just a little chess nuance - if under check, you have to use a discovered check to deliver a check while blocking the piece threatening the king if two moves are check back to back, which is impossible by the positioning of the black pieces. (which means white is actually losing)

check is not that significant in chess, the first time to deliver check in chess should be within ones first few games since the goal of the game is to deliver fatal check (mate), they are very frequent in chess.

I know I'm going to get shit for pointing this out, but at 2:53, right after fresh says check a second time, samuel moves his rook and says "check" mate in 6 wanna suffer through it? ,, if you look at the board, samuel is NOT in check, and if he would have been, he would have had to move out of check first before he moved that rook to check fresh.

Damn...the 'horse' was Chucky. I just thought about it. :/ If you really pay close attention to Samuel's words, you'll get what I mean. its almost like...a deep, strategical (yet also tragic) look into the future of whats to come in this movie. Beautifully written indeed.

I just figured out an interpretation for this scene... Sam Jackson wasn't talking about his sister as being the Queen... Chess was all a Metaphor for his 2 friends who just died... his friend who could ball hard was the crazy horse jumping all over the place... the queen was the girl he liked who also died... the lesson is that it sucks to lose the ones you care about... loved this movie since I was a kid...

This is my favorite scene of the film. I'm very glad that I saw this film, this is a cult classic. I like how chess is teaching him the basic principles of critical thinking. Samuel L. Jackson is one of the best actors of all time. I would be scared if he was my Dad. LOL
