This is my favorite video footage of a rider working with a horse. I watch it every so often to: soothe my soul,: send it to inspre friends; and dream of working with Sr. Morales...
@farmgirl188 The reins are attached to a belt he is wearing and he uses them for some control from his hips but his leg ques and seat are doing most of the work to control the horse.
"wow" en stereo. Espectacular.
@ramsesneilsoto SI TE REFIERES AL VIDEO DE LA GAROCHA , SE SUELE UTILIZAR SOLO EN EL CAMPO PARA LAS RESES DEL CAMPO ,SOBRE TODO EN TOROS Y VACAS BRABAS , SE UTILIZA LA GAROCHA PARA DERIBAR EL GANADO¡¡
I found this video very impressive and incredably motivating. Stunning, delicate, etc etc.
It absolutely takes skill from rider and horse to do something like this. Every shift of his center must be very intentional. The other riders will understand what i'm saying, and the ignorant critics won't, so i won't bother justifying myself.
This is an amazing display of team work. I can only dream of being this good of a horsewoman. The trust displayed by both horse and rider inspires me.

Some just have a disposition for such events, thats why they are bred for that too. When they do what comes naturally, then they are truly happy. You have no idea how they enjoy their natural dispostion, that's why they are PROUD horse!!!
Well, if you look carefully you can see that he is not using his hands to control his horse. Just his bodyweight and his legs. THAT IS SKILL. I think that this sort of riding is really inspiring and should be looked at in a godd sort of light and not dissed. Thanks for posting loved every minute of it. Xxx

I wonder how this horse can breath having to walk around like this. Poor horse can look only at the ground. I whish they would ty the rider with his chin on his chest and make him walk around like that for half an hour, maybe he would understand.
lmao, mind you the horse has a longer and more flexible neck than the rider. Obviously. Besides, if a horse wouldnt like it he would have thrown of his rider and beaten him to a bloody pulp already :P But ok i do understand it might look a bit crazy / harmful if you dont know about horses.
What would that horse get for throwing him off? A light pat and "Thats alright"? Its testing of his "flexibility" and possibilites of body. And for me that horse seemed depressed... trying despairingly to do everything... If he is such a pro could he do that with nothing or halter on the horse? No spurs?
I would start with.. a horse (which i dont have)...:D and a natural collection, which the horse controlls (including the lenght of collection). Let the horse shine in his own unque beauty without a bridle and bit...
it really fuckin annoys me when people say such pig ignorant things like you just did.... you dont understand this, so dont try and blag it and come out with bollocks. horses like that are so sharp that a numnut like you wouldnt even be able to get it to walk forwards.
You sound like a kid wo goes to a lesson once a week with some parelli freak. The trick to being one with your horse is not in the tack (or lack of) ANYONE who rides and has a connection with their horse can do anything they put their mind to. It is NOT mean to use a bit unless it is used incorrectly.
Untill you compete at the highest level can you even think of telling someone what to do.
Just for your information, when I visisted Jesus in Cordoba, Spain, Jesus let Halcon (horse in video) out of his stall and Jesus took off running and Halcon ran along side Jesus and then Jesus stopped and Jesus started clicking with his mouth and Halcon started doing the Piaffer with absolutely no aids just him standing along side him...so their is your answer to using a "harsh bit".
I cannot believe that there are actually people not seing how harsh and mean the bit is and how stressed that horse is , look at his tail movement , he is in a head lock because he has no choice because of that bit in his mouth ... what is the beauty in that ???? anybody, I mean anybody can do that with such bit, can this guy do it with the horse in a halter ???? I wish he could show us then his skills and how he can do this with his seat ??? anyone ???
¡Excelente cátedra de doma vaquera! (For those who have criticized the collected neck of the horse in the opening stage, I have to tell you that you don't have a clue. It takes a lifetime of training to build a neck like that, and it improves the performance and health of the horse.)
Jesus Morales is a great friend of mind...he is an ex-rejornado (mounted Bullfighter) he is riding his 16 plus year espano-arabe only 14 hands tall. I spend a week taking lessons from him in la montiela (outside of Cordoba spain)...super great guy to learn friend.
I would like to see any Grand Prix dressage rider able to do a fraction of the work that Jesus Morales is doing here, and that is one hot little Hispano, not a tractible warmblood!
This is consummate skill and if any so called 'dressage rider' cannot see the art in this performance, then competition dressage is even further down the swannee than I feared.

