Ricky Morton looks like a shapeless midget. No muscle tone at all. Having him manhandles the much taller and bigger Ric Flair is such an improbable scenario.
@tattooedtrillionaire Ricky Morton's job was getting the shit kicked out of him. He was so good at playing the plucky babyface in peril that the insider term for it is "playing Ricky Morton"
@tattooedtrillionaire Rey Misterio beat Kevin Nash, its pro wrestling, and perhaps Flair was just roping him in for later so the kid would get over confident.
Lemmie tell you, at this point in time, there was no man alive more excited and happy to do a job then David Crockett. Watch him here..he's loving what he's seeing.
Man, I grew up on WWF and a little NWA, WCCW, and AWA as a kid in 1986-88 and I gotta say, I wish things were like they were then. When you could be a mark and just enjoy it as real (or at least suspend you disbelief that it was fake). Wrestling has really suffered since fans smartened up. Internet smarks review matches based on how many leglocks and chain moves were used, instead of just enjoying the ride. I mean, look at the fans jump and freak out when Morton punches Flair.Over a punch!!
@MrHoopsFanatic Gibson didn't help his partner out because they were super babyfaces. No shades of gray back then. It would be bad guy behavior to double team Flair like that. I love 80s wrestling.
This is when you are a kid and you are jumping out of your seats to see whats next.and titles meant something.wwe take notes because it only takes 1 organization to get a clue, and your done.
jus another reason why flair is the best ever... his ability to be potray his real persona of the man with the BIGGEST ego YET hav the proffesional sense as a businessman and as just an all around class act like bockwinkle (as if nick compares, sorry bocky baby ur no flair but u were one classy son of a bitch) to put guys over... flair was the best at making a guy look awesome
Morton was a gamer and Flair knew it. Ricky could've worked on his body a little more, but still, the dude could go all night and he gave Flair a series of 1 hour matches for the ages back then. Also, the Rock 'n' Roll Express is one of the greatest and most exciting tag teams in pro wrestling history...
wtf why can't TNA b like this???? TNA needs 2 take a look at the Watt's regime and Georgia Championship Wrestling and emulate that product... they already have a more reliable fanbase in the south than the north so they might as well just go for an old school hardcore southern style show with real wrestling and less blah blah blah time
@XBlackOut54X I agree. Flair's best skills were promos and putting the other guy over in matches. He was (hate to say it) overrated as an in ring wrestler. He was good, but certainly no Bret Hart. Many of his matches were the same.
Oversell much, Flair? No way in hell that little slap from Morton could have knocked a grown man on his ass. Hell, it wouldn't have knocked a toddler on his ass!
@hawkinn39 It was the 80s, man. You didn't have to have the WWF steroid clone look to succeed. You had to have charisma and talent. A team like the Rock n Roll Express couldn't make it today unless that had close cropped hair, shaved, oily, muscular pecs, and maybe a lot of tribal tattoos covering their backs, shoulders and even their chests. Of course, they'd also have to lose all their talent and charisma to make it today.
@arkie74 no more...its all gone...the days of actual psycology and integrity among wresters and fans...i know alot off ppl especially in u.s dont like bret hart but watch his documentary wrestling w/ shadows its really good
Rick Flair is not a big man. I saw him last night at the Titans game. Im guessing 5'11 and around 230? Not fat though. Very much in shape for a 61 year old man.
The good ol' days of wrestling! Wish we could be there again. And, who the hell cares how tall Flair actually is/was (previous comments)? There was nobody like him in his day. People don't give the Rock and Roll Express much respect anymore, but their hard work, and especially some of their matches were legendary.
Not a chance in hell...that would make Ric Flair a legit 6'2....ain't no way in hell Flair is even close to 6'2. I met the man and shook his hand and i'm 6'1 and i had AT LEAST 3 inches on Flair, which would make him 5'10.
@quazimutato agreed i met Flair a few times shook his hand too and he not close to 6' he a big guy like a football player and in shape 4 his age but he not over 5'10" at the most.
how dare you put your hands on the legend ric flair and destroy his property, now you know you gotta pay for that 4 horsemen style = get carried out on a strecher
I can't get over how loud this crowd is. Probably a couple of hundred people going more ballistic than any WWE crowd I've seen lately, with no pyro and light shows to egg them on. Just two dudes talkin' trash, kickin' ass, and the crowd goes wild!
i think david crockett always had a man cruch on flair look at that smile he loves fliar haha or maybe he new he had the best wrestler and mic person ever
@DGuillen74 That's what separated him from everyone else. He spent half of his TV time making someone else look good by getting his butt kicked after insulting them. It wasn't all about how he could look good.
@jaymr do not get me wrong I agree with you. I just meant talent wise. No matter how over they were, I am sure no one would have wanted Morton having a run as the World Heavyweight champion. Ricky's RnR finishing move was a doubledropkick and he could not even throw a good dropkick. I just never saw much talent in Morton and he benefited from a home run image with the tights, rags, and mullet.
1st of all, Hogan would have never let Ricky Morton whip his ass on live tv. His ego wouldnt allow it. Hogan just wanted 2 beat every1 all the time. He was barely decent on the mic and worse in the ring. Flair was a true performer and knew how 2 entertain in any situation. He could give a good ass kickin and could take one as well. His mic skills were 2nd to none.
