@proteincheese yeah it's a max. 2x BW is a good goal, but it's not like you can't jump high til you get there. I've never been higher than 1.65 x BW and I peaked at 44 inches
Don't you think front squats might be even better than this version of the back squat? With front squats you have no choice but to keep your torso upright or else you'll drop the weight
@swoleneck front squats are too upright and too quad dominant. I'm going for the balance between that and the powerlifting style. also most people can't front squat enough to actually test their leg strength, because it's too hard to support the weight up front
@ivanyhtang it took me a little over a month and a half to get 7 inches, as for the weight to begin with, thats all on you, I suggest buying the program, its worth it, it will tell u everything u need to know!
also, i did notice valgus collapse on ur right leg. i have a simliar situation cuz my right glute being less than my left glute, but its very subtle. My theory is its because i do a lot more one leg jumping off my left leg and over time this creates a neural imbalance.
i think that structure can influence which type of squat you are going to be most comfortable with. If youre taller and have long femurs, youre going to sit back a lot more and have a torso closer to parallel with the floor. I have noticed a lot of hype, especially from mike boyle about front squats. I can't really do them well because of wrist flexibility and i get pain as it is from squatting in my wrist sometimes. I would like to see a jumptrainee vid on front squats cuz your tips are great.
@myjumpmanual I think 1/4 squats have their place in training. I've used them to focus on tendon strength as well as to strengthen the core muscles by having a super heavy weight on your back. Generally speaking though, for developing muscular strength in your legs you need more range of motion.
@yajstylez there is nothing dangerous about going up fast. You could make arguments against going down fast, which is why I never recommend that in the video.
@justinkingwilliams24 awesome! how long did it take you to train to increase 7 inches? i'm on the shorter side and want to jump much higher for volleyball! how much weight might you suggest to begin?
I heard target weight to have a good vertical jump is about 2x your body weight when you squat. Is that true? and if so, is that for max?

is it ok if my feet are slightly wider than shoulder width
ilikata 2 months ago
@ilikata like it says in the video, variation is fine. use a stance that's comfortable and keeps your weight back and your torso above 45 degrees

hey my back always hurts when i do squats, even with no weight, what should i do about it?
Mr360windmill 3 months ago
@Mr360windmill flexibility is probably a big issue so start stretching a lot. also look up the glute bridge exercise and start doing that

@jumptrainee1 oh ok thanks :)

Great vid! Thanks for sharing.
Wondering what your thoughts are on 1/4 squats to help with vertical jump? Or do you think you should always go to parallel?

Isn't doing the squats fast not good for the knees/leg? As in do the normal (slow) squats for strength and then do polymetrics for the job...?
That sounds safer. Unless the weight of doing the squat is the usual 'nothing' for them.
