Back in the 70's early 80's I had an Acoustic 370 w/301 cabinet and eventually I got an Ampeg 8 10 bottom and ran the head through that. I also had a Kuston cabinet w/2 15" JBL's. for an extension and I had a
'64 P Bass that was stock. We played a gig at Toads in New Haven, Ct....big room, and the sound guy told me that they Stevei Ray was there the week before and that my bass sound blew his guy away. Nice compliment....great amp!
Acoustics were def more reliable than SVT, so great for touring band playing 100's of gigs. Also put out good, clean thumpy sound, but you gotta know how to use them and with the right basses. For example, Rickenbacker's sounded like crap through the Acoustics, but Jazz basses sounded great, if you set the tone up correctly. But for studio use, I would def go for a low-watt Ampeg (B25B or B15) for that sweet warm tone.
god those amps sounded like dog crap. I always used Ampeg SVT amps. they made the 370 transistor head sound like a Sears amp. LOL "wall of sound" funny.
Anyone who owns one knows they are Monster amps. I've got a 371 from the early 70's and an Acoustic B600 with a 8x10 Acoustic cabinet. Nothing tinny, weak or thin about the signal, nasty articulate heavy bass!!! Prefer them over my Ampeg and Peavey bass amps. Never assume a big price tag = quality. Go with what sounds good, don't worry about what your friends play.
Phat amp! what a nice show piece. My original 1973 AMPEG SVT is the mother of all big rigs though. don't know why john didn't use one. Everyone else did.
In a interview Jones said he never liked tube amps. The Acoustic was perfect because it had that "tight" solid state sound w/ a really deep sounding cabinet.
I think things musta changed tho' when he went to the Alembic basses and wanted a more hi-fi tone.
Sold for $27000USD. I saw an ad in guitar player which read at the top of the page "The Sound Remains The Same", and had a side by side of this stack and the new acoustic bass rig. It claimed that the new one had "3 times the power, at 3% of the price" (of JPJ's).
That is too cool. I had the exact same rig, but sadly mine never said Led Zeppelin on it. But it had tons of balls. Did yours come with the sticker on the back next to the jack that says.."WARNING THIS CABINET IS 2 OHMS!! STANDING TOO CLOSE WILL CAUSE PERMANENT HEARING LOSS!! It is a red and white sticker that each cab came from the factory with. And ACOUSTIC MEANT EVERY WORD! :-)
hold on to your socks fellas... the real deal 360-361 cab is soon to be released on the market; revamped by the original circuit designer russ; made in usa!! not overseas. there will also be a reduced size "mini me" version with a 15" instead of 18". within a year or so ampeg, eden, mesa, etc etc will just have to take a back seat to the real deal. after all they were all inspired by russ's designs to begin with as he is the grand daddy of bass amplification.
I heard they went on fire and that's why he stopped using them?

I've used both Ampeg SVT and 370. I'll go 370 every time. F SVTs. Overrated.

They can stick the power up their ass.
VarykGerai 2 years ago
@mooghammondb3 While I do agree they sound similar, the 8x10 in the ad doesn't have the same sound as the old 1x18 folded horn cab.
iloverush123 1 year ago
@iloverush123 You're right about that. I own them both and I'm partial to the 371. Talk about a wall of sound.

thats odd casue its not the ohms that create the power its the wattage, aslong as you have the correct impedance between the cab and the head.

Isn't Acoustic owned by WalMart, I mean GC?
