The documentary is (as I'm sure it's makers know) a cheap shot. They very successfully found the nutters (it's not hard to do in any town) and hammed up the wack music. Film the few noodles out of context without a care for the reality. Ignore anything that might actually give the place its value and the people their identity. Some of these people ought to be in institutions, for sure, but that has nothing to do with the place.

But who will care.

What a shame youve lost your gates on the level crossing-its the end of an Era, and Frinton will move unhappily into the 21st Century. There was no need for them to be replaced with expensive new ones. The only reason was the Rail companies insurance cost and wages cost for staff...........

as a Frinton resident and a close relation to a network rail area manager, i can tell you that neither are true, the signalling systems on the east coast line are some 60 years old and were way overdue for upgrade, all manned crossings were replaced with automatic barriers as part of the signalling upgrage process to improve safety. Regretably yes people have lost there jobs, but this is nothing new as constantly improving technology replaces old and dated methods. This was a done deal 10yrs ago

This is a masterpiece as far as documentaries goes. I'm sure that there is some exaggeration as far as the Edwardian caricatures of the people. I stayed in a place called Hearn Bay and it's an exact carbon copy of Frinto On the Sea. It was a depressing holiday town completely devoid of personality. Five Stars to the BEEB for making this jem.

I visited Frinton for the first time today. It is utterly recognisable from this film, but it's still a nasty piece of film making. They've just found the same sort of unlucky in life people who exist everywhere, put them under a camera and poked them with a stick for half an hour. Tawdry stuff.
