Best concert by one of the best bands of all time in the best venue ever...I just can't get over Bono skipping like a school-girl through the whole thing...pretty much ruins it for me. I can excuse the black Levis and the Super-Mullet, but good GOD...the para-military douce skipping dance? That is a little too much---even for the 80's.
No one's probably gonna read this, but I’ll say it anyway cuz I feel at least 1 person will. I'm a young designer and graffiti artist, I know there's a million out there but I feel like my art has a unique individual style.
If you just take a min and give me a chance I'll make you a believer. I would love nothing more than to have a loyal following on youtube. If anyone who reads this could press the "THUMBS UP" others will see it. Just a simple button push will make a huge difference.
@TheBeautifulStream Yeah it was like hypothermia cold..which many of us in the crowd were staving off by pressing in to the stage..it was glorious madness..and for a show that almost was cancelled due to rain it turned out pretty good I'd say..Best Red Rocks concert ever.
This song was cut in the original Red Rocks release. I always wondered why Bono appeared to change his shirt after the 1st song. Didn't give credit to writer of the Twist. No such problem on new video release.
And they were all between 20-24 years old. I thought I'd never hear this clip again. Thanks for posting. Once had it on tape when my Walkman filled up with shampoo from travel and ruined the tape! It's been 22 years since then...
Wow...
Bono did have some love handles by today's standards though. But love it!
I know someone who was at this concert. He said it was almost rained out but they ended up playing. Then the next day they played in a nearby arena. This was one of the best musical performances of all time.
LOVE IT. Back when their music was rockin' hard, tight as fuck, not overblown (like later years), and Bono's vocals were clear and powerful. To me, this was their peak period with respect to energetic, pure rock 'n' roll.

I saw U2 in Perth, Western Australia, in 1983.
I was 13. The band ripped the 8000-seat Perth Entertainment Centre apart. I am now 40. I have never forgotten this, no matter how enormously these tax dodging crunts suck today.
Adam Clayton is luckier than Ringo! He should get on his knees and thank God every day. But he has become a pretty good player and he is the coolest one of them.
Watch Edge from 2:03 to 2:11 , He was able to pull that off with only a deluxe memoryman ! Thats impressive to create that type of sound! Try that on guitar!
if they eve built that Time Machine this is one of the concerts that I would loved to have been part and also the cure live in orange would have made my life!!!
"...Edge...shut up for a second!"... I love that! They cut this out of the DVD-release, couse of "Let´s twist again", but honestly, that is rock´n roll... i can´t stop to dance.... maybe, this is my last chance... i love it!
KliUretzschmar , I might be wrong but when I heard this the first time my impression is that Bono said," Edge,..chill for a second" If so maybe it would seem a little more courteous. I still like that he isn't afraid to change things up.
hope I do not disappoint you, but this little "improv" seems to be a common thing on that tour. i have a tapefrom the boston show two days later than this very show, and they´ve done the same thing. even two years later, at the "fire..."-shows, when they played it live, bono interruppted edge.. anyway, it´s rock´nroll at it´s best. still!
Although, I'll admit, it does sound like Bono says "chill," I doubt very much that he used that word in that context in 1983. Nobody said "Dude, chill" in the early 80's.
Well, now I must disagree, as I believe that Bono clearly says " Edge, chill for a second!" as he looks right at him, wanting to spend some time with the audience. Remember despite all the Bono flash the guy is a pretty damn good lyricist.
what the hell is he talking about at the end....he can't remember the words to his song? another song? even the audience is confused. bono is so cute.
This is fantastic!! Also check out performances of Twilight, An Cat Dubh, Into the heart and Out of Control 'live' at Red Rocks 83. Why were'nt these songs included on the DVD release of Under a Blood Red Sky???
Nothing can compare to the passion of youth!! They are youthful here, now they are older, and it makes a difference. Some things just last for a short while, as in youth!!
They still are an awesome band!! One of the best!! But for not having the energy now, they were young then, now they`re a little older you have to cut them some slack don`t ya think?
