  • Ledger's Joker is TOO MUCH psychotic and dark. Joker must be like Nicholson did him :)

  • Why are there so many people talking about who's the better joker? Both are great in their films, but wouldn't fit in the other one. I loved Batman (1989) as a kid, but I think The Dark Knight is a better film. Does that mean I hate Nicholson or Keaton? No.

  • This used to scare the shit outta me when I was a kid.

  • The Joker is hilarious in this movie. "Wait til they get a load of me.." and then he starts making noise into the sky. "Ooop...OooOp.." before cracking up. It's like a comedy.

  • Remember: there are two Jokers in every deck...

  • you see what I have to work with?

  • You want my opinion? I don't think you really can compare Jack Nicholson's Joker and Heath Ledger's Joker. They were 2 differrent Jokers. They were both great in my opinion.

  • I would say that breaking a mirror means seven years bad luck... but this is the Joker so what does it matter?

  • i remember being scared as a kid watching this scene

  • To this day i still dont get why he has no fingers

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 He has fingers. They're just wrapped in bandages.

  • So, bathing in toxic waste will turn you into a clown? I gotta try that.

  • I watch this movies 5879348703984 times and every time i see this scene i feel so bad for that poor doctor. :(

  • "Mirror. MIRROR!"

"You understand that the nerves that the nerves were completely severed, Mr. Napier!"

Love this film...so fucking demented. I enjoy the Nolan films, but it seems EVERYONE underrates the Burton films, especially the first one.

It's just so twisted and weird and manic, thanks in no small part to Nicholson's brilliant Joker.

  • Ledger's Joker is just an emo version of Ronald McDonald.

  • @Fantezism funny how 90% of the world disagrees with you and praises his performance. lol nicholsons joker was an actual joke

  • @Kilox1000 Funny how 90% of the people who're praising Ledger are just fanboys who're going to praise any crap their idol stars in. Ledger= your average actor, neither great not terrible. TDK and emo-Joker will fade into obscurity as soon as someone else plays as the Joker.

  • @Fantezism yeah do me a favor and lay off the shrooms.

  • @Fantezism Ledger died you ass. Have some fucking respect.

  • @HawksEye1983 How about respecting Nicholson and the people who aren't Ledger's fanboys ? Since when was respect reserved only for the dead ?

  • Joker should of killed this surgeon

  • Jack Nicholson is a genius!! Heath Ledger's Joker was the best but w/o Nicholson I dont think Ledger's Joker would have been as good.

  • Oh, and then the light bulb @ 1:11.

  • I think when he smashes the mirror @ 1:03 it sorta represents his sanity breaking.

  • Great scene, great laugh, but I'm pretty sure he's not wearing any Joker makeup. Cannot be unseen.

  • @angeltosome yea, take a closer look at 1:22 u can see his fore head...No Make-UP

  • last year I saw The Shining, The Bucket list, One flew over the cuckoo's nest and then Batman, and that's when I realised who my favourite actor was.

  • As awesome as Ledger's acting was I think laughing on cue is pretty damn impressive

  • WOW....

  • as a child, couldn't watch that scene : too scary for me

  • LISA NEEDS BRACES

  • @milkmanv1 DENTAL PLAN

  • I'm surprised he didn't kill him.

  • What a brilliant piece of ass YOU are faggot

  • God- what a brilliant piece of ass this movie was!

  • Jack's laugh sounds a lot like Hamill's on more than one occasion in this movie.

    It makes me smile :)

  • Who's gonna win?

    I call it a tie

  • The Dark Knight = The better movie, bigger budget, better characters, and all round great performances.

Batman (1989) = The better Batman movie, the more faithful comic book style yet dark take on the Batman mythos, with a stellar performance from Nicholson that captures the essence of The Joker from the comics.

  • HIHIIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIH

  • The laugh was perfect!

  • Probably one of the most scariest moments I ever seen

  • Well.... Not exactly happy.

  • penguin operating on joker , anyone else noticed? :D

  • The nerves were completely severed, Mr. Napier!

  • Amazing, and I still laugh every time I see this scene. Jack Nicholson went to pretty far extremes to portray the capricious evil/funny joker. He put everything into this character, and it shows.

  • @shahbaz1994

    Nothing like the comics?

What the fuck are you talking about?

  • (groans) (sobs) hee hee hee hee hee hee,,,,hahahahahahahaha,,,,,HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

  • Best film joker by far. Well done Jack Nicholson.

  • I love how they made up that "severed nerves" thing in order to make his mouth like in comics :D

  • This scene gives me goosebumps

  • till this day Idk wtf was sooo funny he just laughed and left the poor fella in the dark

  • Scene.hehe

  • What a great seen.

  • Jack is good as the Joker in traditional terms but not as good as Mark Hamil, Heath Ledger is hard to say since he kinda mixes all the incarnations of the Joker plus his own interpretation! GAH I CANT DECIDE!

