Hmmm. So the Obama administration supports a president who violates his country's constitution to further his personal political fortunes. We need to keep a close eye on Mr. Obama.

She is just a shill...if people researched the issue in Honduras..it wouldn't take long to realize it WAS NOT A COUP, the outed president BROKE THE LAW.
You know what your problem is: mind your own fucking business - its their country not ours. How many fucking wars do you think we can afford? How many familily members do you have in Iraq? Go fuck your stupid asshole brain- sick of paying for your goddam tiny prick - get over it and shove your ego up your ass
Ms. Maddow, you're way out of line on this one. First off, suggesting that someone commits treason by encouraging others to resist U.S. intrusions is, well, remeniscent of the Bush era. And besides, the Honduran coup was entirely in accordance with the Honduran Constitution. After several courts ruled against the president of Honduras, and after the president unconstitutionally sought another term anyway, the Honduran Supreme Court unanimously issued a detention order against him.
I believe the demopublicians did the same thing in earlier administrations, in fact I think hilary did it. All of this travel,of course, is at the cost of the citizens of this country.
Hmm maybe Demint knows the evils of our own lieing scamming gov and their bid for the north american union hmmm maybe just maybe this is that countries last ditch effort to keep their own soverienty )o
Since Obama sees nothing wrong with a leader trying to change the Constitution of his own country to benefit his own ambitions, Obama would try the same thing with the Constitution of the U.S.
I see something wrong with Obama and Chavez agreeing with each other.
What if the people who are elected to represent the citizens of their country(politicians) votes for policies and pass laws that are obviously detrimental to that country. Their leader was obviously trying to violate their constitution; so the citizens acted to protect it. Here in america we protest violations to our constitution. In other countries they do as abraham lincoln did and fight to protect their civil liberties.
Zelaya hadn't actually done anything yet. He had the potential to do something, but unfortunately the law requires you to have actually done something, to be prosecuted for it.
Not saying he's a nice guy, he's actually a lot like Bush. Trample the constitution, amass power, stomp on your adversaries... I could go on and on.
I have a differing opinion on America... here we can't pull our eyes away from 'American Idol' long enough to realize our constitution is being trashed. Total apathy.
Yeah, they got permission because McConnell pulled some strings.
He was blocked because he's purposely holding up confirmation of some administration appointees, then he crybabied to McConnell who pulled rank and got him permission through the Defense Committee.
Still doesn't mean his actions will not be treasonous... we'll just have to wait and see.
Chalk it up to MSNBC once again for fabricating rumors.
Treason: 1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign. 2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state. 3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
None of the above have been violated. Nice mind trick associating something "military" & outside US as if it world have an impact upon national security. May as well be about the price of bananas.
Maybe you should read #2 again bud... though mostly #3.
The policy of the U.S. (and the rest of the world) toward Honduras is that Zalaya be restored (with limited powers) and 'then' elections be held... any elections held while the current democratically-elected leader is in exile will not be recognized.
The interim government is leaning toward doing this, and DeMint and his cronies are going to advise them against it.
They are sabotaging the foreing policy of the U.S. government. TREASON
Speaking of hubris and mind tricks... Your definition #3 seems to apply. It sounds to me that you've decided to defend a Republican, right or wrong. You need to answer the question, What is a South Carolina senator doing in Honduras meeting with a government that the U.S. doesn't recognize as legitimate? I'll bet you'd have something to say if Barney Frank was meeting with Hamas. De facto hypocrite.
new ameriKa's involvement is nothing more than our socialist baby boo president and cronies supporting another socialist pres' at the expense of Honduran rule of law. But you know that already.
You socialist can't help lying. Honduras wasn't a military coup. Their constitution states a pres' can serve 1 one term as pres', 1 term. Ousted Pres' Zelaya tried to establish a poll for 28 June adding a ballot box to the Nov election to convene an assembly to rewrite their constitution. Various legal bodies declared the poll unlawful. On 26 June their Supreme Court issued a detention order for Zelaya. On 28 June, 2 DAYS AFTER THE COURT ORDERED HIS ARREST, troops entered his residence. Liar.
