? ^^

  • @supersaiyangohan2 I use Kent Paper, it's a comic book type of paper that can be found on the internet. It works well with watercolors and copic markers, but if you're looking for something that you can find near you, like an art store for example, Bristol board or watercolor paper works too. It all depends on your preference though.

  • amazing work!!! what was the name of the song in the beginning of the video?

  • Name of songs are listed at the end of the video in sequential order.

  • wow. i didnt know for each layer u made it less diluted with water... o.o" heh heh... thats why my paintings look all wrinkley and retarded... lol! this helped thank you so much. the only problem i have with water color tho is i have no patience. at all. -.-"

  • I need to take a lesson on folds or something. I'm horrible at them. T~T

  • well tht dint explain anything, how did u get to the basic base of paint from drawing?

  • The first layer that I used was a light base. Very watery and thin. Then each layer added less water and more paint.

  • @FlamingStrawberry thankyou ^^ btw your very talented

  • I am going to friend you

  • I prefer to use less layers since I like my paintings to have this Kubo-like effect; not short on detail but let the water do it's cool effects on it's own. But if you want extreme detail like you just did that's a great way to get it. Nice job :D

  • WOW O.O That was AMAZING :-)

  • what kind of art brushes do you use, and where can i find them? I'm trying to paint my characters in a one piece...

  • I updated the information about this video on what I used.

I bought the brushed from Michael's.

  • I updated the information on this video on what I use.

I bought the brushes from Michael's.

  • Do you start with a light base coat and then get darker or what?

P.S. thanks so much for posting this, I'm trying to learn how to draw in this sorta style.

  • Yes, light base which is basically a thinner layer of paint and then darker coat and sometimes slightly thicker.

  • Wow your really amazing!!! ^__^

  • can i ask you what kind of paintbrush did you use? ^.^

  • American Painter and the type I think is called an eye liner.@azalie89

  • good choice bleach song :P

  • REALLLY awesome..huh^^ great job....5* and sub xD

pfff i also want t learn how to draw like this...pfff i'll just practise hoping that i 'll improve...how did you learn??

  • Funny, question. I watched a lot of cartoons and anime when I was younger. I started drawing for fun. I didn't expect that I would end up drawing the way I do though.

  • You make it look so easy.. T_T

So awesome, must have taken AGES to finish this! :D

  • Awesome job ^.^

(and that is one cool paintbrush...)

  • what didyou use to make the layers? a pen? but its watercolour right? huh? please help me out here!

  • Paintbrush? Yes, it's watercolours.

  • ^_^ is one of the bes drawing (lo siento eske noe skribo muy bn el ingles pero te que do jenial) whar are the name music

  • Name of the music are listed at the end of the tutorial.

  • awesome skills man! 5 star rating for u. hey is the second song from Bleach?

  • Yes.

  • What kind of paper do you use?

I'm deciding between sketch and watercolor.

  • Kent Deleter paper. It's manga paper special use for watercolors/copic markers.

  • Love the detail on the hair and eyes, skills. Oh, what's the name of the first song used and the singer.

  • Perfume and the song is called Computer City.

  • Awesome thanks... hope to see more of you videos

  • your video help a lot, i try this on my drawing one day, probably because i didn't use the right brush, the line didn't come out like yours that thick. guess i need to change a brush.

  • Yes.

  • 6:01 < Outkast - Hey Ya

  • 6:01 <Outkast - Hey Ya

  • Do u ink before u paint?

  • Uhm, in most of my paintings I usually ink first. In this piece I inked with paint, so I did that afterwards.

  • what is the song at 6:01?

    And awesome drawing btw.

  • Hello! i was really wondering, how long does it usually take to completly draw a single peice. Also how long does it take to get good? i'm seventeen is it too late to learn/draw that stuff in spare time (like an hour a day) thank you.

  • It all depends how detailed the picture is. Usually more than ten hours. Rarely under 7.

How long to get good? That's almost like a rhetorical question, but I didn't expect drawing to be something I'm kinda good at. Everybody is different, I self taught myself to paint for 5 years, a different person might be able to learn quicker than that, and so forth.

It's never too late to learn how to draw in your spare time. It's never too late for almost about anything.

  • waa~ amazing

  • what kind of Watercolor did you use?!!

  • Reeve's Artist Watercolours. Some cheap stuff.

  • wat is this song?

  • The beginning song is Computer City by Perfume.

  • it sounds good

u should try the songs by halcali

  • are you using some kind of special paper?

  • It's called Kent Paper. They're one of the type of paper manga artists use. It works really well with Copic markers and watercolors.

  • ahhh no wonder the paper is of better quality. im not sure i can find those papers easily, would you mind describing the texture and characteristics of the paper?

  • I can't really compare to what type of paper Kent can be similar to. It's a thick kind of paper, really smooth and it can soak up really well.

