@MsJollycholly It's because we wait until three years old to give them the upshernish, which is essentially when the hair is cut and the peyes, the sidelocks, are made. The reason for three years old is because at three is when according to Hasidic customs, a boy must start wearing tzitzis, the strings, and a yarmulke all the time. The reasoning behind waiting until then, I honestly don't know.
