@nphanlon1973 1st a helmet makes a great POV camera mount. 2nd catcing even a small bird or other object in the face at 120mph can freaking KILL you, at the very least blind you or even knock you unconsious. Would kinda suck to bounce off a cliff at 120mph or fail to open your chute after a great proximity flight because of this. FYI, POV = Point of View.

This is wingsuit proximity base which is at the top of a fairly long progression. Start with regular skydiving, once you have 200 jumps at the bare minimum you can be trained to use a wingsuit from an aircraft opening at legal skydiving heights. It will then take you a good few hundred wingsuit skydives to be proficient. Then take up regular base jumping (no wingsuit) once your an expert base jumper and wingsuit skydiver you can mix the two and gradualy move closer to the cliffs (proximity).

thanks dude... yeah i really am commited to doing this someday. i am going skydiving this summer hopefully several times. but my brother has the cost handled. how much is it roughly every ski dive. does it vary. and how much is a base jump. do you hike to the top of wherever. or helicopter/ plane to the top. and is it 200/ 500 jumps to just skydive with a wingsuit! or is that just base jump. because you would think it wouldnt take that many to just use a wingsuit skidiving!? and how much $

I'm not doing this yet - I'm striving to. Indeed, very expensive hobby.

You need to learn to skydive via either a 'static line' of 'AFF' Course.

Either get to 200 jumps in 18 months or 500 in any time period to get coached on wingsuiting.

Have 200 skydives to learn BASE (jump numbers vary lots but you'd be stupid to not be your own judge on if you're ready or not). Master both & then find a WS Base coach. Tons of details to learn on the way too, that is extremely abbreviated.

@jgorerowe Helments protect your head, period. Obviously hitting a solid object at terminal velocity will be instantly fatal regardless of your head gear but the majority of injuries in skydiving/base jumping (with or without a wingsuit) are not terminal impacts, but parachute landing issues.

@xM1911x Not really man, having no helmet on with a shaved head would probably be more "aerodynamic" than a helmet. It's for protection against any rocks, branches, or other things they might be unfortunate enough to run into. That and mid-air collisions with other skydivers and for rough landings. It's important base jumpers have a good helmet; you can recover from a broken arm... not so much a broken head.