Congress has right to go to foreign countries as long as they don't undermine foreign policy. However, DeMint is trying to undermine US policy by encouraging the coup leader to defy the USA. That seems borderline treasonous.
DeMInt is the worst South Carolina Senator ... yes, even worth than Lindsay Graham.
But he can be defeated in 2010 if the Dems put up a candidate who'll stress how he's been in the pocket of the Insurance Companies & has worked against the US govt.
The Constitution of the United States, Art. III, defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort.
So because someone doesn't support the (often ludicrous) US foreign policy that means they're a traitor? How? He made no oath to slavishly follow every stupid thing the president said about other countries. Opposing government policy is what the opposition party is SUPPOSED to do, that's why it's called the opposition party. Whether this instance is a wise or moral one is another matter, but by equating opposition with treason you join the totalitarians in spirit.
they can't really say shit about the logan act, almost the whole government, on both sides of the isle, are guilty of that thing, so they won't enforce it.
As is typically the case such as this, both sides are wrong. Rachel is simply an idiot, but that goes without saying. And DeMint, well, he's a politician. But they both have something in common, they are both STATISTS! Which brings me to another side of the debate, one that is never brought up in the Blue vs. Red that we hear over and over with these Talking Head Shows. Isn't anyone for individual liberty anymore?
People who think that the United States is some sort of divine entity are going to get a rude awakening soon enough. There's a paradigm shift coming, and it's going to leave hacks like Rachel Maddow and Sean Hannity in the dust.
Maddow's critique sounds oddly similar to the garbage Fox News spews on a regular basis.
The US government has no business messing with Honduras. What happens there is business of the Honduran people only. Why is it so hard for people like Maddow to accept this?
Leave Honduras alone and then apply that same principle to Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Korea and Pakistan. Talk with them, trade with them, be diplomatic, but don't threaten them and don't try to tell them what to do. That helps no one.
Rachel Maddow, typical hypocritical warmongering media whore. She would have been cool with this sort of behavior if it had been a Democrat doing it under Bush. Back in the day, she actually acted like she was for peace. We see mirror-images of her ilk among the people who work for Fox. Obama visited Pakistan when the feds didn't allow it. Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter have undermined foreign policy in the past. Should they have been killed for it? (I'd be fine with all 3, actually.)
This is much ado about nothing. Our government saying its citizens cannot travel anywhere is not at all befitting a free people.
Congress is a co-equal branch of govt, BTW.
And whatever happens in Honduras is none of our business.
Do you think that he's serving the people of America by going to a foreign nation and going against the stance taken by the representative body of the American people? Surely that's trampling on the will of the people, who elected the government in order to come to consensus agreements like this?
...and Osama did such a wonedrful job by taking sides on the issue?
Basically, "All men are created equal"...All men...not American men...I commend DeMint for standing for others...not just Americans, peacefully and responsibly...not by war and threats.
But, back to my original comment...This Bitch is STUPID.
What, she wants this senator shot because he disagrees with the government? Rachel sounds like a commie, and differences in opinion will not be tolerated.
Rachel Maddow is aspiring to be a bull-dyke left wing version of Bill O'Reilly. If you're not with us, you're against us! My opponents are unpatriotic and treasonous!
Oh, so none of Honduras' neighbors recognize the new government either? I guess small nations can stick their noses where they don't belong, too. How would we feel if the criminal gangs that run Canada and Mexico had refused to recognize the government of Gerald Ford because they felt that Nixon had been unfairly forced to resign? This whole thing is so ridiculous, and it makes me sick to see Maddow shill for the new boss, who is the same as the old boss.
we should not be supporting anyone. Hondurans can figure out themselves what to do. As they say in a wise Russian joke: if honduras bothers you, don't scratch it. LezMaddow and DeMint are both full of shit.
