How about setting it in the time where Kyle Reese goes back in time but also John capture and reprograms a T-800 (Uncle Bob) sends it back in time then Kate gives birth to their daughter or son (your choice) then John Connor later is killed by a T-850 that's when Kate becomes the leader and reprograms the T-850 sends it back in time then we see the child full grown and reprogramming a T-900 to fight Skynet
