As for Bush's war on terrorism, you are dead wrong. Since 9-11, we have not been attacked. Say what you will, the fact remains WE HAVE NOT BEEN ATTACKED. Bush's strategy is sound, while not always executed effectively. You cannot treat terrorism as police problem. Terrorism is a tactic which must be countered with a tactic.
I just gave you evidence that the Brits thwarted a recent Al Qaeda attack through police intelligence. Whether it be Scotland Yard, The FBI, or the CIA, the solution is not going to be handled militarily, i.g. 160,000 troops in Iraq. I've already explained to you the history of terrorist attacks, so I'm not going to burn you again about why there hasn't been a terrorist attack in the U.S. It has nothing to do w/ the competency of the Bush adm. If anything, he's making things much worse.
How many attacks have they failed to prevent? How about the 7/7 bombings? I am not saying that we still don't need to protect ourselves at home. What I am saying is that WE HAVE NOT BEEN ATTACKED SINCE 9-11. You didn't "burn" me. You are wrong. Invading Iraq has made us safer here for the last six years. Al-Qaeda says they are fighting us in Iraq.
Al Qaeda are back to full strength as they were b/f 9/11. The Taliban are back in operation in Afghanistan, largely b/c our resources have been diverted to Iraq. I realize that we have not been attacked & have explained to you that terrorists attacks have never been conducted on an annual basis. Prior to 9/11, there had never been an attack on U.S. soil, other than domestic terror. The war in Iraq has increased recruitment in terrorist organizations, not lessened it.
cvjucla, I agree with you about Iraq and terrorist recruitment, but the part of no terror attacks on US soil is wrong. What about the 1993 World Trade Center Attack?
That's true. Indeed, and it further adds to my point that terrorism directed at the U.S. has never occured on a consistent annual basis, i.e. attacks done by foreign islamic terrorists on U.S. soil.
US already has major masterminds of terror in custody, like Alqaida Khalid Sheikh, Omer Sheikh, Rmzee, etc.
How Islamist these dudes look ?
In First week of sept 2001, condi was on hot platter to get approval for purchase of huge quantities of Amunation, including survelance drones.Army didn't recommend purchase.Than Came 911 as gold mine for sale of war gears.
You need to get your news from legitimate news sources, other than Fox & your conservative talk radio commute. Try C-Span if you think CNN is the "liberal news media." CNN are balanced, except to people like you, who already have a partisan, bias viewpoint. Your tainted viewpoint recoils whenever you hear facts that goes against your distorted right-wing ideology. I watch & read "all" news sources. When I read, listen, or see the news, I start with a critical, but openmind. Try this.
The anthrax... Nope. No terror there. Oh yeah, they are still out there. The DC shooters... Nope. No terror there. And just so you know, the police are trained to use the proper tactics against terrorists. It is a police problem. But feel free to live your life in fear of a tactic. bush says: "Terror! Fear!" and conservatives everywhere wet their pants. Truly sad.
You can play word games and duck the truth all you want. You and I both know this was nothing more than a witch hunt. The Democrats and their willing media people simply manufactured a scandal.
BILL CLINTON Fired all U.S. Attorneys to appoint Paula Casey to prevent Judge David Hale from testifying against Clinton. He also blocked Justice Department indictments after Inspector
General Sherman Funk found "criminal violations of the Privacy Act provable beyond reasonable doubt" when former Bush employee files were searched and leaked to the press.
It's bedtime for Gonzo. I just finished viewing Veracifier's vid 'TPMtv: Unforgettable,' at 8:43 sec. It is a tour de force of the lies, contradictions, deceit, manipulation, & abuse of Gonzo's tenure as U.S. Attorney General. These are Gonzo's 'Greatest Hits' folks. It's a Must see for denial devotees, 'WEDDEL, BELLITA, VICTOR, or anyone w/ an interest in Truth, Justice, & the American way. Gonzales should be DISBARRED.
It is a shame that the liberal media has done everything to discredit President Bush and his Administration. The liberals think they own minorites and they don't like any minority who isn't liberal. That is why they go after Gonzales and Rice. He was the best attrny gnrl this country has ever had.
No, the satellite technology has proven otherwise.
I knew this was was a mistake from day 1 (oil,$,oil,$) and this fish stinks from the Head down. As our stinky fish, the president, is preparing for his vacancy, he's cutting his dead limbs off faster than a fly on shit.
Watch them fly!
All he cares about now is leaving behind more lies, ie...a successful tenure in office.
What a sham.
This president will go down in history as the most famous robber baron of the 20th century.
Bellita: Gonzales "the best AG this country has ever had"? LOL. Better than E. Randolph, who established the post under Washington? Better than Bates under Lincoln? Better than Jackson, the man who prosecuted the Nuremburg trials? I bet you couldn't even name another 3 AGs without looking it up to save your life! Even Ed Meese did a better job than Gonzales, not to mention Dick Thornburgh. "Best AG ever..." I can't stop laughing!
It's because they have nothing else to say. It displays the extent of their intelligence. It's that old game when you're a kid, and do something wrong, and you say, " Well Jimmy did it, too!"
The point was not to say that Clinton did anything wrong. The point was and is that every President is entitled to hire and fire his own US Attorneys.
But when those Attys. are fired by the head of the Justice Dept. for no apparent reason, other than the fact that they are not promoting the Pres' agenda, an inquiry can be put forth. It's called "oversight." We are suppose to live in a transparent society. Also, if the GOP were still in charge of Cong., Gonzo's lies would never have seen light in a Congressional hearing. That's why the Bush adm. was getting away w/ murder prior to 2006, b/c GOPs closed their eyes to any of its malfeasances.
There was a reason, and Gonzales told them the reason, "Poor Performance". Who evaluates their performance? The Attorney General! Not the Congress, not the Democrats! It is called a witch hunt.
