  • What a song, is it the best ever written? The words are incredible, dark and joyous, isn't art what humanity is all about?

  • heeeeeeeeeeeven

  • one of the best ever played song. played once again played all night long.....magnifique.

  • such a beautiful song.

  • I don't care what which word he sings...I just love hearing him sing this song.

  • Nothing ever happens

  • Nothing ever happens

  • Please listen to this song and then tell me if David says "nothing never happens" or "nothing ever happens" in the Chorus. I swear its nothing never happens. This is how I have always heard it and when i heard k.d langs version, i was disturbed! She says "nothing ever happens" for sure. I think this is wrong but all lyrics on the interwebs say "ever".

Come on! I loved this double negative and it fits with the rest of the lyrics. I hope i am right.

  • @72911e Really interesting. The written lyrics say "ever," but he does say "never." He could mean it in the way you mean, but he could do what so many people do and just use the double negative by accident. The great things about great songs is that they're open to interpretation — I like yours :-)

  • @72911e The lyric as printed above are incorrect. The word THEY before play in the fourth line is not present in the recording. I beleive the word are printed on the album sleeve or cover, but I cannot find my copy.

  • k.d. lang just covered this... it's much slower and softer, but she pays tribute to the lyrics by making the song really ethereal: Go to Amazon or iTunes and search for "lang"and "Sing It Loud"

  • @texasbrian1

agreed. Love her new Album. Here's the kicker. Does David say, ."...a place where nothing, nothing never happens..." or is it "nothing ever happens"? I say nothing never happens is what i hear...but k.d. say "ever" for sure. I think something is alway going on in heaven. Right? I mean that party keep starting again. That kiss keeps repeating. Nice ethereal continutity...but...not w/o the "never" IMO.

  • GENIUS IS NEVER RECOGNIZED IN IT'S OWN TIME.

  • When I die I want this song played at my funeral.

  • When this kiss over it will start again

it won't be any different It will be exactely the same.

  • Hey, this played at the end of that ESPN "30 For 30" documentary, "June 17, 1994"!

BTW, I turned nine years old that day. Now I'm 25. Man, time does sure pass.

  • @TheAntihero6212 That's where I first heard this song. I was born December that same year. Time really does fly.

  • @TheAntihero6212 I remember that date well. I went with a friend of mine to my brothers house in Wilmington NC from Greensboro NC, about Raleigh we decide to see if we can find the finals, what we found was the radio coverage of the OJ chase, I was the same age then as you are now, it was surreal, but it is amazing everything that happened on that date, the ESPN 30by30 doc of that day is a cinematic time capsule truly for the ages.

  • a more banal comment was never written ...

  • GReat but i prefer the Stop Making Sense version

  • Thank you.

  • Genius!

  • This song applies to every human experience. I mean, if you live long enough...
