I think you are confusing Faisal al Saud with Faisal ibn Hussein of banu Hashim who, by the help of the british, became the king of Iraq in 1921 - It was he who was the friend of TE Lawrence.

This Faisal is the king who was behind the oil embargo of 1973, sending US and Europe into chaos.
