my cat does something similar! he always scratches the side for like 30 minutes and randomly comes back to do it throughout the day when he's not doing his buisness! very annoying... i'm starting to wonder if he's using it as a scratch pad, and catnip doesn't work on his scratch post to lure him to it...if anyone knows any tips on how to fix this please let me know. thanks!
arggh mine does the same. I heard that it's a sign of litter aversion so now I'm gonna try another type of litter. I used to have crystal ones. Now I'll try regular clumping litter.
@alelogger that's my opinion as well... between the two cats we have, the one that constantly cleans itself is the one that scratches the side of box. The other one will cover it up after she leaves... so maybe she's smarter than we all think.
All three of my cats do this. I got them all at different times, from different people, and all of them do this. It's sooo annoying, especially at night. They stay in there for about ten minutes just scratching the sides of the box, no matter what litter I use. What should I do? HELP.
@Chast0r hello there, my cat does the same thing... scratching the side of the box... please let me know if you have found a way of correcting this behaviour
Hahaha my cat does the same thing! After using her litter box, she stays in there for a few minutes just scratching at the sides of the box before getting out. Very weird lol
Your cat wants to cover its business without touching the litter. Is your litter kept clean? The litter may also leave a bad taste on your cat's paws.
ACtually the scratching is also a territorial behavior. Cats have scent glands in the paw pads and when they "bury" things they are marking with their scent. This cat is marking off his or her territory for potential other cats.
Cats around completely tame yet. Dogs have been domesticated for years, but we only started keeping cats since the egyptian years. Some now have an incompletely adapted reflex of scooping litter. They just scoop anywhere, trying to cover their stuff from a more comfortable angle for them. I don't know if I explained that rightly.

Does anybody know how to fix this??? My cat does it all the time, and its seriously the most annoying thing in the world! Im ready to put her down because of it, because whenever she does it it is sooo loud! she also scratches the rug in the bathroom and pees and shits on it! I am at my wits end with this crap!
You ask how can you fix this on your video. I am selling the Litter Robot here in Canada, and really there is no problem with them as the cat is inside the globe and it is cleaned by itself after the cat leaves. Cats are behavioural and putting a canopy over it will make her stop walking around the exterior and the ledge, forcing her to scratch inside under the dome (where the litter is located). See my video "Litter Robot setup and use"