It's called denial. I guess you didn't watch the hearings to well, b/c Gonzo's word is definitely not his bond. The whole crux of the Congressional hearings demonstrated Gonzales' unwillingness to tell the truth and a preponderance of facts that were filled with contradictions. What part don't you get?
How many hours of hearings were held? How many people testified? How many times was he asked the same questions again and again in different ways. What are the contradictions? He said he made the decision to fire these attorneys for the reasons he stated. END OF STORY!
I finally get your position. You believe that Gonzo is telling the truth, and there weren't any contradictions that Gonzo made; that not remembering key issues to key questions w/ respect to approximately 75 questions is the norm. I can remember what I did last Halloween and the key events which took place that day. These questions weren't so hard as what exact time of day Gonzo went to the bathroom, just ordinary questions that have an effect on roughly 200 million Americans.
When have the Democrats ever cared about the truth? These 8 attorneys work for the Attorney General and the President. They were asked to resign. The Attorney General said he made the decision based on the recommendations he was given by senior staff. Tell what about those facts is unclear or requires 75 "key questions" for clarification?
You know, Weddel, there is actual video tape of Gonzo lieing, circumventing basic questions, and getting caught in countless contradictions. I urge you to view this important footage before you're willing to take a bullet for Gonzo & Bush.
There is no reason for him to lie because nothing improper or illegal was done. I am not willing to take a bullet for someone who has done something wrong. There is a great deal both Bush and the AG have done wrong. This however was not one of those things.
Right on Weddel, I don't care if Gonzo lied about US attorneys, warrantless wiretapping, Pat Tillman, Texas Border Agents serving time in prison for doing their job, or anything else in this completely opaque administration. I am just going to keep listening to limbaugh so I can get the real truth.
Poor performance? When Gonzalez was asked for specifics, he gave some possible reasons for firing an attorney. When asked if any of the US Attorneys were fired for any of the examples given, his answer was, "no".
What difference does it make? If they were asked to resign to simply make room for someone else, it does not matter. They work for the President. He can ask them to leave anytime for any reason. There is and never was any scandal.
Here's why it matters. If you are going to lie under oath, on the record, with a video camera in your face, don't lie about something for which there is documentary evidence directly contradicting your statements. That is the scandal. Get it now?
And Bellita: this blaming "the liberal media" for every screwup by the GOP is getting really old. Yesterday Larry Craig blamed the media for his getting arrested and pleading guilty for soliciting sex in a men's room! "The nasty media made me do it." What ever happened to the party of "personal responsibility?"
True, he copped a lesser plea, because of all the "stress" the press has put him through. So he plead guilty, under oath, then said it was all a mistake, then blamed a newspaper in Idaho. Lovely.
anyone with a little brains can read between the lines when you read the police report. What was trying to do but solicit sex oh! yeah don't forget wide stance and no toilet paper and yeah lying under oath hmmm
Getting "permission" from the Government to protest against them defeats the whole purpose! You need the Government permission to do ANYTHING! Hunt, build, drive, work, travel, fish, grow, etc. And then they can shoot you if you disagree and want to voice your opinion without your permission? Hurray for democracy!
"The United States was supposed to have a limited government because the founders knew governmental power attracts swarms of crooks, demagogues and despots as surely as horse manure attracts swarms of horseflies."
"The United States was supposed to have a limited government because the founders knew governmental power attracts swarms of crooks, demagogues and despots as surely as horse manure attracts swarms of horseflies."
What a load of FUCKING SHIT!!!!!!!! I wish Bush was an Iraqi. Because, thanks to himself, he'd probably have been sprayed with machine gun bullets, along with his wife and kids by some deranged US soldier. Now THAT'S JUSTICE.
150 people from pat robertsons jesus camp/law school have been given jobs in the justice dept by gonzo, including third in charge a 31 year old with no experience as a laywer monica goodling
He cleared used Gonzales for polital hardball: decreasing Congressional powers, and expanding powers of the Executive branch. So this Congress stood up for a change and President Bushie says "Foul!".
Guess Bushie is still use to having a rubber-stamp "yessa" Republican Congress.
Wow, either Bush is back on the sauce or he has some serious mental problems which require heavy doses of meds. I am serious. How can you go from speaking coherently 9 years ago to such a decline. Dig up some of this earlier speeches from when he was running for Governor of Texas and compare them to this man today.
August 8, 2005 - the Los Angeles Times reported that the day after a grand jury subpoena of records connected to Jack Abramoff "U.S. Attorney Frederick A. Black, who had launched the investigation, was demoted. A White House news release announced that Bush was replacing Black." His replacement, Leonardo Rapadas, recommended for the job by the Guam Republican Party, was confirmed without any debate. The investigation of Abramoff in Guam ended when "
Rapadas recused himself from the public corruption case involving [Carl] Gutierrez" because "the new U.S. attorney was a cousin of 'one of the main targets'," according to a confidential memo to Justice Department officials."
We all owe a thanks to Josh Marshall and the crew at TPMuckraker for all the work they did to bring the actions of this bunch into the daylight. They are the real 1st Amendment journalists.
getplaning: I second that emotion. Josh Marshall and TP Muckraker are doing the job that the MSM should have been doing all along. Kudos to Josh & Co.
Now if only that other crook Dick "Shooter" Cheney would submit his resignation. Or better yet, I would love to see him getting escorted from the White House in hancuffs crying and falling to his knees just like that other piece of garbage, Rev. Jim Baker!
-- It was Alberto Gonzales, not Congress, who fired attorneys for political reasons.
-- It was Alberto Gonzales, not Congress, who gave the White House political team unprecedented power to intercede in the affairs of the Justice Department.
-- It was Alberto Gonzales, not Congress, who allowed his department to illegally hire attorneys based on their loyalty to the Republican Party and the Bush administration.
