@PhillyBoy264 Well, there's only guessing to it. In the 'Old Rivals' trailer you can definitely see a marking on the stone of a Zerg/Protoss hybrid, like Duran has made. The question is though are those Xel'naga, or is it the next step in the evolution; combining the two races they created into one superior race? I guess we'll get a few steps closer on July 27th :)

Mengsk is still Emperor.

The Zerg actually took quite a big hit during the Brood War, and the Protoss only have Shakuras, that one snow planet, and small parts of Aiur.

All sides pretty much retreated after the UED left.

I think SC2 takes place 10 or 15 years after the end of Brood War.

Actually, if tyou listen carefully and if that is trully Raynor onscreen, it is possible to be a flashback from Starcraft 1 when Mengsk abandoned Kerrigan to the Zerg.

If he had never left kerrigan she would not have been taken by the overmind and made into the queen of blades.

The leaving kerrigan behind also sparked raynors leaving which in wol may cause him his down fall.

i think he left her behind because he didnt think an evac would save her life since she was already surrounded. Plus he didnt want to risk anymore of his men or his precious fleet because if the zerg were massing on her position- chances are mutalisks and scourges were not far behind and im not even gonna touch the protoss carriers.

And to be fair- he DID for back for her when she was in the chrysalis. she telepathically called out to him and raynor- and both made an effort to get her back

I dont know if this is the reason, but she was one of 3 ghost that killed his dad.

He got revenge on the other two but had kerrigan join the sons of koral, maybe it was his finale revenge since she served her purpose.

Again not sure if thats why, but that may be a factor in him abondoning her.

i did some research and i think there is a high probability that duran is working against the Xel'Naga, that he makes the opposite of the Xel;Naga merging (he seems to be creating a creature that has the Zerg form and the Protoss Essence). and in the lore there is an entity that lives within the VOID, (you can read about it in the frontline 4 manga of starcraft).

i think he can be a survivor of the previous Xel;Naga Cycle, and now wants revenge upon them. just a theory

@ShakurasWitch Hybrids and Xel'Naga will not play a "major" role in Wings of Liberty, but it is the backbone of the starcraft 2 main plot. So some "events" will start happening in Wings of Liberty, then it is going to conclude in Legacy of the Void.

The signs of this BIG COSMIC EVENT (whatever it will exactly be) were there all along in the original Starcraft and some of the books. Now we will finally see the whole picture.

But i really like the rebellion style terran campaign.

this clip was one of the best I've seen of SC2 so far. Not only did it redo one of the best scenes from the original SC in amazing detail, but it also showed how people communicated on the Hyperion, how raynor used to look, and the stuff with the watch and the background were just sublime. I simply cannot wait to see the entire thing.