The horses' head position would have been ok if the horse had been trained properly. As is the horse is no where near coming under and is dragging itself around on the for hand. This is why the horse looks choppy and the gaits and movement are not consistant throughout. Nice trick pony though. It would be nice to see a rider at the other end of the pole and have them riding in tandom.
No more critical elitist bunch of people than many dressage riders.
Fortunatly for me I ride dressage also but am able to keep my head out of my ass and head out of the clouds so I can enjoy and appreciate a video of an awsome horse and rider like this. To bad you can't....what a loss.
This horse is trained for his discipline, not for dressage. He don't need to have a perfect head position and everything. He his perfectly trained and shaped for the work he need to do !
This training is not meant to be pretty and fashionable. The horses are trained this way to work cattle (and they use it in bullfighting, look up Merlin's video)- They have a job! And if the riders/trainers can make a little money on exibition then I say go for it!
I would love to see you post a video showing us the "right" way to do it. In my eyes it may not be a finished horse, but he's on his way and does some really nice things. Can't wait to see your video Spekal011001!!
You obviously don't know what the rider and horse are doing. The horse is supposed to be collected like that. Don't be critical unless you know the subject matter.
What a magnificent performance! I had never seen (or heard of) Garrocha before--Who is the rider? Where is it filmed? Is there more of this performance?
Hey there, the man in the vid. is called Jesus Moralez, he's the absolute top in the art of La Garrocha and a friend of mine. He lives in southern Spain and travells world wide with his act. One of the nicest people in the business. If you're interested of more equestrian skills check out this URL. Rockin'Horse The Show and leave us a comment!

Yes, he is wearing spurs which is traditional to this type of riding. Also notice that his leg only moves when it is his INTENTION to move it. This is because his seat is totally independent and his legs are quiet. Competitive dressage "experts" should learn from this. The spur is meant to refine the aids. He does not use them all the time. Hopefully, this art will not be lost. Best Wishes, Carol Popp
The beauty of this performance is that the horse responds to the seat and weight aids of the rider. This is what "classical" means. The weight aid is the only aid that does not inflict pain on the horse. Classical riding has been done this way for centuries because it is based upon use of the horse while handling a weapon. Carol Popp
Off all the videos i have just seen, this is truly magnificent. both horse and rider communicating to create a beautiful dance. this is truly a special relationship. wow, who knew there was something more exciting than dressage. these two have brought horsemanship to a new level. such a dance only means a treacherous ending for a bull. can you hunt down more video of this team?
Humm... horse very tense, bit very hard, even if not touching the reins, the horse feel very well this taugh bit. The tail is always manifesting, the horse is very shortened by the reins, his has no choice, I would have preferred a more freedom for the head. I am sure the horse is not very happy beeing ridden this way.. but he's juste accepting it.. the no other way, I guess his mental has been put down to the grass (I am not english mother tongue, hope you understand !)
he is collected from the hind legs forward. this takes softness, and time. his head is not forced in any way, but in a naturally collected frame as a result of the hind quarters being under him.
If this was truly great horsemanship, the horses head would not have to be tied to the saddle in such a restrictive way. Consider Natural Horsemanship.
Define natural horsemanship. This is how wild horses move at times of excitement.Riding is an extreme activity that the horse should be collected to carry the weight, not moving as if they were grazing or just traveling along on their own. Also the head is not tied to the saddle, the reins are tied to the riders waist.I wish my seat was secure enough to be able to do that. The horses are trained to cary themselves propperly over many years with very light toutch untill they get to this point.
This is true dressage. Never touching the reins, because there is no need. Beautiful display of true communication through position and balance. Makes 'modern' "olympic" dressage look amature.
hmmm...I may want to re-think my last statement. I'm not quite sure, but it looks like the reins are attatched to the rider's belt. That's very interesting, I've never seen anything like that. Okay, so it's not like he's bridle-less, but that horse is still amazingly sensative and obediant. Not to mention he's a cute little guy.
I never mentioned holding onto the reins for balanced :) I was just impressived of his skill and training of the horse, lovely self carriage the horse has :)
This is my favorite video footage of a rider working with a horse. I watch it every so often to: soothe my soul,: send it to inspre friends; and dream of working with Sr. Morales...

That was truly amazing, he wasn't even holding onto the reins in the canter!
SJgirl01 5 years ago
He's not holding the reins at all at any time.
blkgryphon 5 years ago 3
Yes but he was going alot faster in the canter than the walk and trot
SJgirl01 5 years ago
if you have to hold on the reins for balance at the c
canter, you're probably pulling on the horse's mouth