Safer????According to who??When the people of this country cannot trust it's own government,no one is safe. Did this speech make anyone else feel sick?
My wife just walked by, glanced at the screen, and said, "what a douche." Military Commisions Act is Martial Law, people, the Army policing the streets of the US.
War on terror, Patriot Act You fuckin idiots!!!! Stop stealing our freedoms you son of a bitches!!!Bush you cum swallowing pussy you are the internet preditor!!!
Reminds me of the Sam Peckinpah movie "Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia"!!!Bring me the head of Alberto Gonzales...A great movie by the way, I really want to see Bring me the head of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Rove,Bremmer,Rice,Snow,Gulliani,Silverstein,Pearle,And Poppy Bush!!!!
why has noone tried to assassinate this nutcase and any or all of his sham/pedophile/ terrorist/ demon government, please? Seriously there are so many nutters in the States surely one self respecting lunatic would think to do it.
Sorry Octo, that's not crying you hear, but laughter! But please, keep posting your loyal Bushie talking point: Gonzales was hounded out of office because libs hate minorities! Like that mean nasty Hispanic-hating liberal Arlen Specter!
Meanwhile, I'm with Martin Espada when he says: "Sera verdad lo que dicen: soy listo, pero tengo una mala actitud."
Now Lou, how can you say such a thing, when you and I have so much in common? We both love billybob57, zeeemongo, and funnyman117, though I have to say I'm not too impressed with Lindsey Williams. And you do know my comment to Octo was a parody, or sorts? Not a good one maybe, but still....
Oh well, I've been called much worse in my day. So good night, and best wishes.
Leave Chertoff as the head of Homeland Security, and appoint Ted Olson as the new Attorney General. Ted's wife was killed on 9/11 when flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon.
You know, when I first heard his name mentioned, I wasn't that opposed to the idea, even though he did argue on behalf of Bush in front of the Supreme Court which won Bush the presidency in 2000. Yeah, his wife, Barbara, did die on 9/11. Tragic. I just want an Attorney General who will represent the U.S. and all the things that this great nation once stood for: the Constitution, the Rule of Law, etc. Is that too much to ask?
Can we all at least agree that Bush's speech writer should step down too?
Every speech Bush delivers sounds like the writer copied and pasted entire parts from a Wikipedia stub. Do we need a play-by-play of the man's life? I'm surprised he didn't tell us between what hours "Al" evacuates his bowels or if he prefers seasoned or regular fries.
Quit lying Bush. Just stop it. Stop with the lying. You and Cheney pulled a fast one over on the American people. Congratulations. Under you the rich got richer and everyone else got the shaft. Mission Accomplished! But why keep lying? You won and the rich people, the only Americans you care about, won. Congrats. Now try being honest for once.
Octo: poor GOPers, so desperate they're now playing the dreaded race card. So you're saying Arlen Specter went after Gonzales because Specter hates Hispanics? And that tens of millions of registered Dems, including umpteen members of minority groups themselves, all hate minorities? I guess that's why they consistently vote Dem by such wide margins, huh? Octo: you can do better than that.
It always amazes me how much Republicans are in need of a civics lesson. Not thinking for oneself & keeping people down & dependent through fear & religion, & by means of the media has been the Republican ethos for the last 60 years. Using conservative catch phrases such as Plantation & saying that liberals want to keep people down & dependent & not think for themselves is a bad tactic.
I would like to suggest Patrick Fitzgerald for AG. He's get the credentials and experience. He also prosecuted the first WTC attackers, so he's quite familiar with the job.
Dont you guys get it...The republicans and democrat are the same...All this is just cannon faughter....A little game they play to keep you entertained. Keep you off the real topics, the Democrat's would have gladly subverted the U.S. constitution just like them if given the chance to take more power over the people. In fact they supported Bush on these key issues. Sheep......
oh, and people are cowards or idiots, not the party. it is unfortunate that so many of you lump the actions of one or a few of either democrat or republican into the WHOLE party. i will not sit here and say either side is infalliable, they both have problems. working them out is the answer, not exploiting their mistakes for personal gratification
the saddest part of all of this is that most of you people see things in the light of democrat or republican. kind of like being black or white. you are so stuck attacking each other's political standpoint that you cant see the big picture, all you can see are the failings of someone else, blown way out of proportion. this is worse than racism, and has the same zeal that racism once (and unfortunatly still does) had.
doubt al qaeda or anyone else even considered that with the US having been hit by terrorists that it would INVADE THE WRONG COUNTRY, one that was totally contained and had no links to terrorism. However, you can be sure that they're glad now. Al qaeda's cause has grown exponentially along with worldwide hatred of the US. Thanks a lot CHICKENHAWKS
BTW: For the Fanatic Bush loyalists - Gonzales had lost the confidence and respect OF REPUBLICANS. The Senate Republicans were not going to defend or back Gonzales. Gonzo should have resigned two months ago when he began lying to Congress.
He did not lie. This was nothing more than a Democratic witch hunt. Gonzales will be replaced and life will go on. The Democrats will accomplished nothing of substance. They promised change and delivered lies.
He lieD - he first said that he had nothing to do with the firing of the 8 attorneys. That is a lie. He was kept abreast of the firing list by Kyle Sampson. He spoke to Karl Rove about the firing of attorneys. He also lied when he said he did not discuss the firing problem with Monica Goodling. He lied when he said he " could not recall " the details of an important meeting
How many "important meetings" do you think this man attended? With terrorism and national security, why would he remember something a trivial as getting rid of a few US Attorneys. He said he made the decision and that should have been the end of it.
He wasn't lying. How many meetings do you remember from 2006? How many times do you think I can get you to say "I don't remember"? What if when you remember something wrong, I charge you with perjury? He can fire whoever he wants for whatever reasons he wants.
