Why are there so many people talking about who's the better joker? Both are great in their films, but wouldn't fit in the other one. I loved Batman (1989) as a kid, but I think The Dark Knight is a better film. Does that mean I hate Nicholson or Keaton? No.
The Joker is hilarious in this movie. "Wait til they get a load of me.." and then he starts making noise into the sky. "Ooop...OooOp.." before cracking up. It's like a comedy.
You want my opinion? I don't think you really can compare Jack Nicholson's Joker and Heath Ledger's Joker. They were 2 differrent Jokers. They were both great in my opinion.

@Kilox1000 Funny how 90% of the people who're praising Ledger are just fanboys who're going to praise any crap their idol stars in. Ledger= your average actor, neither great not terrible. TDK and emo-Joker will fade into obscurity as soon as someone else plays as the Joker.
The Dark Knight = The better movie, bigger budget, better characters, and all round great performances.
Batman (1989) = The better Batman movie, the more faithful comic book style yet dark take on the Batman mythos, with a stellar performance from Nicholson that captures the essence of The Joker from the comics.
Amazing, and I still laugh every time I see this scene. Jack Nicholson went to pretty far extremes to portray the capricious evil/funny joker. He put everything into this character, and it shows.
Jack is good as the Joker in traditional terms but not as good as Mark Hamil, Heath Ledger is hard to say since he kinda mixes all the incarnations of the Joker plus his own interpretation! GAH I CANT DECIDE!
@DarrenNicolaye3 Next to the part where he shots a guy to death as if he was at the carnival's shooting gallery. This part makes Jack see the humor side of it all. He's always smiling. Why so serious?
Jack has been playing the Joker his entire life... He's fucking awesome!
Everybody's like "But Heath Ledger's Joker is closer to the original comics!"... I mean... just because Burton was inspired by the Bronze Age of Batman doesn't mean that Jack wouldn't be able to be grimmer and more psychotic as the Golden Age's Joker!
Look at the last minutes of the Shining for example! He's fucking NUTS!
Heath Ledger's Joker was too stiff and awkward... Didn't feel like the Joker imo... just sayin'
What's freaky about this set-up is his whole body is now plaster white, not just the face and hands. Facial nerve damage aside, he was fucked the moment he went into the vat of acid. I want a scene where he emerges from the chemicals and staggers dripping...wherever he went before the surgeon. Because he's dry in the chair and now wearing multicolored Joker clothes compared to his normal outfit at Axis. Did he go back to his place and dare to look at himself in the cold light of his bathroom?
I think the reason why this scene still comes to mind whenever I think of the Joker is because of what Heath Ledger's Joker said in the Dark Knight: "Madness, is like gravity- All it takes is a little PUSH.." And I think this scene illustrates that marvelously.
Dont get me wrong, the dark knight is a great movie, but when I'm a toothless 90 year old bastard plagued by dementia, this will be the only joker scene I can remember. Epic Jack.
