Thanks for the comments guys. No need to put drainage holes in the gutters. A sheet of plastic certainly helps to keep moisture in. I do this in sunny weather. just remember to check your seedlings and whip it off once they come up.
They're a much better bet than peat pots too. Far more portable. Peat pots tend to collapse. And gutters will last for decades!

like the gutter idea think it will work a lot better than conventional planting. save money on the peat pots.