It's hard to tell but are your posts supposed to be sarcastic and/or funny? If not, they're ridiculous and show you know nothing of either govt or the legal profession. I'm an attorney and Phd in Legal Philosophy (not that that makes me an expert of the world) but detail is the live and die for attorneys. Of course, he's lying and you're really naive if you think he didn't know this act was both illegal and unethical. He's not stupid despite appearances.
He did nothing illegal or unethical. US attorneys are politically appointed positions. You know that. You know that they get replaced routinely by administrations. This was nothing but a manufactured scandal.
Since when is lying ethical? And that's why we have hearings to inquire any illegalities, wrongdoings, or abuse of power. And if there is, then, we present evidence and prosecute. That's why the hearings will continue. And if you saw the hearings, you would clearly see that Gonzo is/was lying & circumventing the truth. Your denial of the truth is a major character flaw.
No, the Democrats have hearings about nothing. There was no crime in firing the US Attorneys. They grill Justice Department officials for hours simply to try and get them to make a mistake. Your hatred of Bush is your character flaw.
You clearly don't understand half of what you're saying. You don't have a grasp on the US Attorney issue concerning 'at will' or 'at the pleasure of . .' These are not 'immunity cards'. You cannot fire ANYONE in the US for false reasons. You might get by firing for NO reason, but not political reasons that are stated. You need to do a lot more homework before making more of a fool of yourself.
I tried yesterday to get this Dimwit to understand that but he is quite uneducated and incapable of complex thinking. He just couldn't grasp the 'At Will' concept and under what conditions it cannot be used. Good Luck with your efforts.
Can a US attorney be fired for no reason? Yes, Clinton fired ALL 93 in one day. The reason was he was now President and wanted his own people. Were there any sensitive investigations going on at the time? Was he planning to politicized the Justice Department? You are the dimwit. There was no crime or even ethical breach. This was just politics.
Such a dumb dumb. you CANNOT understand the 'At Will' concept. I saw an attorney explain it to you and you still don't get it. Just really dumb and uneducated.
I cannot believe anyone is this stupid. US attorneys are POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS. You can fire them for no reason, or any reason. Presidents have fired all 93 in one day simply because they wanted to replace them. No one questioned their reason or motivation for doing so. Bush fired eight for his own reasons. You are the fool.
Such a dumb dumb. you CANNOT understand the 'At Will' concept. I saw an attorney explain it to you and you still don't get it. Just really dumb and uneducated.
I understand the concept, but it does not apply here. These are political appointments. They can be asked to resign for any reason their boss considers valid. There is no recourse. They serve "at the pleasure" of the President. If he is not pleased, then they are gone.
Are you actually this STUPID? Your profile says you're 49 but these illiterate posts sound more like you might be closer to 16 or so. They sound more like a Cheney thing with the 'uh uh, no way, there are too WMD's' and crap like that. You are an uneducated embarrassment to even the REDNECKS
You are the one who is disregarding certain facts because you hate Bush so much. Whether we found WMD's or not is not relevant. No one knew for sure until we invade.
The reason why the majority of Dems voted to go to war was b/c the Bush adm. claimed that there was NO QUESTION that there were WMDs, Iraq HAD connections w/ Al Qaeda, WERE developing nuclear weapons, & attacks WERE imminent. That's why you exhaust diplomacy, use inspectors, verify intelligence, & understand history, so you don't feel inclined to go into a sovereign country, destroy its infrastructure, create a civil war, occupy their land, & kill U.S. soldiers for nothing.
The Democrats voted for the war because the reasons for going were sound. Saddam was in violation of the cease-fire agreement. We knew he was trying to develop WMD's. We try diplomacy, inspections, monitoring, sanctions, and the UN. We waited 18 months before we invade. Saddam had every opportunity to change, he did not.
We didn't exahaust diplomacy. That's why the French & Germans would not support us going to war b/c we didn't pursue it far enough. They were correct. The inspections, done by Hans Blix, prior to the invasion, confirmed that there were no WMDs, but the Bush adm. invaded anyways. Iraq's violation of sanctions and the No Fly-Zone is not a cause for WAR. The neo-cons used 9/11, took advantage of U.S. citizens anger for the attacks, & fabricated evidence to go to war.
The French and the Germans were making a bundle off of the Oil for Food program. They were NEVER going to support invading. We tried for 18 months. Do you get that! 18 months to get Saddam to comply! He refused. You want to blame someone, blame Saddam.
We tried for 18 months to do what? To prove that Saddam had WMDs? That was incorrect, just as Hans Blix had said b/f the invasion. That Saddam needed to stop producing nuclear weapons? That was wrong. Or was it what the Bush adm. was selling you? That we would be greeted as liberators not occupiers; that there would be dancing in the streets; & that we would be able to use Iraqi oil to pay for the war. Saddam couldn't comply to things that weren't there.
"Whether we found WMDs or not is not relevant. No one knew for sure until we invade." Glad you weren't around advising Pres. Kennedy during the 'Cuban Missle Crisis,' or the entire Eastern seabord would be gone today. Your "red herring" that the Dems "hate Bush" is getting old. They disagree w/ the GOPs & the Bush adms.' POLICIES, b/c they threaten to destroy the foundations on which the U.S. stands.
No, disagreement is one thing. They HATE Bush because he beat them TWICE. Manufacturing scandal after scandal with the Liberal media buddies. You fail to understand how 9-11 changed the way we need to view the world.
Will never be in agreement b/c you think the Dems manufacture scandal after scandal even though evidence proves this notion otherwise. The way you view the world after 9/11 is obviously wrong b/c Bush's War on Terror is flawed and valuable resources are being diverted unwisely. All the things John Kerry said in 2004,i.e. we need international support to fight terror, it's more of a police problem than a military one, were correct & that's how the Brits. foiled their recent terrorists attacks.
