Chris has a biblical rock voice and is amazing live, but for what ever reason i think he just doesn't quite nail COCHISE live like he does with other songs. It just sound very different from the studio version, which may sound stupid but he can sing other songs live like he does on the recorded tracks.

just before soundgardens "down on the upside" album chris had to go to europe for some huge operation on his throat. his voice has never been the same. but good on him for continuing his carrer. good luck to him and i still reckon he sounds awesome.

I love the mix of hard intense Rage w/ the soulfulness of Cornell's voice...its definitely true that he is better in the studio version. Years of screaming with Soundgarden has no doubt hurt his voice, that doesn't make him any less of an amazing vocalist.

Obviously the two videos of this song are different performances. Cornell "YAAAAAAAAAH" when the riff kicks in should be a dead giveaway. I think he sounds better on the other one because (1)this was the first song they ever played live so it could be nerves (he says himself in an interview he was scared he would fall off the roof) (2) hes more warmed up by the second time and (3) tv mixes are always sometimes bad.

I remember watching this when it aired and feeling sad for Chris and the way his voice sounded. Other 'videos' proved this too, the concert in Cuba was TERRIBLE! But, I just saw him in late May on his solo tour (about one week in) and he SLAYED! I was stunned! Hadn't heard him sound sooo good since back in '92 when Soundgarden toured for Bad Motor Finger.
