  • David Fincher Where have you been? I've been waiting since SE7EN

  • Imagine re-masking these shots with todays tech.

  • They started production of ALIEN in 1978, no computer animation, just puppets, stop motion and tons of work. This movie was way ahead of it's time. The whole series is pure genius.

  • why didn't they put costume of aliens instaed

  • People are high, the effects are horrible. I'm 30, and back when i saw this for the first time, i thought it looked horrible. Alot of people at the time stated that about the movie.

  • damn.. those miniature sets are mind boggling

  • there :wumpscut: logo 9:26-9:29

  • The concept behind this method is brilliant, but I think the main issue was that it was executed rather crudely. They should have thought up of more solid blue screen compositing techniques. If we didn't see the reflection of the blue screen glistening on the alien, it would have looked wonderful.

  • the puppet was actually brilliant. If they did that with today's composting techniques, it would be amazing looking.

  • @xalener The lickers in the Resident Evil movies would have been good candidates. They're basically the same thing as this alien except the tail is in the front, not the back.

  • @squeehunter

    Oh definitely.

It could even work on a larger scale. Imagine something like the clover field monster with a 5 ft puppet. That would be interesting.

  • I was quite upset about Hicks, Newt and (eventually) Ripley dieing but I have to admit Alien 3 brought back horror into the franchise unlike Aliens that was more scifi action oriented.

  • @epsilon881

It was completely unexpected and no one saw it coming. It was a WTF moment. And that's why it was awesome.

  • @epsilon881

Which is scarier;one alien running around or a group running around? :)

  • why dont they use that technique mixed with cgi these days??!!!!! that would look outstanding

  • @Fahstudios13579 Because movies are about making money these days.. And building a puppet and hiring puppeteers is more expensive than paying an animator to make it on a computer.. sad ;(

  • holy crap that alien wasent cgi?!

  • @TheAntman2006 Weird, right?

  • The forced perspective set of the furnace is one aspect that doesn't work at all - visually you can't even tell what it's supposed to be.

  • oh wow it was a puppet the whole time? i had no idea ! thats fucking amazing ! i have even more respect for this movie now

  • It was a nice try but unfortunately the Alien looks a bit out of the place in any scene this puppet appears. Even for the time, something didn't felt right.

  • @danielborges69 Yeah I think it was a combination of the difference between the lighting on the puppet and the lighting on the set - it never really matched.

  • wow tech came a long way

  • You guys are too picky. I think the puppet technic is artistically clever and I'm amazed of how well it worked. Enjoy your crappy CGI :)

  • @kennyferry

You are right. the puppet technique was a great idea. But the limitations were visible.

Imagine one stuntman running as an alien or even a dog running as an alien.

  • I do like the movie, but the puppet work looked like rather crappy CGI.

  • This doku is a self-congratulatory stroke job...and the result was a product that didn't frighten anyone, didn't look real, and nobody gave a shit about.

  • it looks dank piss off haters

  • The puppet would've worked better if you didn't see so much of it in such revealing light.

  • one of the problems of ALIEN 3 was the puppy.. We the Audience could tell it was not real!
