tom is not a good one for this part. i think that the guy from Thor would do him justice. just like jackman was six feet and wolverine is five foot three. readers want to see what they see while they read the books. i see a mastive six foot five guy that wont take crap from anybody. Book Reacher only carries, cash, toothbrush, passport, a bank card and buys new clothes when needed. Film Reacher carries the above but also 7" high heeled man boots so he can talk face to face with normal sized people. I heard the screen play has been re-visioned as "one shot" at getting Reacher's boots re-heeled before the bad guys catch up with him and laugh there ass off at the little midget!
Ok I was shocked when I first heard Tom Cruise is going to play Jack Reacher and annoyed. Yes the guy looks nothing like Reacher but he can act and is loved by many. Mission Impossible has been a big hit so I think the casting directors either thought he could pull this off as well or it has something to do with his power in Hollywood. Films rarely do novels justice but it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Cruise as Reacher was a huge disappointment. I feel that Lee Child sold out to get the big name for his film adaptation. I've read all the books and even if Cruise does an academy performance, he will not be the Reacher we've all pictured in our minds all these years. Guess that's show biz. So I'll continue with the image I have as I read future Reacher works. Absolutely love the books. Child is an incredible author - just not great at casting.
Tom Cruise is a fine actor. He is not, however, Jack Reacher material. Cruise is short, pretty and boasts a mid range voice, not muscular, not safe and dangerous looking at the same time. Tom Cruise is all American. On the other hand, Jon Hamm is over 6 feet. He has a deep voice has a dangerous quality about him. He can be moody and reflective...Tom Cruise is neither of these things. Hamm can loom forbidably. Tom Cruise is not Reacher.

Cruise will bring the protagonist Reacher to MILLIONS of people. thanks to Cruise now Reacher will be going mainstream.
