I have an important question. What pedal would be better for music like Motley Crue, Poison, Winger, and Ozzy. You Dirty Rat, Rat 1, Rat 2, or '78 badass? Im playing through an old "Music Man 410." Please help.
Hey TTK nice review, how does this compare to the modern RAT 2's? I own one but it can get sort of harsh. Do you think this is worth the $200? Thanks!
Can you do a comparison to the Proco Rat 2 verse the white face...RaT makes a bunch of pedals but they make this one in two versions...The white face is pricey compared to the Proc RaT 2...
man I appreciate all your reviews they are very incisive and thorough from your videos I got to hear what a epiphone valve junior head sounded like and I just got one thanks man.
Thanx TTL for all the demos yr putting out. Not trying to be funny, but, DANGG, all that gear. Are you like, a lawyer or what? A neurosurgeon? I'm just givin u a hard time LOL. You rock, keep it up!
It is obvious that you love making these video's. Right on Tone King. I have this pedal and it was worth every penny. You do a great job showing the flexibility of this pedal. Keep up the awesome work. I am a subscriber from here on out...... Rock on!
Jeeze I can't believe this pedal is listed at $299. I paid $40.00 for my RAT back in 1984. I still have it in dead mint condition with the retail box, manual and the sales receipt from Guitar Center. Good thing I held on to all my musical gear from the early days. I just realized I have a gold mine with all the music junk I have acquired starting in 1978, the year I started playing guitar.
@gmlasam I thought you made a mistake with the price till I looked it up. Good thing I kept my '87. Not looking so nice lookin like yours since I scraped off the purple glitter I put on it in early 90's three years ago and all three knobs have been replaced over the years with random ones but still kicking and used regularly.
thanks for the review!!! i'm sold on this reissue now. seems as flexible as the originals and the "vintage" Rats... it also sounds as rich as the originals.
i play guitar for 6 years for all u guy's who have complaince about TTK go back to first grade and learn how to respect some1 that nice like TTK ur just out of ur minds u know how smart and talanted musical he is ? GUITAR is made for people who enjoy "ANY" style any riff any note any any any sound.and new sound toys are just keeping us alive so please cut ur nails before u type anythink bad on TTK long live TTK btw i just got my proco whiteface 85 HIT THE MUSIC
Wish i didn't sell mine, 9 o'clock would be the furtherest I could dial in for distortion, above that just too much, thought it most be to accommodate single coil players, though, I didn't have that much access to noise gates or really did not know at the time since I had been playing electric guitar for 1 year. I don't remember if I had the 85 or 86 for certain, but, they were great days never the less, might be interesting to get it again all though it would be far in the future, being $199.
Didn't like so much... The palm mute is too wet but at the same time it's too clear (I can hear the difference between down and up). I think it's not a good combination... Mean, 4 me a dry palm mute+clear sound is good for some palm mutes, but what is good for metal is wet distortion without clearness.
Guess he should also have tried the pedal with low distortion.
While the Rat is good stuff, you can do even better with the BYOC clone called the "Mouse" for under $100. The BYOC mouse kit has a 6-way clipping rotary switch that makes it much more versatile, and yes, with a real LM308 chip, it sounds even better than the original Rat.
Google "buildyourownclone". No, I'm not an employee, just a seeker of mojo tone like the rest of you guys.
I had several of the original Rats (they were only $65 back then). I hated the thing. I tried like hell to get it to sound good. I found then a few months ago in the original cardboard boxes. A certain IC number is sought after, mine had it. Some guy in Japan paid me a fortune for all 3. The day before I shipped it, I tried again & it still sucked. A Boss MT2 is a much better sounding pedal .
Very good review. I've commented about too much distortion before and this review was great. You went through all the useable gain and EQ settings and you had some good tone. Keep it up!
Nice demo (again ;) )! I really liked less gain more volume sound. Would be nice to hear this pedal with heavier strings or/ and guitar with more beef in tone.
haha ... I am. Considering there is no neck pickup, I don't feel like I need one. With the right amp, pedal, etc ... it really seems to clean up nicely. I'm digging it :-)
good vid tk im diggin the pedal. still love that amp bro excuse my shameless plug but a very good review thanks for the review ive been interested in this pedal for a while
Wow crazy little box! TK we agree on the tone brother... your settings at 60% all 3 sounds just great!. Low end and mids cut through. Super harmonic too! Cheers
awesome! the RAT is a totally CLASSIC pedal. I use it all the time in my POD X3. Metallica's first album was a RAT into a Marshall(James's tone - Kirk played the Tube Screamer).
Yeah, TK, that is the pedal. I've got a Rat going back to the mid-80s and it is still going strong and my go to distortion stompbox. Love it, respect the Rat!
post videos more video about better artist such as the mars volta's omar rodriguez lopez or the fall of troys thomas erak instead of that other guy charles benson. sorry i had to say it
Sounds great, but doesn't come cheap...

@akaboo69 How many guitarists does it take to play a song? Seven: One to play, and six to say that they could play better.

It's a distortion pedal. Clearly not a pre amp or "tone machine". TTK is pretty crap.
