Dont see many of the black ones in my area. I also have a autistic 6 year old i have been thinking about taking on a squirrel/rabbit hunt with me. How did he react to the noise? Thats the one thing holding me back with my son sometimes he can extra be extra sensitive to loud noises. I swear though that boy hears everything so could come in handy trying to track the little buggers down.

They may be illegal to hunt where you live but as he said, not in Michigan, and I am from Ohio, you can hunt gray, black, red, and fox. @sweetptooter Amen to that! It is annoying when people get upset about killing game for food. Unless you are a vegetarian, you are an animal eater. And store bought meat usually comes from large corporate farms that have destroyed small farmers, they also make the animals live in terrible conditions. I would much rather eat an animal that enjoyed the freedom of the wilderness before it was harvested. That is true organic food! Also, great teaching him not to take what he won't eat!

@gedupawadat Some people eat them in stew - with the ones Gregory harvested this year, my husband cooked them in a skillet like chicken wings. They are very tasty actually, not game"y" or tough. Thank you for your kind words; I've been reading some of what people are writing. I keep telling myself that I'm not going to read it anymore. But he is so proud of him self - and the fact that my 6 (now 9) year old could (if he had to) hunt for food to survive - well - it make this momma very proud!

@Me497 The vast majority of hunters abide by the laws set forth by each state's department of natural resources. They may be illegal to hunt where you live but as he said, not in Michigan, and I am from Ohio, you can hunt gray, black, red, and fox. Way to be rude and obnoxious when you don't know what you are talking about :)
