im in the unique posistion of being a working musician who works for a major airline...i cant tell u how many times ive seen/tried to prevent this......my advice to ANY musician flying out with a quality instument is to invest in a top of the line flight case.....because most of these employees dont give a shit about your gear ,they're usually just passing through jobs and couldnt care less ,i know its an expensive item (flight case)but worth it

It's not just United, all those airline baggage handlers are scuzzy. I've had items -- not even that valuable -- stolen from my luggage on AA and Delta. This is nothing compared with the treatment passengers receive from TSA.

I have had problems with baggage as well, from being lost, mis-directed, and also damaged! Luckily I have mastered the art of flirting so when I fly with a musical instrument I get my way and carry it on... (I have my own tricks, but I can't disclose them here otherwise EVERYONE would start using them!) Anyways, it's a shame - waste of a good guitar! GO DAVE!

United Airlines broke my guitar also, about five years ago when I was traveling from Honolulu to Utah. It was my one year old Takamine and I when I talked with them about it they would not accept responsibility. When I took the guitar to a reputable guitar dealer in Salt Lake they said that the break was consistent with leaning the guitar against a wall and could never have happened in the hard case it was in. There was no damaged to the case and no splinters inside of the case! Great song!

Excellent. United damaged my Bourgeois guitar, and took absolutely no responsibility. They refused to let me put the guitar in overhead and threatened to call the cops on me when I balke at it.
All United will do is launch an ad campaign saying that there IS no problem, spend a pile of money on commercials on places that showed/reported on the video to keep them quiet, then wait until you are all distracted with NASCAR or football or hockey or the new TV season or something. At which time this will all go away.

I hate United Airlines! I have never brought my guitars onto an airplane, nor do I want to let people check them. I want to pay for an extra seat when I travel by air with my guitars.

He had it in 2 cases at the same time the first was a hard road case and the other was a foam cushion case. He has a detailed description on his site of the evens.

Acually you're the retard. A Taylor guitar in a Taylor case will fit in most overhead compartments. I know this because I have one. And should it not fit, you should gate-check it -- making it the last luggage onto the plane and the first one off -- essentially bypassing the idiots on the ground.

My travel case is aluminum shell that holds my guitar in another case, the thing is huge but it protects your guitar.

United Airlines broke my guitar also, about five years ago when I was traveling from Honolulu to Utah. It was my one year old Takamine and I when I talked with them about it they would not accept responsibility. When I took the guitar to a reputable guitar dealer in Salt Lake they said that the break was consistent with leaning the guitar against a wall and could never have happened in the hard case it was in. There was no damaged to the case and no splinters inside of the case! Great song!

All United will do is launch an ad campaign saying that there IS no problem, spend a pile of money on commercials on places that showed/reported on the video to keep them quiet, then wait until you are all distracted with NASCAR or football or hockey or the new TV season or something. At which time this will all go away.
The public has the attention span of a schnauzer and United will take full advantage of that fact.

my father , for years, would put the case in baggage and put the guitar in overhead. He would often get the case back banged up with the lock broken. this was before 9/11 when they now make a point of breaking the locks open. Fucking animals.

Believe me ifg you travel on orders a few times and have these jackasses lose your stuff and genuinely not give a rats ass you will refuse to use the scum too.
