I remember getting this for Christmas and thinking it was the wrong cart in the box. I ended up playing it a ton anyways cause I didn't have much else to play, but not what I was expecting.
Almost all the Coleco cartridges on the 2600 were total garbage, and it stands to reason when they had their own console. Why waste time making a good 2600 port when you want to show your own off.
Wow could they have made this game any worse? I had this for colecovision and always wondered what the 2600 version would look like...thanks for sharing
I always liked this version of Zaxxon. I thought at the time that the behind-the-back perspective made it easier to see where everything was than the three-quarters diagonal perspective of the arcade game and most other ports.
Why wouldn't it? The Atari 2600 is an amazing system and has alot more power and capability than people think. I love this game on the 2600. Colecovision was good but i'd rather play this game on the 2600.
I didn't know there was a 2600 version of Zaxxon either. Honestly, if it didn't say Zaxxon at the start I would've thought it was some crazy River Raid rip-off. Thanks for uploading!
I hated playing this game. I only got past the 1st level a few times because I could never judge the distance of the gap in the walls with only 2d effects. Strange game this was.
Wow, you gotta admit even though it was the early 80's, it took balls to release some of these arcade games on the 2600 with graphics like this. I remember a big thing with promotion of these games back then was "save your quarters, now you can play arcade games at home'...yeah right LOL.
Its a great port my friend. Atari wasn't the most powerful system just as the Nintendo Wii isnt the most powerful system but the 2600 just like the Wii is the funnest system in my opinion.
ahh, the days of buying a 2600 game. They were rather expensive, I believe around $20 and that was alot of snap for the early 80s. I remember buying one called "Haunted House" that had a great story line. It sucked so bad. "Adventure", one of their first was one of their best. This video shows a disgraceful ripoff of a timeless arcade classic from 1981, "Zaxxon". It is amazing the time we live in now. Games are photorealistic with 3d realms, etc. We still dont have floating cars yet.
I did'nt know they made a Zaxxon for Atari 2600. The one for Coleco Vision sucks ass because of the controls. The up and down controls on that version are switched (press up for down and vice versa) and getting use to it is out of the question because the game is progressing and you can't run into anything either.
Pushing the Control Stick away from you to make your fighter moving down, and pulling the Control Stick toward you to make your fighter moving up... it's a common flight simulator control configuration.
All the Zaxxon versions I know, including this one for the Atari 2600, use this configuration.

all in all the Coleco version was better. But the designers did a great job with what they had to work with on the atari.

coleco version is a direct port while this actually looks impressive for the 2600, technically (not commenting the gameplay itself)

this zaxxon was okay, but i liked the coleco version better.

Are you kidding me? Zaxxon's graphics kicked ass! It's 3D!

I never played zaxxon on the 2600, this sucks, I had it on the TRS-80 Model 4, which amazingly is much better than the 2600 version.

its amazing that this runs on the 2600

yeah I believe it was a good console in its time, but most games look pretty simple so I'm quite impressed with these pseudo 3d graphics here

battlezone was a pretty impressive game too

Wow. This already has 3d graphics. Lol.

Considering the graphics of the OTHER Atari 2600 games, this is quite decent. It's still a crappy Zaxxon port, however.