I think Bush has made several serious mistakes as President. I had disagreed with many of his decisions. What I disagree with Democrats on is their invention of sandals as means of covering their inability to do anything even when in power. The AG fired 8 US attorneys. That is his right, not the Congress. Were they fired for political reasons, maybe. US attorneys are ALL fired for political reasons.
CHENEY never served a day for our country. Took 5, yes 5 deferments to stay out of the service and actually said 'I had other priorities in the 60's' Rove didn't serve at all and took student deferments all the way through. BUSH perhaps is the most disgraceful of all. His father got him to the top of the Natl Guard Registry where he not only didn't go to Viet Nam, busy keeping the Viet Cong out of Mississippi, AND was then AWOL for his final year there.
Fact, the documents were forged in order to influence the outcome of an election. Bush has served and was never AWOL. Hatred is such a blinding thing!
To this very day, the Bushites cannot verify that he was even there at all in his last 11 months. He didn't even report for his final physical and never informed them that he wasn't going to. It's not that hard to actually find out facts before stating an opinion.
Was he charged with desertion or with being AWOL? NO! Were the documents used to make this accusation forged? YES! Did Rather lose his job over making this false accusation? YES! Maybe you should deal in facts and stop stating opinions.
The whole Rather episode is a distraction from the fact that BUSH was AWOL for almost 11 months from the guard. I think you're getting your info from Faux News, which is not news. Read the record of Bush's lack of service. There are more than 30 requirements which Bush did not fulfill and would have generated a paper trail. DIDN'T Happen.
I just realized I said Mississippi, it was Alabama that Bush was supposed to defend and failed to do so. He got another chance to defend them in the Katrina debacle and failed them once again!!!! 'A heckuva job you're doing there Brownie!'. Uh huh
This is just so typical of the blind hatred of liberals like you towards our commander in chief. Bush is one of the bravest presidents of this century. You hate him because he does not kowtow to your atheist agenda.
Bush could not be more stupid and inarticulate, defending the absolute indefensible, claiming wrong is right, black is white. It has truly been a surreal period in our history that will unquestionably go down as the Darkest Period in our country's history. AND further, I'm not impressed with a Chickenhawk president who dodged going to Viet Nam by going AWOL from the Natl Guard that his Daddy got him into.
That's a bizarre statement since Clinton actually did try to take out Bin Laden, handed over intelligence reports emphasizing the role of al Qaeda in the region to Bush and Bush did NOTHING. Not just kind of nothing but ACTUALLY NOTHING until after we were hit. A little too little and a lot too late. 911 happened during the Bush Presidency not Clinton's.
Not bizarre when you look at the facts. Clinton never did "try" take out Bin Laden. There was never a "KILL ORDER" given. Look at the number of attacks we suffered under Clinton, with virtually no response except the launching of a few missiles at the wrong targets. Since 9-11 we have not been attacked. That is a FACT!
Wrong targets? Oh that's classic! BUSH AND CHENEY INVADED THE WRONG COUNTRY!!!!!!!! A country that had nothing to do with terrorism and which has now become literally a breeding ground for terrorists. Not seeing a problem with that? Doesn't bother you to be lied to and deceived by your govt? More of a soldier than anyone deserves, however, something about your posts tells me you never served either. Just talked.
First, Iraq was the right country to invade for many reasons. They had links to terrorism. That is a fact. I was not lied to or deceived by my government. Finally, whether or not I served as a soldier or not, is immaterial to the debate.
By INVADING THE WRONG COUNTRY, we've created a breeding ground for terrorism, destroyed the infrastructure of a country (NO Haliburton hasn't restored it), killed hundreds of thousands of innocent victims, maimed more than a million, killed 4000 of our own guys and there is NO report linking Iraq to terrorism. Just because CRAZY CHENEY says it doesn't make it true!
First, Iraq was already a breeding ground for terrorism since Gulf War 1. Second, their infrastructure was destroyed during the first war and left most in disrepair. Third, we have not killed "hundreds of thousands". Fourth, we have seized documents in Iraq that describe their relationship to terrorism.
Already a breeding ground? That's an Absurd statement. Under Saddam, Iraq was a breeding ground for terrorists? Sooo absurd that no more discussion is necessary. Enjoy the delusion Dorothy!
I am very interested in seeing these "documents." Would you be kind enough to let me know where I can find them? Last time I checked, the administration backed away from the link between Iraq and the original Al Queda that attacked us.
I never said they linked Iraq directly to Al Queda. I said they had ties to terrorism. Even the 9-11 commission said there was evidence of Iraqi ties to terrorism, just not to "operational involvement" with 9-11.
"Launching of a few missiles?" Actually, it was 75, the largest US attack on any terrorist group up to that time. The Afghan target was the main al-Qaeda training camp, and missed bin Laden by a few hours. How many strikes did Bush carry out during the 8 months prior to 9-11? Zero. What was the Bush response to the attack on the Cole? Nonexistent.
He dealt w/ terrorism as a cause to go to war. And I wouldn't be proud at the way he has conducted and executed that war. I swear if you saw Bush smoking crack, you'd still some how spin that as well.
He was not there to represent the PEOPLE. He was Attorney General serving the President. What the Democrats have done to this man is unconscionable. We have not been attacked here at home because of his hard work and willingness to fight for OUR SECURITY.
Not there to represent the People? Well that's a new one under the constitution. His job is EXACTLY to represent the people and not to play puppet to the Executive Branch. And he did that poorly. Do you honestly think he resigned because his feelings were hurt at the way he was treated? Ridiculous!
He resigned because he could no longer do the job he wanted to do. Endless hearings about nothing. Accusations being treated like evidence. Scandals being invented by the Democrats and echoed by the media. He worked for the President who appointed him to protect the people. He did it well in a difficult time.