  • This scene comes to my mind every morning when I watch into the mirror in the bathroom

  • hahahahahhahahah......HAHAHAHahahahahahaha................HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • @DarrenNicolaye3 Next to the part where he shots a guy to death as if he was at the carnival's shooting gallery. This part makes Jack see the humor side of it all. He's always smiling. Why so serious?

  • Jack has been playing the Joker his entire life... He's fucking awesome!

Everybody's like "But Heath Ledger's Joker is closer to the original comics!"... I mean... just because Burton was inspired by the Bronze Age of Batman doesn't mean that Jack wouldn't be able to be grimmer and more psychotic as the Golden Age's Joker!

Look at the last minutes of the Shining for example! He's fucking NUTS!

Heath Ledger's Joker was too stiff and awkward... Didn't feel like the Joker imo... just sayin'

  • and who say's nicholson's joker can't be scary? Did everyone forget this scene?

  • @177xxxx very good point!

  • O.O... hehe.. ehehe... HAHAHAHAHA!!! A HE HE HE HAHAHA!!! Man he's Joker laugh is so fuckin contagious XD

  • This movie is not ridiculous!! Burton's and Nolan's Batman are both awesome, only the stories and the style's are different.

  • I can always tell it's Jack Nicholson because of his eyebrows o.o

  • as my plastic surgeon always said: if you gotta go, go with a smile

  • What's freaky about this set-up is his whole body is now plaster white, not just the face and hands. Facial nerve damage aside, he was fucked the moment he went into the vat of acid. I want a scene where he emerges from the chemicals and staggers dripping...wherever he went before the surgeon. Because he's dry in the chair and now wearing multicolored Joker clothes compared to his normal outfit at Axis. Did he go back to his place and dare to look at himself in the cold light of his bathroom?

  • I actually laugh like that all the time. That's why my mom calls me "Joker 2" :'D

  • was this a movie?

  • I think the reason why this scene still comes to mind whenever I think of the Joker is because of what Heath Ledger's Joker said in the Dark Knight: "Madness, is like gravity- All it takes is a little PUSH.." And I think this scene illustrates that marvelously.

  • Jack Napier just had a bad day.

  • this doctor is very similar to Hugo Strange

  • Joker: And if ya wanna make the world a crazier place take a lot at yourself and make a change!

  • Is that Dr. Strange?

  • @Pivotman1 nah, just some random doctor having nothing important to do with the batman universe

  • This is the ultimate movie scene, but that plastic surgeon must be Jackie Stallone's.

  • Best laugh in cinematic history.

  • Dont get me wrong, the dark knight is a great movie, but when I'm a toothless 90 year old bastard plagued by dementia, this will be the only joker scene I can remember. Epic Jack.

  • Jack Nicholson as The Joker = The most brilliant and genius casting decision ever made! Heath Ledger was good but he's got nothing on Jack Nicholson, I mean Jack is the Joker!

  • @theaterattendee Couldn't have said it better myself my friend.

  • "You understand that the nerves were completely severed, Mr. Napier." One of the funniest scenes in the film.

  • I had a similar reaction when I got my hair cut last week.

  • Tim Burton needs to make another Batman movie. Chris Nolan's are boring and full of cgi which doesn't make a good film

  • "look at what i have to work with"

a glue stick, paper clips, and a stapler

  • @Cybergamer57 - "You see what I have to work with here" - A Medieval looking saw blade.

  • @Cybergamer57 -lol

  • This is one of the best scenes in the movie

  • THE BEST Live action BATMAN Movie . yes even better from the dark knight .

  • @michaelforthriller amen to that!

  • This scene is brilliant

  • Im pretty sure that doctor is my GP.

  • @gmcclelland1992 - No way? He's my former dentist. At least I can star in the remake of Deliverance though, which isn't so bad.

  • I had nightmares after I saw this as a kid. I remember asking my mom if doctors had underground workshops like this and it terrfied me even more.

  • @itzIsolation yeah you gotta admit tim burton can turn scenes into freaky moments. i.e. in charlie and the chocolate factory those quirky moments always scared me. I watched David Wolper's and liked it much better.

  • @itzIsolation He;s a mob doctor, they usually operate out of view

  • Oh my god this terrified me when I was a kid.

  • I remember when they did a parody of this in the Simpsons when Lisa gets her braces.

  • @MaxCovington543

that was my favorite parody where Lisa asks for a mirror to see her new braces and starts laughing and the orthodontist was cowering in fear made me laugh.

  • @MaxCovington543 dental plan

  • @MaxCovington543 They actually parodied this scene twice on The Simpsons, the second time Krusty got boobs.

  • @MaxCovington543 I was just about to say that :)

  • the jokers are so damn different it's incredible

  • @PleaseCrySomeMore you're not a troll and it's not your job to make fun of a dead person! you're nothing but an asshole who seeks attention in the internet probably because you never got any attention in real life! i feel bad for you.....