I don't really think there's a type of paper you can find at an art store that is similar to Kent though. I tried so many different kinds to find out which is close or just like it.

  • Hi, your pictures and style are great, do you are on Deviant art? A wanna so much see your pictures there. So please, write me :)

  • Ahh..Where did you get the brush? I can never find such a small brush.. :(

  • I got them from Michael's. The brand I believe is American Painter.

  • Wow~ I should DEFINITELY try using for than like 2-3 layers -.-.... What kind of watercolor are ou using exactly? Like a watercolor pen?

  • Cheap watercolours, like Reeves or Marie's. I used a really tiny paint brush.

  • woot the girl from elemental gelade or i think it is lolll

  • Hmm?

  • just sayin lol she looks ALOT like that one girl from elemental gelade. the main evil one i think loll

  • Oh, haha. My character I drew is a guy though. I drew him a bit too pretty.

  • WHAT!?!??!?!? o.o

  • Hahah. Yep!

  • do you sell your art?

  • I would if I knew where to sell them.

  • Do you always use the same brown tone or is it getting darker from time to time?

  • one question, r u using water color paper? becuz it seems that ur paper doesnt ruffle oh and ur colors r really beautiful!

  • I used Kent DELETER paper. It's manga paper for copics and watercolors.

  • whats up with the mortal kombat theme?????? xD lol

and btw, how many colors are in your watercolor set?

  • do you color it with watercolor pencil then

get paintbrush with water on it and put it over

    thats what i doo

  • I colour it with watercolour and water? I don't know how to use watercolour pencils, haha.

  • rofl, "MOORRRTAAAL KOOOMBAT!!!" xD

  • - nice artwork and painting skillzz

    - but what's the name of the second song? i think i remember it from an anime op or ending?

  • wow!you reallg amazing

one of my friend also good at using water color

but he spend 6 hours on doing only 7inX7in pic...

the result looks like a photoshop coloring

  • what kind of markers are those =P sorry about my english =P i dont know if i writte that well =P

  • They're not markers. They're watercolours :)

  • nice *W*

  • Wow that's all i can say!

  • is the first song by perfume?

  • Yes :)

  • Wow, you're one of the best artists I've seen on YouTube! I just go tsome watercolors and I wanted to try this but I don't think I have the patience x.X

  • That is just amazing. How long have you been drawing/painting for? I must have been drawing (manga) for at least 5 years, and I still suck D=.

  • I've been drawing since 3rd grade--which is about 11 years. Then I've been painting since 8th grade... so about 6 years? It doesn't seem that long time ago though.

  • What kind of watercolor are you using?

  • I use Reeves. Some cheap watercolour set haha!

  • Mortal Kombat! \o/

    =^_^=

  • fantastic O_O

  • HOLY MOW!!!

    COOL BRUSH!!

So sharp, looks like markers O_O!!

  • Mortal Kombat!

  • Best vid lesson I saw! Thanks for comments, you're really good! *__*

I'm gonna try it, thx very much!

  • Very nice! I suck at layering and folds x_x good job!

  • this is truely amazing!! :O can I ask You a question? What's the number of the brush You're using? Or is it like a copic marker or sth? :)

  • The brush doesn't have a number, but it's an eyeliner kind... the smallest I could find.

  • my god.. you're amazing.. what kind of brush are you using?

  • American Painter? Eyeliner kind.

  • oh... ok. thanks so much!

  • ahh its nice to see a fellow watercolorist, lol, people are always like its so hard! water goes everywhere! when the trick is to just use a small brush, it soaks up more paint than water if u add a drop of water to your paint first :D

  • really amazing work!? i'm very impressed! question, how do you make skin tones? i've been wondering that for a while, right now i use a copic marker but i want to know how i make paint skin tones please.

  • Skin tones when painting? Mix colours like sienna brown and white. Add a tiny bit red in it.

It depends what kind of skin color you're trying to get :).

Sometimes there's a paint colour that's already skin toned though. ^_^

  • thanx i'll try that, i normally use a Copic marker but i'm gonna try that, thanx a lot =3, btw KEEP PAINTING?! your vids are awsome and they help me a lot, so keep doing what u're doing and post more up, thanx ;)

  • what are the song names you used?

  • Is at the ending credits 6:50

  • i was watching it all chill and all, extremely impressed and whatever - and then i saw WHAT?! that's WATERCOLOR?!?!?!?!

u totally rock my world or something ;-;<333

how long have you been working with watercolor?????????

  • LOL!! Haha, yes, watercolour!

How long? Uhm... 4 years? I started experimenting with acrylic first. (Really don't know how to use them) and then got with watercolour.

Just years of using them for fun, I eventually got the hand of it.. I guess? it's pretty fun ^_^

Thanks for the kind comment though~ I highly appreciate it!

  • ar you using the kind of water colours that the paint is already in a palette or are you using poster colours?

