i surf at hollister ranch. Mavericks is the WORST place to surf at. Jaws is least scaryer than Mavericks. Mavericks has so much rocks and the water is So cold. that's my opinion

I surfed Mavericks as a teenager until I wiped out on a narly 25 footer. I should never have tried to catch that monster. Windnsea in LaJolla is more my speed today.

@LtakeOanotherVlookE - not true. I was surfing this spot in 1977. Only about 5 guys a day showed up then, but it was well known.

@LtakeOanotherVlookE - I think that is just a legend. there was literally no surfing in northern Ca until like 1950. Surfing went mainstream in the early 1960's.

Hey youngin its not an age u have to be its how many sessions you have there before ur good to go. Work ur way up the coast hit all the spots that get bigger and bigger. Than go to hawaii, then u might be able to catch one at Mavs. I'm putting it in very easy in words, but its a lot harder than it looks. Remember theres only a handful of guys that do this from california and the rest are seasoned vets from around the globe. Work on holding ur breath and staying calm underwater on wipeouts. W
