  • WOuld this work well for an audition song if I'm doing another sondheim play?(specifically "Into the woods") I was looking into playing one of the princes in that production. any tips?

  • @MadFrananfriends I know right I sang a solo for somehing called DEP and he helped alot I coundnt have done it with out him:)

  • i have to sing this song for my play

  • just perfectly put together

  • Kieth is really really great in person

  • @Strawwbberry I know you can't always tell with actors, but that really comes across with his performance. Weirdly though, I just see him and think of Jeremy Paxman.

  • This never fails to make me cry. Why did Sondheim have to be such a bloody genius?

  • I think I enjoy Colbert's singing of the song in the Ny philharmonic version of the show

  • just been given the part of Harry for my Uni's production, and as much as I wanted Bobby, I absolutely cannot wait to sing this beautiful song...

I guess that makes me Sorry-Grateful, that or regretful-happy...

  • @TheNickKench Work with it. I wanted the part of Peter in Diary of Anne Frank, but I landed Mr. Dussel. It turned out to be a far better match.

One staple of acting. A lot of famous actors we know about today didn't get the part they originally auditioned for.

  • @NateSean interesting side note, the guy given the part of Bobby ended up dropping out and I've been given the part :S but thank you for the encouragement!

  • @TheNickKench Glad to hear it. Hopefully we get to see your production.

  • @TheNickKench

Did you have your production yet?

  • One of the most beautifully simple, profound, honest songs ever written about marriage.

And a great production to boot.

  • i would so want this to be played at my wedding.

  • @IndeeRockFan if you want your marriage to fail, sure :)

  • Love this song, and the entire music. It's a masterpiece imo.

  • Doyle does not do the instrument things with all of his productions. I saw Sondheim's "Road Show" (formerly "Bounce" at the Public Theatre last year. Not a great show and I think Doyle's other shtick is getting old. As is the instrument thing. It worked great in Sweeney Todd and, so I hear, in Company. But I hope he finds something else!

  • @spn1007

I don't think the actors playing instruments is just a "shtick", as if it's just some gimmick. It's a different way of performing a musical.

  • I love how he says "And scared she'll stay."

  • i worked with keith this summer! i love his voice he is a great teacher.

  • I'm singing this at a choir concert in October. It's a fun one.

  • Thanks PBS!

  • Wow how come they sing and play instruments?

  • John Doyle does that with all of his productions, do my knowledge. I get the impression he believes that it adds more expression to the songs.

  • cause its awesome

  • See my explanation on Part 1,4; I think that explains it.

  • Привет из летней школы ;)

  • Just fyi...Michael Mayer Spring Awakening won the Tony for best direction of a musical...Doyle had won previously for Sweeney Todd.

  • Keith is amazing. I've met and worked with him and I can't believe how phenomenal he is.

  • I love that they have sarah playing the flute with him.

  • Thanks for one of my favorite songs done by amazing pros.

  • thankyou for sharing this pure magical music.
