Beautiful, insightful commentary by Anthony Braxton on Woody Shaw to Woody's son. It's rare to hear this type of inside information outside of the jazz magazines, and even in their case, you don't get this much of it. Thank you so much for this video, mosaicrecords.
Now this is a much better performance and discussion. You should develop a more acute ear and discretion to music. You would enjoy this much more. instead rubber stamping anything the avant garde does as if you are some type of brainless gnome travellling along an empty highway with a poser like Frisell. Avant fans should drop fascistic attitudes and become more open and less offended to differing ideas. You will really enjoy more and better.
Totally excellent. Glad this was documented before this historical data like others gets marginilized or omitted. One thing I look at is how the depth of an individual 's soul /knowledge of not only music ends up in original musical expression. If the world knew what many of these great true innovators knew! The hidden secrets from the masses!
This is a really wonderful interview....and I'm so grateful that someone took the time to set it up and record this with A.B. I see a lineage - Davis to Woody to...Tom Harrell. What I get from this interview is how much Brax is aware of the gravity that Woody represents for the music, how important that is, and how understated it still remains. But I think that may change.
What a wonderful insight to one of my musical heros. Thanks for sharing.

And I love the images of Woody in Tai Chi forms. That is so beautiful for me.
And when Braxton tells us that there are influences still unknown from him, that is wonderful.
Makes me feel good. Thank you for all of your posts, Sir.
