At that time Overdose was one if not the best in the world. His team demanded to much of him. 5 starts 2yo, 6 starts + L'Abbeye 3yo incl. long travels to the race courses is too much for a horse. He had already problems with his foot when winning his 1st Grade race. They should habe given him time then - instead they headed for l'Abbeye through Baden-Baden and sent him to Rome afterwards. One start 4yo and the horse was finished. The 5yo and 6yo Overdose is no wonder horse anymore.
It's a shame this win didn't count for Overdose. Because other than the field in Germany where he was well beaten by the likes of Amico Fritz and Guilt Edge Girl, it's the one field that Overdose actually faced legitimate G1 horses. His record is really placated on racing field's full of nobody's in the Romania and Germany, IMO. Anxious to see Overdose at Ascot in 2011. I think he'll be exposed in the King's Stand or Golden Jubilee as an average sprinter. JMO.
Refused 7 times, reared up about 4 times, threw soumillon off, all in all playing up for about 8 minutes, dozi is a horse not a machine, if usain bolt got punched and slapped before a race and didnt wanna race and was made to he probably wouldnt win either. He obviously wasnt right on the day and apart from this race and his first race after injury, hes has annihalated every race he has run in!! He is a star and will prove it when he wins the king stand stakes at ascot this year
A shame, but unfortunately this isn't the first time weirdness like this has gone off in French horse racing. Overdose really showed what he could do that day, but at least officially it never happened. Overdose was terrific in 2008, but with all the injuries, and the great popularity the horse has earned in Hungary, I think the handlers are now more afraid of losing than winning. At this point it would be a miracle if Overdose could return to this form.
Overdose ran 55 seconds (check it on Youtube replay). This is obviously a very quick track when dry, with the course record at 54.2, suggesting they run down hill for part of it. Marchand Dór ran the second fastest time ever for the race 54.4 That was after he returned from Hong Kong and was clearly outclassed by the Sacred Kingdom. Have a look at the re-run of the 2007 Hong Kong Sprint on Youtube (included Miss Andretti, King Strand Stakes winner). He is the best sprinter going around now
Overdose tied the course record at 54.2, not 55. Unfortunately, they called it a no-race because one gate did not open. They did not flash the no-race until 3 furlongs had been run. Total BS.
Overdose's 54.2 is well documented. Watch the Overdose vs Marchand D'Or video where the first race is superimposed over the other, clip for clip. You will see Overdose crosses the wire before Marchand...
I don't know where the 54.2 came from, but you can see for yourself, Geronimo, by looking at this youtube replay. Marchand D'or is obviously a class horse and has travelled widely to prove it, but he is not in the same class as Sacred Kingdom when that horse is in good shape. I would love to see Overdose tested against the best. He is clearly exceptional. But he cannot claim to be the world's best until he is tested. I that declaing this a no race was BS.
Overdose is currently the best in the world, no question about it. It doesn't matter, if those French were cheating or not, their horse is far behind Overdose. Hopefully at the next run everything will be fine, and Overdose can finally prove, that he is the fastest.
By the way, does anyone knows Kincsem? That was an another Hungarian horse - well, just one of our horses :)
Kincsem is not just one of the horses! She was unbeatable all in her life, in 54 races! Does anyone know another unbeatable horse? Unfortunately there wasn' youtube in that ages.
Overdose was the winner no question about that. How can anyone expect them to run again after finishing the distance!? Typical French mentality. Dirty cheating bastards.
well no not really. Overdose did not run against the full field. Marchand d'Or pulled up and so did some others, and of course Fleeting Spirit was left in the gates. All riders were told to stop their horses, but some didnt notice the flag, which is understandable. Overdose won first time, but the race HAD to be run again. People woulf complain that Fleeting Spirit wasnt given her chance if they hadnt. Its fair, but unfortunate for Overdose. You shouldnt create stereotypes when theres no need.
Faulty gates are part of the game. Unfortunate for that one horse but the rest of the field should finish the race normal. The horse declared a non starter, late scratching or something similar. Punters who put money on the horse get their money back and they shorten the odds for the rest of the field. That's how it is done fairly.
overdose run against nobody and just for him and when the guy with the flag stand on the right and 22 horses ran on the left side somebody could not see him and overdose was two seconds faster than Marchand'Or..
