Wow! Fantastic video, and I admire your anime version of Mr. J! Hehe, Jingle Jingle Jacket! Mr. J's song is my favorite Letter Person song. I mean, you listen to it once, and you've got to listen to it a couple more times at least.
I was waiting for this one! I love the "Cats" reference at the very beginning, and your drawing of Mr. J is superb. And now that I think about it, sometimes his eyes *do* look kinda scary...:) Keep up the good work!
Yes...particularly in the first picture we see of him (the puppet version). I always thought the black background pic of him was a Mistoffelees-type pose, too.
I wonder if Fat Albert or Fred Sanford ever saw him? OPA!
Too bad there aren't too many pics of the original inflatable Mr. J. The original one looked very much like the picture of him at 1:21.
That picture was the one on our black-background poster; we had a few of the original posters, but most were those redrawn ones from the 80s. (And thank goodness- the old Mr. J picture is pretty intimidating-looking...)
Hmmm. I never considered that one scary, in fact I considered it cool. When I first saw it, I thought he was in a rush to go somewhere, but later in life (after seeing CATS), and seeing him on the TV show, that's when I thought his pose was more Mistoffelees-styled, leaping through the air before he started in with the spins.
True. You've also got to keep in mind I find really weird things scary (like old PBS logos, for instance...) For some reason, it seems my mind just perceives things differently from many peoples'.
Those PBS logos are creepy. But then again, many things from the '70s were based on Surrealism, making them quite eerie, like a weird dream. The original drawings of the Letter People (with the black backgrounds) are very surreal. Wish I had a nice big poster of them.
GREAT SONG for a kids show!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. His eyes look somewhat scary, but its more "oh man that's too cute and it's creepy" scary and not "AHHH run away!" scary.
