i could be way off base here, but it seems to me like "beneath the rose" may mean in the grave, and the rest of the video seems like it follows in that vein - the snails (decomposers) and the person he may be leaving behind...? he seems ill in the breathless profile.

I believe the snails mean the slowness with which time goes by when you miss someone you love... They are everywhere, implying the essence of the loved one is still there... Slowly moving, everlasting, never going away... I love this song and the video makes it that much more perfect.