Rachel, A Senator does not serve the government. A Senator serves the people and should obey the Constitution. He can do anything he wants, assuming it is legal and if he wants to support a military coup he can. His support means nothing and neither does the U.S.'s condemnation. Honduras is a sovereign country. I hope you've appreciated the civics lesson.
Maddow is perplexing. Yes, I too would be trying to undermine the U.S. foreign policy. I mean has Rachel forgotten about Iraq? Our empire is shameful.
Yeah! I remember at one time thinking.. man she is ripping on Obama when he talked about "non-combat" soldiers staying in Iraq - she might be one of the good ones. Alas! she has returned to her party line. "Democrats = good, Republicans = bad - and I cannot really be bothered about principles or the constitution"
Senator Jim DeMint is going to Honduras to support a repressive, anti-democratic, military regime and to advise them to resist all efforts of the United States to return the DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED Honduran President José Manuel Zelaya Rosales to power.
If I did'nt know any better, I'd say Senator Jim DeMint is a CIA operative.
Wow, someone needs to clue this empty headed suit that elected officials serve the PEOPLE not the government. Hard to believe how such ignorant people can have such visible jobs in the USA. Its equally embarrassing and dangerous.
Wow. I actually thought, while I may have disagreed, that she had consistent principled integrity....now I'm realizing she is yet another shill for power/party over principle. Go figure.
I don't like demint, I find his foreign policy positions disgusting, but here, essentially, Maddow is acting like O'Reilly, you go against your government, you're a traitor ?
Ex-peacenik sells out for money and glory... SHOCKING!! Throw a little money at them and most sluts will stick the booty in the air,... of both the male and female variety.
I thought the Vice President took the place of the ousted commie. So how is he a military leader? Was Ms. Maddow also outraged when Pelosi went to Syria? I have no problem with an American going down there, but why are the tax payers paying for it?
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, "Fox News has pulled off another dominant quarter, claiming the top 10 cable news programs in 3Q 2009 and growing against 3Q 2008, while CNN and MSNBC lost substantial portions of their election-boom audience."
Why the HECK are we even messing with their country? We can't even keep our OWN under control! Rachel, you really need to look at your OWN country! The person that was overthrown was done so BY THE SUPREME COURT OF THEIR OWN COUNTRY! Welcome to democracy at work! If you mess with your country too much, you will have to reap the consequences. I hope Obama is watching!! Maybe he's against it because dictators stick together...
wait a second, I thought our Gov was backing that coup? They must have changed their minds... Maddow needs to look around in her own country for treason. Everything the Obarry adm is doing is unconstitutional.
I'm SHOCKED we didnt just bomb the country like the gov does with non cooperatives.
Hey lets not even mention the elite nature of the coup party!
Hmm thinking of it, THIS illegal Honduran admin, is actually working against 'freedom.' Sounds like a breeding ground for terrorism to me :P
Oh the people of Honduras were only trying to get a proper constitution for themselves. That is small fries compared to those non exsistant WMD's we found in Iraq. Wait were elsewhere now, freedom isn't easy?
Regardless of his actions, a military coup is not the answer. There's this little entity called a 'court of law' that is the proper venue to handle transgressions such as this.
And if his actions were so 'un-constitutional' (as you say) why does he have the support of every other country in the world? Riddle me this... oh, but you know better because you heard it on O'Reilly, right?
Every day that goes by the wingnuts hammer more nails in the GOP coffin, stupid is as stupid does
Are you kidding me? If anything military coups are GREAT! Especially if they are occurring on principles. It is the only threat professional politicians will respond to.
Depends on who starts/funds it and for whose economic and political interests (CIA, the Bipartisan Policy Center, the National Endowment for Democracy). But I agree for grassroots ones against tyranny.
I actually do not care who funds it. Really, fund all the revolutions you want - everything has consequences, and anyone who has the moral courage to fund a good revolt - should do it. Anyone who is stupid enough to fund a bad revolt -apparently imagining that such things will never bite you back - should do it too.