Hearings about nothing? Really? And here the world is thinking it was about a breach of our constitution, a breach of the separation of powers. Politicization of the Judiciary. AND LYING. Obfuscating and conveniently forgetting anything that didn't fit Bush's agenda. See, I thought those things weren't 'nothing'. What parts of our constitution would you like to ignore and abuse next?
Let me give you one example: The firing of the US Attorneys. Every US Attorney serves at the pleasure of the President who appointed them. He can ask for their resignation ANYTIME for ANY reason HE WANTS. The Congress does not run the Justice Department. It is part of the EXECUTIVE BRANCH. That is in the Constitution.
Bush = worst president ever
Gonzo = worst AG ever
The Bush Administration was like political cancer to America.

4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
I just gave you evidence that the Brits thwarted a recent Al Qaeda attack through police intelligence. Whether it be Scotland Yard, The FBI, or the CIA, the solution is not going to be handled militarily, i.g. 160,000 troops in Iraq. I've already explained to you the history of terrorist attacks, so I'm not going to burn you again about why there hasn't been a terrorist attack in the U.S. It has nothing to do w/ the competency of the Bush adm. If anything, he's making things much worse.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
How many attacks have they failed to prevent? How about the 7/7 bombings? I am not saying that we still don't need to protect ourselves at home. What I am saying is that WE HAVE NOT BEEN ATTACKED SINCE 9-11. You didn't "burn" me. You are wrong. Invading Iraq has made us safer here for the last six years. Al-Qaeda says they are fighting us in Iraq.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Al Qaeda are back to full strength as they were b/f 9/11. The Taliban are back in operation in Afghanistan, largely b/c our resources have been diverted to Iraq. I realize that we have not been attacked & have explained to you that terrorists attacks have never been conducted on an annual basis. Prior to 9/11, there had never been an attack on U.S. soil, other than domestic terror. The war in Iraq has increased recruitment in terrorist organizations, not lessened it.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
cvjucla, I agree with you about Iraq and terrorist recruitment, but the part of no terror attacks on US soil is wrong. What about the 1993 World Trade Center Attack?
Scotty7617 4 years ago
That's true. Indeed, and it further adds to my point that terrorism directed at the U.S. has never occured on a consistent annual basis, i.e. attacks done by foreign islamic terrorists on U.S. soil.

Truly sad.

It's bedtime for Gonzo. I just finished viewing Veracifier's vid 'TPMtv: Unforgettable,' at 8:43 sec. Even Ed Meese did a better job than Gonzales, not to mention Dick Thornburgh. "Best AG ever..." I can't stop laughing!

what has one got to do with the other. Why do the bush supporters always bring up clinton adm's wrong doings as an answer to all bushies fuck up
miniambica 4 years ago
It's because they have nothing else to say. It displays the extent of their intelligence. It's that old game when you're a kid, and do something wrong, and you say, " Well Jimmy did it, too!"
cvjucla3 4 years ago
The point was not to say that Clinton did anything wrong. The point was and is that every President is entitled to hire and fire his own US Attorneys.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
But when those Attys. are fired by the head of the Justice Dept. for no apparent reason, other than the fact that they are not promoting the Pres' agenda, an inquiry can be put forth. It's called "oversight." We are suppose to live in a transparent society. Also, if the GOP were still in charge of Cong., Gonzo's lies would never have seen light in a Congressional hearing. That's why the Bush adm. was getting away w/ murder prior to 2006, b/c GOPs closed their eyes to any of its malfeasances.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
There was a reason, and Gonzales told them the reason, "Poor Performance". Who evaluates their performance? The Attorney General! Not the Congress, not the Democrats! It is called a witch hunt.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
It's called denial. I guess you didn't watch the hearings to well, b/c Gonzo's word is definitely not his bond. The whole crux of the Congressional hearings demonstrated Gonzales' unwillingness to tell the truth and a preponderance of facts that were filled with contradictions. What part don't you get?
cvjucla3 4 years ago
How many hours of hearings were held? How many people testified? How many times was he asked the same questions again and again in different ways. What are the contradictions? He said he made the decision to fire these attorneys for the reasons he stated. END OF STORY!
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
I finally get your position. You believe that Gonzo is telling the truth, and there weren't any contradictions that Gonzo made; that not remembering key issues to key questions w/ respect to approximately 75 questions is the norm. I can remember what I did last Halloween and the key events which took place that day. These questions weren't so hard as what exact time of day Gonzo went to the bathroom, just ordinary questions that have an effect on roughly 200 million Americans.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
When have the Democrats ever cared about the truth? These 8 attorneys work for the Attorney General and the President. They were asked to resign. The Attorney General said he made the decision based on the recommendations he was given by senior staff. Tell what about those facts is unclear or requires 75 "key questions" for clarification?
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
You know, Weddel, there is actual video tape of Gonzo lieing, circumventing basic questions, and getting caught in countless contradictions. I urge you to view this important footage before you're willing to take a bullet for Gonzo & Bush.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
There is no reason for him to lie because nothing improper or illegal was done. I am not willing to take a bullet for someone who has done something wrong. There is a great deal both Bush and the AG have done wrong. This however was not one of those things.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Right on Weddel, I don't care if Gonzo lied about US attorneys, warrantless wiretapping, Pat Tillman, Texas Border Agents serving time in prison for doing their job, or anything else in this completely opaque administration. I am just going to keep listening to limbaugh so I can get the real truth.
trudrewski 4 years ago
Poor performance? When Gonzalez was asked for specifics, he gave some possible reasons for firing an attorney. When asked if any of the US Attorneys were fired for any of the examples given, his answer was, "no".
getplaning 4 years ago
What difference does it make? If they were asked to resign to simply make room for someone else, it does not matter. They work for the President. He can ask them to leave anytime for any reason. There is and never was any scandal.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Here's why it matters. If you are going to lie under oath, on the record, with a video camera in your face, don't lie about something for which there is documentary evidence directly contradicting your statements. That is the scandal. Get it now?
getplaning 4 years ago
And Bellita: this blaming "the liberal media" for every screwup by the GOP is getting really old. Yesterday Larry Craig blamed the media for his getting arrested and pleading guilty for soliciting sex in a men's room! "The nasty media made me do it." What ever happened to the party of "personal responsibility?"
thucy2 4 years ago
Actually, he did not plead guilty to soliciting sex, but who cares about facts right?
