Amy Tan is not only the best writer ever, she is also very funny! I really enjoy reading her books(sometimes more then once) I hope there will be many more!!!
anyone who is interested in writing children's books may also find the book "Writing Children's Books for Dummies" useful. it gives advice on how to brainstorm great ideas, rhyme & use humor, polish & edit words, find a great agent etc

Why are ethnic memoirs given credit for being fiction? The cross culture assimilation journal masquerading as fiction is killing off creative writing and Amy Tan is a perfect example. "I'm not white and this is my story. Publish it, praise it and give awards to it or you're a racist." The list of ethnic autobiographies as so called 'fiction' is endless and it's the same boring, narcissistic 'story' every time. Put these odes to being not white in the memoir section. Leave it out of fiction.

I think you're confusing Maxine Hong Kingston (Woman Warrior, a memoir) and Amy Tan (Joy Luck Club, a novel).
Also, I think your anger seems totally unrelated to what Ms. Tan talks about. Have you read any of her writing?