  • WOW! But why does it have alot of WRINKLES its too much and it kinda kills the drawing??? ={

  • There's different styles, and it varies from each person's art in how they use folding techniques.

  • omgosh i admire ur patience

ps how do u know where the material has folds etc? Is there a concept 2 drawing them or do i have2 spend countless hours on looking at fabrics and getting what is how?

    ^^

  • Patience? Hahaha, I'm a very impatient person--but I guess when it comes to a piece that I'm into it's good to have patience...

Folds? Yes, actually, it's kind of hard to explain, but it's all about common sense. If you're a visual type of person, it would probably be more easy to understand.

  • THANKS XDDD

  • I loooove it~! 838

What was the frist song called by Miku-chan =3?

  • The first song in the tutorial?

  • hey.whats the name of the second song when you started to color the hair.love your art its werry detailed.

  • I believe it's Houki Boshi from Bleach.

  • for the layers do u let the paper totally dry then add another one? also how long did this painting take to finish?

  • It depends one what you want the paint to look like, if you shade right away when it's wet, the paint will dry with a fuzzy look.

I layer over it after it dries--a bit damp... but almost dry.

It took me about 27 hours ^_^ (And I did watch over the hours taken)

  • Are you just painting over a pencil sketch? Also.. what kind of paper do you use? xD

  • Yep ^-^ I used Some type of watercolour paper... I forgot the name though sorry~

  • i been posting all over sorry. what type brush do you normal use

  • i hope you response what type of watercolor did you use

  • I use two different sets... they're the cheap kinds since I'm poor Hahaha

    I use Reeves and Marie's ^_^

  • LOL, I started laughing when the song for the clothes came on, and your like ' I like choosing random songs' it was hilarious

  • what song are you using when you're paintin ghis hair?

  • From the beginning?

It's called Houki Boshi from Eureka7.

  • damn!O_O youre good!!!

  • omg! awesome! love the tutorial!

  • OwO awesome, Meyli...wow, that must've taken sooo long waiting hours to do the next layer...makes me wonder just how u've done so many *awesome* pics if each one requires this much time. It must've taken ages to make anime back when they used to handpaint the cells zomfg...still the results are worth it. I think I'm gonna try doing some painting now...o_O lol can't wait 4 the rest xD C u around ^__^ - Ten-wa-tokku-desu from devart x3

  • Ahhh it's awesome to hear from you in a loong time ^0^~

Hahaha, yeah... I'm trying to get rid of this horrible art block that I had over 3 months now... -sigh-

  • Ahhh it's awesome to hear from you in a loong time ^0^~

Hahaha, yeah... I'm trying to get rid of this horrible art block that I had over 3 months now... -sigh-

  • very cool and informative X) what size brushes do you like?

your attention to detail is mad crazy x) rock on~~!!

  • Haha, thanks ^_^ I'm glad to hear~

I like the 'eye-liner' paint brush.. I think that's what it's called O_O Really small ones very thin are my favourites.

  • LOL, I have the same brush!!! I am a noob painter, just started a few days ago :D Its so much fun, and i keep coming to youtube and other places to help me. This was very nice!

  • I'll be making another tutorial soon! I didn't even finish the second part to this. xD

But if you need any help, I can try putting them in the next tutorial ^_^

  • That would be wonderful! :)

  • Nothing compares to good old fashion Human power I really prefer raw materials compared to computer works, although computers do help save time on the whole making mistakes factor, and they can make it easier to make things look more realistic.

  • I highly agree with you. Then again, those who normally works with computer, should try some traditional work.

  • Awesome ^^

Thank you for uploading, it helped me just to watch you painting ^^

Oh, what kind of paper do you use? ^^

  • Oh~ I'm glad it was helpful!

For this piece, I used Canson Watercolour paper. ^-^

  • Thank you ^^

My paper always get too wet, so I cant really paint on it xD

  • May I know what your username is, on DA? I would like to watch you.

  • It was shown on the video but it's

    Jenninaitsu

    thanks~

  • So amazing! I thought you were using copics at first! Simply fantastic!!!!

  • Yeah, I get that mistake all the time X_X I'm not that good with copics at all... I'm still searching up tutorials for them ^^;

  • great job :D

  • when i look and paint somthing results is amazing but... when it comes to paint somthing my self without waching it suxxxxxxx what is the problem :p

  • ??? I'm soo confused?

  • i think u should practice original more (*3*) u don't even kno my work so maybe don't listen to me but....

when i look at something and paint it i learn stuff but i forget it afterwards... so if u try to duplicate some of those effects by yourself afterwards.. even if ur just trying to duplicate the exact work that u did... i think it will help u adapt those things into ur own style better...

don't know if that will help... (*.*;;)..

  • I love your painting! :3

P.S Is the first song sung by 'Perfume' ?

    (o 3o) ~<3

  • Haha, thanks for watching my on dA~

    And yesh, Perfume ^-^

  • <3 :]