@ReALiTeeChEkk I agree. Hogan couldn't and still can't hold a torch to Flair. Flair was always the better performer, On Flair's worst day he could still out wrestle Hogan.
@RS1963 , yep, Flair wrestled Abyss just a few days ago and did things that Hogan literally couldnt do in his prime lol. Hogan wasnt as good at wrestling as MOST wrestlers, especially not Flair. Flair also redefined the art of cutting a promo. Is he not the reason there are "catch phrases" in wrestling today ? " wooooooo " , "2 be the man u have 2 beat the man", "i'm a limousine ridin', jet flyin, ........ " Was any1 doing that kind of stuff b4 him ?
@ReALiTeeChEkk Ric is certainly the better wrestler. There were others before Flair that did some of the same things. Flair himself will tell you a lot of his style comes from the Original Nature Boy Buddy Rogers. Buddy wore flashy sequined robes to the ring did the Woo's as well. Flair certainly added to that style and made it his own. To borrow from one of Ric's phrases "No matter if you like him or you don't. Ric flair is the best thing going in Professional wrestling today!"
@RS1963, yeah i knew he copied some things from Buddy Rogers, but didnt know the " woooo" was 1 of them. I started watching pro wrestling around 1979-1980 so i havent seen much of Buddy Rogers. I still think Ric deserves alot of credit 4 the catch phrase craze in wrestling 2day though. Like alot of people, i enjoyed watching Stone Cold and The Rock, but nothing was like watching Flair back in his prime.
@ReALiTeeChEkk To be honest the only reason I knew The woo was from Rogers is due Ric saying so in his book. Otherwise I would have assumed otherwise as well. I too think that most of the Phrases he has or does use are his. Who else but Slick Ric could pull off 'Lear jet, flying, Limo Riding Son of a Gun!" Or "Come Ride Space Mountain!" better than Flair?
@playboydig12 , well its just a matter of opinion but i personally would give the edge 2 flair on the mic over those 2. But dusty was one of my favorites and jerry lawler is my all time favorite wrestler. I watched him rule memphis every week when i was a kid. They made it seem so real back then. Every wrestler that ever made it big came thru memphis. I saw u mention the tupelo concession stand brawl lol now that was cool as hell and had never been done b4. I'll never 4get watching that.
@ReALiTeeChEkk Are you from Memphis like me? I watched faithfully every Saturday morning. We lived close enought to WALK to the Coliseum on Monday nights. Lawler's interviews were CLASSIC. He had one-liners galore, still does. Flair Rhodes, and Lawler are EASILY the best promo cutters of all time. Those guys could sell water to a whale. And I concede, it IS a matter of opinion.
@playboydig12 , im from kentucky but it came on every saturday here 2. My dad and grandfather watched pro wrestling so i was hooked at an early age. Started watching it around 1979-1980. Lawler, Dundee, Handsome Jimmy, Dutch Mantell, Austin Idol, Joe Leduc, Gilbert Family, Moondogs, Jimmy Hart & Jim Cornette,RocknRoll Express, The Fabs, Midnight Express, Tommy Rich, Tojo Yamamoto, & of course Lance Russell and Dave Brown. Just a few of my favorites i remember. Yes those were the days.
@playboydig12 , guys like us got 2 see Wayne Ferris way b4 the Honkey Tonk Man days lol You was lucky 2 live so close. My dad would take me 2 see it in Rupp Arena when it came. I could name wrestlers from back then all night long & im sure u could 2. Until youtube came around i just had memories but now i get 2 see alot of footage from back then on here.
I love how Ric would come out in those days and start with various wrestlers in the NWA in that interview section.....RnR Express was insanely popular back then as well
David Crockett was a terrible announcer...his random screamings nearly blew out my speakers
its a shame ricky mortans carrer didnt continue but so far, he was a very good wrestler and i used to love watching the rock n roll express as a kid, they were one of the all time great tag teams...nwa was the best!
When I was little I could never figure out how Rics momentum always seemed to defy the laws of physics & take him out of the ring over the top turnbuckle. At least he always had the presence of mind to save some time & allow his opponents to suplex him back in again : )
Yeah I remember a letter to Pro Wrestling Illustrated that said the reason that Hogan got over better than Flair was that Hogan beat everybody while Flair took on tag team people like Morton and Hawk.
Interesting point. But Morton was hot in many territories. And Hawk was hot wolrd wide. Least in my opinion was WWF promoted while NWA was hot but didn't have the same promotion. Not quitelarger than life charactors.
Hey I love memphis wrestling and Lawler as much as the next guy, but he couldn't even imagine doing the things Flair did on a national and international stage. Sure Lawler could fill the mid-south. It was his home. But before cable TV Lawler couldn't draw flies to a fresh pile of cow shit anywhere outside of mempho. When Jarrett promotions joined with some other territories in 1984 to try and keep vince out of the South, Lawler got tons of exposure on TBS.
@RogPnn That's just it, Lawler didn't have the exposure that Flair had. Flair was NWA champ, which meant he got to travel and show his ring and mic skills, while Lawler wasn't afforded the same opportunity. No matter how good you are, exposure is key. BUT after cable came to the forefront, Lawler's kingdom expanded greatly, as evidenced by a company like ECW carbon-copying Memphis', i.e. Lawler's "hardcore" style. The 'Tupelo concession stand' thing was Lawler's invention. He changed the game.
what !!! yes jerry the king was good but flair was the best ever on the mic and putting so many people over. like him or not he stands alone at the top !!!

