Police Officers enforce Statutes, Codes, and By-Laws and it is not in their job description to risk there life for yours. That being said Police Officers are often seen as wearing 2 hats, one as Policy Enforcement Officers (Legal Entities), and the other being the Lawful man protecting the Peace.

My county just eliminated the county sheriff, to be replaced by a unified police department and I think this may be illegal. Let me know what you think.. Is there a move to eliminate county sheriffs in an effort to remove yet another protection of constitutional rights. This definitely needs discussion. It was just recently anounced with little publicity only approval by county commission., until its a done deal. Is it a state law regarding county sheriff jurisdiction? Please share info.
