Lazenby admits being difficult but as far as I understood it, the garlic story came from a comment that RIGG made to Lazenby in the commissary that was picked up by a journalist.
He was not dropped by the producers. Apparently Lazenby was offered a 14 year contract to make 12 films, 7 of which were as 007 worth a massive $35million!!!
What's poor old George doing now?
Well, he's a very wealthy man after some shrewd real estate moves.
I don't accept a lot of what Rigg is saying here. OHMSS is one of my favourite Bond films but it can not be regarded as one of the most successful. Her claim that she was cast as a classical actress opposite an inexperienced actor to balance things up doesn't make much sense to me. I think it would have the opposite effect.
I've always felt Tracy was the first Bond girl that was more than a mere 2 dimensional character and that is why she was cast.
This interview is null and void. George has went on record and said he regrets leaving it and that he was arrogant and young. So I'm sure we fans can forgive him. He gave us a memorable movie.

What Diana Rigg is saying about George Lazenby is true. He was difficult to work with and that fact was confirmed by a number of people who worked on the film including director Peter Hunt and producer Albert R Broccoli.....
She isn't trashing him. She does say was a good actor and handsome but he did have a huge ego about him (which he also admitted himself in later interviews). She nails it when she said that he was the architype of his downfall when he made bad choices regarding his career.
Not only was George Lazenby asked to continue as Bond in 'Diamonds are Forever' he signed a letter of intent to do so. Then Lazenby's agent announced he wouldn't do it (without consulting him). This is a rather nasty, self-serving interview - and I say that having admired Diana Rigg since her Emma Peel days.
I don't know why people have to bitch so much. Lazenby was young. He admits he was arrogant and regrets leaving the role. Why still have the hump about this?

This is great. I have never seen this. It's a shame Lazenby could never put his ego in check. I would have loved to see him do more Bonds. O.H.M.S.S. is a terriffic film.

@croonlover Not a bitch, she just tells it like it is. Not sure I agree with her saying that it's the most successful bond film, but w/e.

I agree. Lazenby could have been great, maybe even better than Connery whose best films IMHO were his first two.

@jayce79 Indeed, it's such a human film in comparison to those before it and after it.

They offered Lazenby a 7 movie deal so she clearly got the wrong impression on the set.