Zelaya stated that he was being targeted by toxic gases and radiation, and that Israeli mercenaries might assassinate him. Starting 22 September, Honduran authorities used a Long Range Acoustic Device against people present at the Brazilian Embassy. A medical doctor reported that 25-30 people had symptoms of nose or stomach bleeding and that many people had symptoms of nausea, throat and sinus irritation and related problems. - Wiki
Jeez, I know YouTube is full of fucking idiots, but the majority of people commenting on this are out of their minds. Treason: a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.
Treason is a crime, which on historical reflection is/ was punishable by death (used to slander too). I'm sure the context of the word is clearer to you now.
Allegiance to a country is given in exchange for the state's protection. This is what makes you a citizen; however the government has no obligation to protect its citizens. This is not only supported by a variety of court cases, but also the constitution (Bowers vs. Devito). The social contract is and void, therefore there is no treason.
Violation is ambiguous, so I'll provide the merriam definition of treason: the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family.
Who cares if anyone commits treason? Are you some sort of legal positivist or ardent nationalist (like a right-winger)?
It just stinks of Republican hypocrisy to me - to be a representative of your own government, and to travel to a foreign nation and go against your own countries stance on a military coup is treasonous - if this man was a Democrat, or a liberal, the Republicans would be hanging him in effigy.
It's hypocrisy on both side, the only difference is that the variables have changed. Now it's not about Iraq and Bush. Maddow is just exemplifying that the mindset between left and right is nill.
THINK! Journalists are information- and opiniondroppers. Howdo they generate their opinion? Each and everyone of us has an opinion. So we need the material. why is demint doing it? Is he earning from it? Is it legal for him to do what hes doing? Is he in the know of something we dont? Is his support of the coup right or wrong? Is the coup right or wrong? Is the coup pro or anti US? Is it good for the people of honduras or bad? Is the US on the side of the honduran people or against? THINK
Only republicans like this fucker can be so arrogant and pathetic that they back a military government takeover. They did the same thing with Saddam Hussein, then in 20 years they'll say "oops, turns out he's a genocidal maniac, stop selling arms to that guy, and start a war with him." Republicans hate the troops, and they hate life, none of them are pro-life, they're just hypocritical bastards.
It has gotten to the point now when newscasters just flat out lie about what is going on? When did it get this bad? That was not a coup on behalf of the Hondurans. They threw out the guy who was attempting a coup. This reporter should be fired and Obama and DeMint both should have their head examined
I find it hilarious that the MSM invokes the Logan Act for Demint but not for the Clintons or Rick Perry.
I also find it ironic that a few years ago to speak out against the policy of the US's warmongering was patriotic, but now is labeled as treason by the Left.
I know it's bipartisan, but real story is why is Demint going? What isn' the MSM telling us?
Funny how the Republicans would label anybody that disagreed with Bush as 'un-American', yet here we have a Republican preparing to commit treason... the ultimate 'un-American' thing to do.
Actually I'm thrilled... the more the nutjobs in the Republican party show their true colors, the more people distance themselves from them.
DeMint should just stay in Honduras, the traitorious bastard... if he's smart, he will.
the Founders warned us... stay out of foreign affairs!
Especially since our CIA is the biggest terror organization the world's ever known, and quite successful in backing a lot of these coups, so we can go and "destroy the opposition"
i agree, but laws will be made of reason. wherever there is not a reasonable law, there will be breakers.
unreasonable, unjust, and unfair laws make honest people into criminals. i ignore laws i don't need to use, who doesn't? the wild west for example, was based on a united social contract and they resisted states as long as they could.
those are real americans. people who love liberty and are not afraid to show it.
It doesn't matter what his reasoning is... I'm sure criminals rationalize crimes after they commit them as well.
It's illegal. It would be one thing if he were going down to convince the military to restore the ousted president, but instead he's instructing them to do the exact opposite, contrary to the position of the government HE SERVES.
I seriously hope they arrest him on his return to the country, and charge him with treason. It's completely ridiculous the stunts the Republicans pull.