Oh man...I remember this like it was yesterday.
The good 'ol days will never be that good again.

ReALiTeeChEkk 1 year ago 2
@ReALiTeeChEkk I agree. Hogan couldn't and still can't hold a torch to Flair. Flair was always the better performer, On Flair's worst day he could still out wrestle Hogan.
RS1963 1 year ago
@RS1963 , yep, Flair wrestled Abyss just a few days ago and did things that Hogan literally couldnt do in his prime lol. Hogan wasnt as good at wrestling as MOST wrestlers, especially not Flair. Flair also redefined the art of cutting a promo. Is he not the reason there are "catch phrases" in wrestling today ? " wooooooo " , "2 be the man u have 2 beat the man", "i'm a limousine ridin', jet flyin, ........ " Was any1 doing that kind of stuff b4 him ?
ReALiTeeChEkk 1 year ago
@ReALiTeeChEkk Ric is certainly the better wrestler. There were others before Flair that did some of the same things. Flair himself will tell you a lot of his style comes from the Original Nature Boy Buddy Rogers. Buddy wore flashy sequined robes to the ring did the Woo's as well. Flair certainly added to that style and made it his own. To borrow from one of Ric's phrases "No matter if you like him or you don't. Ric flair is the best thing going in Professional wrestling today!"
RS1963 1 year ago
@RS1963, yeah i knew he copied some things from Buddy Rogers, but didnt know the " woooo" was 1 of them. I started watching pro wrestling around 1979-1980 so i havent seen much of Buddy Rogers. I still think Ric deserves alot of credit 4 the catch phrase craze in wrestling 2day though. Like alot of people, i enjoyed watching Stone Cold and The Rock, but nothing was like watching Flair back in his prime.
ReALiTeeChEkk 1 year ago
@ReALiTeeChEkk To be honest the only reason I knew The woo was from Rogers is due Ric saying so in his book. Otherwise I would have assumed otherwise as well. I too think that most of the Phrases he has or does use are his. Who else but Slick Ric could pull off 'Lear jet, flying, Limo Riding Son of a Gun!" Or "Come Ride Space Mountain!" better than Flair?
RS1963 1 year ago
@RS1963 , yeah i never did get his book. I need 2 pick that up sometime.

@ReALiTeeChEkk Everything you said about Naitch is true, except his mic skills. His promos were THIRD to Dusty Rhodes' and Jerry Lawler's.
playboydig12 1 year ago
@playboydig12 , well its just a matter of opinion but i personally would give the edge 2 flair on the mic over those 2. But dusty was one of my favorites and jerry lawler is my all time favorite wrestler. I watched him rule memphis every week when i was a kid. They made it seem so real back then. Every wrestler that ever made it big came thru memphis. I saw u mention the tupelo concession stand brawl lol now that was cool as hell and had never been done b4. I'll never 4get watching that.
ReALiTeeChEkk 1 year ago
@ReALiTeeChEkk Are you from Memphis like me? I watched faithfully every Saturday morning. We lived close enought to WALK to the Coliseum on Monday nights. Lawler's interviews were CLASSIC. He had one-liners galore, still does. Flair Rhodes, and Lawler are EASILY the best promo cutters of all time. Those guys could sell water to a whale. And I concede, it IS a matter of opinion.
playboydig12 1 year ago

Did you see that awesome snap bump he took on the floor off of that punch! Awesome!

When I was little I could never figure out how Rics momentum always seemed to defy the laws of physics & take him out of the ring over the top turnbuckle. At least he always had the presence of mind to save some time & allow his opponents to suplex him back in again : )

what do you mean?
binka21 2 years ago
why do you say that?
binka21 1 year ago
Yeah I remember a letter to Pro Wrestling Illustrated that said the reason that Hogan got over better than Flair was that Hogan beat everybody while Flair took on tag team people like Morton and Hawk.
yardlet6 1 year ago

RogPnn 2 years ago
@RogPnn That's just it, Lawler didn't have the exposure that Flair had. Flair was NWA champ, which meant he got to travel and show his ring and mic skills, while Lawler wasn't afforded the same opportunity. No matter how good you are, exposure is key. BUT after cable came to the forefront, Lawler's kingdom expanded greatly, as evidenced by a company like ECW carbon-copying Memphis', i.e. Lawler's "hardcore" style. The 'Tupelo concession stand' thing was Lawler's invention. He changed the game.
playboydig12 1 year ago
what !!! yes jerry the king was good but flair was the best ever on the mic and putting so many people over. like him or not he stands alone at the top !!!