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
True, he copped a lesser plea, because of all the "stress" the press has put him through. So he plead guilty, under oath, then said it was all a mistake, then blamed a newspaper in Idaho. Lovely.

Since when is lying ethical? And that's why we have hearings to inquire any illegalities, wrongdoings, or abuse of power. And if there is, then, we present evidence and prosecute. cvjucla3 4 years ago

You need to do a lot more homework before making more of a fool of yourself.

Presidents have fired all 93 in one day simply because they wanted to replace them. No one questioned their reason or motivation for doing so. Bush fired eight for his own reasons. You are the fool.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Such a dumb dumb. you CANNOT understand the 'At Will' concept. I saw an attorney explain it to you and you still don't get it. Just really dumb and uneducated.
shaire99 4 years ago
I understand the concept, but it does not apply here. These are political appointments. They can be asked to resign for any reason their boss considers valid. There is no recourse. They serve "at the pleasure" of the President. If he is not pleased, then they are gone.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Are you actually this STUPID? Your profile says you're 49 but these illiterate posts sound more like you might be closer to 16 or so. They sound more like a Cheney thing with the 'uh uh, no way, there are too WMD's' and crap like that. You are an uneducated embarrassment to even the REDNECKS
shaire99 4 years ago
You are the one who is disregarding certain facts because you hate Bush so much. Whether we found WMD's or not is not relevant. No one knew for sure until we invade.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
The reason why the majority of Dems voted to go to war was b/c the Bush adm. claimed that there was NO QUESTION that there were WMDs, Iraq HAD connections w/ Al Qaeda, WERE developing nuclear weapons, & attacks WERE imminent. That's why you exhaust diplomacy, use inspectors, verify intelligence, & understand history, so you don't feel inclined to go into a sovereign country, destroy its infrastructure, create a civil war, occupy their land, & kill U.S. soldiers for nothing.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
The Democrats voted for the war because the reasons for going were sound. Saddam was in violation of the cease-fire agreement. We knew he was trying to develop WMD's. We try diplomacy, inspections, monitoring, sanctions, and the UN. We waited 18 months before we invade. Saddam had every opportunity to change, he did not.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
We didn't exahaust diplomacy. That's why the French & Germans would not support us going to war b/c we didn't pursue it far enough. They were correct. The inspections, done by Hans Blix, prior to the invasion, confirmed that there were no WMDs, but the Bush adm. invaded anyways. Iraq's violation of sanctions and the No Fly-Zone is not a cause for WAR. The neo-cons used 9/11, took advantage of U.S. citizens anger for the attacks, & fabricated evidence to go to war.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
The French and the Germans were making a bundle off of the Oil for Food program. They were NEVER going to support invading. We tried for 18 months. Do you get that! 18 months to get Saddam to comply! He refused. You want to blame someone, blame Saddam.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
We tried for 18 months to do what? To prove that Saddam had WMDs? That was incorrect, just as Hans Blix had said b/f the invasion. That Saddam needed to stop producing nuclear weapons? That was wrong. Or was it what the Bush adm. was selling you? That we would be greeted as liberators not occupiers; that there would be dancing in the streets; & that we would be able to use Iraqi oil to pay for the war. Saddam couldn't comply to things that weren't there.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
"Whether we found WMDs or not is not relevant. No one knew for sure until we invade." Glad you weren't around advising Pres. Kennedy during the 'Cuban Missle Crisis,' or the entire Eastern seabord would be gone today. Your "red herring" that the Dems "hate Bush" is getting old. They disagree w/ the GOPs & the Bush adms.' POLICIES, b/c they threaten to destroy the foundations on which the U.S. stands.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
No, disagreement is one thing. They HATE Bush because he beat them TWICE. Manufacturing scandal after scandal with the Liberal media buddies. You fail to understand how 9-11 changed the way we need to view the world.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Will never be in agreement b/c you think the Dems manufacture scandal after scandal even though evidence proves this notion otherwise. The way you view the world after 9/11 is obviously wrong b/c Bush's War on Terror is flawed and valuable resources are being diverted unwisely. All the things John Kerry said in 2004,i.e. we need international support to fight terror, it's more of a police problem than a military one, were correct & that's how the Brits. foiled their recent terrorists attacks.
cvjucla3 4 years ago

His father got him to the top of the Natl Guard Registry where he not only didn't go to Viet Nam, busy keeping the Viet Cong out of Mississippi, AND was then AWOL for his final year there.
shaire99 4 years ago
Fact, the documents were forged in order to influence the outcome of an election. Bush has served and was never AWOL. Hatred is such a blinding thing!