Hmmm. So the Obama administration supports a president who violates his country's constitution to further his personal political fortunes. We need to keep a close eye on Mr. Obama.

Oh, so none of Honduras' neighbors recognize the new government either? I guess small nations can stick their noses where they don't belong, too. How would we feel if the criminal gangs that run Canada and Mexico had refused to recognize the government of Gerald Ford because they felt that Nixon had been unfairly forced to resign? This whole thing is so ridiculous, and it makes me sick to see Maddow shill for the new boss, who is the same as the old boss.

Regardless of his actions, a military coup is not the answer. There's this little entity called a 'court of law' that is the proper venue to handle transgressions such as this.

Zelaya stated that he was being targeted by toxic gases and radiation, and that Israeli mercenaries might assassinate him. Starting 22 September, Honduran authorities used a Long Range Acoustic Device against people present at the Brazilian Embassy. Jeez, I know YouTube is full of fucking idiots, but the majority of people commenting on this are out of their minds. Treason: a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.
That's what DeMint is doing!
chrishird21 2 years ago
hows that old bag the queen doing these days? hope she lives for a while, hate to see one of those wicked prince-cunts ruling over the isles
CosmoZorzi 2 years ago
Treason is a crime, which on historical reflection is/ was punishable by death (used to slander too). I'm sure the context of the word is clearer to you now.
Allegiance to a country is given in exchange for the state's protection. This is what makes you a citizen; however the government has no obligation to protect its citizens. This is not only supported by a variety of court cases, but also the constitution (Bowers vs. Devito). The social contract is and void, therefore there is no treason.
MrYougunt 2 years ago
Violation is ambiguous, so I'll provide the merriam definition of treason: the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family.
Who cares if anyone commits treason? Are you some sort of legal positivist or ardent nationalist (like a right-winger)?
MrYougunt 2 years ago
It just stinks of Republican hypocrisy to me - to be a representative of your own government, and to travel to a foreign nation and go against your own countries stance on a military coup is treasonous - if this man was a Democrat, or a liberal, the Republicans would be hanging him in effigy.
chrishird21 2 years ago
It's hypocrisy on both side, the only difference is that the variables have changed. Now it's not about Iraq and Bush. Maddow is just exemplifying that the mindset between left and right is nill.
MrYougunt 2 years ago

They did the same thing with Saddam Hussein, then in 20 years they'll say "oops, turns out he's a genocidal maniac, stop selling arms to that guy, and start a war with him." Republicans hate the troops, and they hate life, none of them are pro-life, they're just hypocritical bastards.
deveousdevil 2 years ago
It has gotten to the point now when newscasters just flat out lie about what is going on? When did it get this bad? That was not a coup on behalf of the Hondurans.

Do NOT attack a man;
It makes professionals look like fools.
Violent revolutions are rarely acceptable, however, if the people of the land want the revolution, it is none of the business of the USA.
Majority rule?
Self sovereignty?
lol "USA"...

OLDBEATERSIX 2 years ago
i agree, but laws will be made of reason. wherever there is not a reasonable law, there will be breakers.
unreasonable, unjust, and unfair laws make honest people into criminals. i ignore laws i don't need to use, who doesn't? the wild west for example, was based on a united social contract and they resisted states as long as they could.
those are real americans. people who love liberty and are not afraid to show it.
we don't need another communist witch hunt.
risecat 2 years ago 2
the real crimes are choosing to ignore reason if there are to be crimes. i could be called a traitor for many of my thoughts.
risecat 2 years ago
It doesn't matter what his reasoning is... I'm sure criminals rationalize crimes after they commit them as well.
It's illegal. It would be one thing if he were going down to convince the military to restore the ousted president, but instead he's instructing them to do the exact opposite, contrary to the position of the government HE SERVES.
I seriously hope they arrest him on his return to the country, and charge him with treason. It's completely ridiculous the stunts the Republicans pull.