  • @PleaseCrySomeMore wow i have seen many bad horrible disgusting comments people write to get some attention but making fun of a dead person! that's beyond low! congrats you just raise the bar on how low a person can be!

  • I don't get it, what does he mean by "The nerves were completely severed Mr. Napier." can someone explain the anatomy to me? :D

  • @sharkboiidlopez22 It means his nerves are dead

  • @sharkboiidlopez22 A bullet ricocheted into Napier's face and severed some facial nerves, so his face is paralyzed in a constant grin.

  • the thing i loved about this joker was he looked just like he stepped out of a comic, to me the joker is best when hes cartoony IMO

  • did anyone else notice the blooper mess up look very carefully as hes leaving an goin up the stairs jack nicholsons face is kinda seen an hes not actually wearing the joker makeuP :-)

  • @musicking8608 he wasn't meant to be wearing the makup, he's just had reconstructive surgery, not a face paint!

  • the joker got 2 people i wonder why?

  • I always thought and still thinks that doctor is actually Doctor Strange. I mean they showed Harvey Dent in the film right?

  • oh yeah Heath Ledger was definitely the best joker! He did this scene so much better than Jack

  • @quaidnomore This scene wasn't in The Dark Knight.

  • @bigtaterman yeah because the dark knight is shit!

  • @quaidnomore Yeah, ok.

  • this scene scared the hell out of me as a kid :) Nicholson played a superb Joker.

  • mirror........MIRROR!

  • what a fucking psycho. i love it

  • When does that asshole said "If you gotta go, go with a smile" ???

  • 0:40 You know the doctor screwed up Bad when he says Oh My God!

  • Why did he get surgery?

  • "If you have to go, go with a smile!"

  • There goes another happy customer.... :D

  • I always found this part to be funny.

  • I saw the parody of this scene in one episode of the Simpsons and I didn't know where it came from....until now.

  • @callahaine100 I don't suppose you remember the name of the episode or the episode title by chance, would you? If not, that's fine.

  • @MisteryMitchG season 4 ep 17 Last exit to springfield :)

  • @callahaine100 Thanks.

  • @callahaine100 I am actually going to try to upload it

  • at least he liked it! lucky doctor

  • ya i love how you hear him sobbing at first when the surgeon explains...and when he grabs the surgeons shirt as hes taking off the bandage

  • this one scene trumps all of the dark knight

  • @shadovex28 It actually doesn't.

  • @shadovex28 BAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

  • @shadovex28 umm, k....?

  • Mirror.......MIRROR!!!!

  • Im pretty sure it was just the acid that bleached his skin and changed his hair green. I can only guess from this scene that he went to some underground surgeon in some vain attempt to restore his look and well... he got that smile. Yeah, I don't know.

  • so, was it the acid that made his skin and hair green and then this guy made his face that way? or is it all the acid? :p

  • This is what happens when you don't have medical insurance

  • this is the kind of joker that should have been in the dark knight, but dont get me wrong legder played a great joker but they made him to serious but jack knew who to make it funny and insane at the same time, so lets thank both jack and legder for some joker craziness :)

  • when he started laughing and walked away, he scared the shit out of me no joke.

  • leder is the best actor

  • This is why i like Nicholson's joker better, you actually get to see the very moment he becomes the joker, when he loses all sanity. Heath may of given a better performance, but Jack's character is way more interesting.

  • Michael Jackson.

  • No one could've played that part better than Jack Nicholson,Thumbs up if u agree!

  • YESSS

  • i remember when i was younger i use to laugh hysterically at this part lol

  • I love this scene...and his laugh started to make me laugh!

  • cool and really dark!!!!!!! I like this movie a lottt!!!!!!! I need buy it on DVD, still have it in VHS jejeje

  • wauw when he saw his face it just made him insane

  • For all the talk about how great Ledger was (and he was) people don't give Nicholson nearly enough credit for phenomenal scenes such as this one. The disturbed whimper/laugh sounds he makes in between 0.49-1.00 sound like he's RELEASING the last few exasperated gasps of sanity he has left. When he starts properly laughing, it's like an orgasm of madness.

  • @gothamite27 - He was borderline the whole time, getting pushed into the vat of toxic sludge pushed him into insanity. & he was on the verge of sobbing, then we hear the birth of the maniacal laugh that is the Joker's trademark.

  • Mirror. MIRROR! oh.....oh..... Aahhheee he eheheh AHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH AHAHAHAH HHAHAHAHAHAH HAA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • Mirror. MIRROR!

  • goddamn this used to scare me so much as a kid

  • THIS is the Joker

  • @RhumOnFire

WRONG! This is best scene about Joker's origin on film.

  • When I was a kid I always scared of this scene lollol now as an adult it still gives me shivers brilliant acting as ever from Nicholson

  • i felt sorry for him

  • Creepy as hell.

  • Insanity at it purest.

  • Lisa Simpson made a cool homage to this performance!!! ;)

  • @comaster2 wut episode?

  • @southparkjrd season 4 episode "last exit to springfield"