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
To this very day, the Bushites cannot verify that he was even there at all in his last 11 months. He didn't even report for his final physical and never informed them that he wasn't going to. It's not that hard to actually find out facts before stating an opinion.
shaire99 4 years ago
Was he charged with desertion or with being AWOL? NO! Were the documents used to make this accusation forged? YES! Did Rather lose his job over making this false accusation? YES! Maybe you should deal in facts and stop stating opinions.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
The whole Rather episode is a distraction from the fact that BUSH was AWOL for almost 11 months from the guard. I think you're getting your info from Faux News, which is not news. Read the record of Bush's lack of service. There are more than 30 requirements which Bush did not fulfill and would have generated a paper trail. DIDN'T Happen.
shaire99 4 years ago
I just realized I said Mississippi, it was Alabama that Bush was supposed to defend and failed to do so. He got another chance to defend them in the Katrina debacle and failed them once again!!!! 'A heckuva job you're doing there Brownie!'. Uh huh
shaire99 4 years ago
This is just so typical of the blind hatred of liberals like you towards our commander in chief. Bush is one of the bravest presidents of this century. You hate him because he does not kowtow to your atheist agenda.
victor190779 4 years ago
Thank you, Helmut Kohl.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
Bush could not be more stupid and inarticulate, defending the absolute indefensible, claiming wrong is right, black is white. It has truly been a surreal period in our history that will unquestionably go down as the Darkest Period in our country's history. AND further, I'm not impressed with a Chickenhawk president who dodged going to Viet Nam by going AWOL from the Natl Guard that his Daddy got him into.
shaire99 4 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Actually, he will be remember as one of our greatest Presidents because he dealt with terrorism when others like Clinton hid from it.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
That's a bizarre statement since Clinton actually did try to take out Bin Laden, handed over intelligence reports emphasizing the role of al Qaeda in the region to Bush and Bush did NOTHING. Not just kind of nothing but ACTUALLY NOTHING until after we were hit. A little too little and a lot too late. 911 happened during the Bush Presidency not Clinton's.
shaire99 4 years ago
Not bizarre when you look at the facts. Clinton never did "try" take out Bin Laden. There was never a "KILL ORDER" given. Look at the number of attacks we suffered under Clinton, with virtually no response except the launching of a few missiles at the wrong targets. Since 9-11 we have not been attacked. That is a FACT!
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Wrong targets? Oh that's classic! BUSH AND CHENEY INVADED THE WRONG COUNTRY!!!!!!!! A country that had nothing to do with terrorism and which has now become literally a breeding ground for terrorists. Not seeing a problem with that? Doesn't bother you to be lied to and deceived by your govt? More of a soldier than anyone deserves, however, something about your posts tells me you never served either. Just talked.
shaire99 4 years ago
First, Iraq was the right country to invade for many reasons. They had links to terrorism. That is a fact. I was not lied to or deceived by my government. Finally, whether or not I served as a soldier or not, is immaterial to the debate.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
By INVADING THE WRONG COUNTRY, we've created a breeding ground for terrorism, destroyed the infrastructure of a country (NO Haliburton hasn't restored it), killed hundreds of thousands of innocent victims, maimed more than a million, killed 4000 of our own guys and there is NO report linking Iraq to terrorism. Just because CRAZY CHENEY says it doesn't make it true!
shaire99 4 years ago
First, Iraq was already a breeding ground for terrorism since Gulf War 1. Second, their infrastructure was destroyed during the first war and left most in disrepair. Third, we have not killed "hundreds of thousands". Fourth, we have seized documents in Iraq that describe their relationship to terrorism.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Already a breeding ground? That's an Absurd statement. Under Saddam, Iraq was a breeding ground for terrorists? Sooo absurd that no more discussion is necessary. Enjoy the delusion Dorothy!
shaire99 4 years ago
I am very interested in seeing these "documents." Would you be kind enough to let me know where I can find them? Last time I checked, the administration backed away from the link between Iraq and the original Al Queda that attacked us.
ToriAmos1963 4 years ago
I never said they linked Iraq directly to Al Queda. I said they had ties to terrorism. Even the 9-11 commission said there was evidence of Iraqi ties to terrorism, just not to "operational involvement" with 9-11.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Ties = there was guys in a area of Iraq that Saddam didnt have much control of? Shit we had much more ties to Al Queda then Iraq did.
drunkdecoy 4 years ago
"Launching of a few missiles?" Actually, it was 75, the largest US attack on any terrorist group up to that time. The Afghan target was the main al-Qaeda training camp, and missed bin Laden by a few hours. How many strikes did Bush carry out during the 8 months prior to 9-11? Zero. What was the Bush response to the attack on the Cole? Nonexistent.
thucy2 4 years ago
thank you, well put . . .
shaire99 4 years ago
He dealt w/ terrorism as a cause to go to war. And I wouldn't be proud at the way he has conducted and executed that war. I swear if you saw Bush smoking crack, you'd still some how spin that as well.
cvjucla3 4 years ago
Bush is pathological.
eastwood13 4 years ago 2
He was not there to represent the PEOPLE. He was Attorney General serving the President. What the Democrats have done to this man is unconscionable. We have not been attacked here at home because of his hard work and willingness to fight for OUR SECURITY.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Not there to represent the People? Well that's a new one under the constitution. His job is EXACTLY to represent the people and not to play puppet to the Executive Branch. And he did that poorly. Do you honestly think he resigned because his feelings were hurt at the way he was treated? Ridiculous!
shaire99 4 years ago
He resigned because he could no longer do the job he wanted to do. Endless hearings about nothing. Accusations being treated like evidence. Scandals being invented by the Democrats and echoed by the media. He worked for the President who appointed him to protect the people. He did it well in a difficult time.
4951WEDDEL 4 years ago
Hearings about nothing? Really? And here the world is thinking it was about a breach of our constitution, a breach of the separation of powers. Politicization of the Judiciary. AND LYING. Obfuscating and conveniently forgetting anything that didn't fit Bush's agenda. See, I thought those things weren't 'nothing'. What parts of our constitution would you like to ignore and abuse next?
shaire99 4 years ago 2
Let me give you one example: The firing of the US Attorneys. Every US Attorney serves at the pleasure of the President who appointed them. He can ask for their resignation ANYTIME for ANY reason HE WANTS. The Congress does not run the Justice Department. It is part of the EXECUTIVE BRANCH. That is in the Constitution.
