I almost cried kneeling at the cross with my head bowed. So emotional every time the show ended and the drums started playing. It was an amazing experience because you could hear the silence of those watching us almost as if time stopped itself.
I was there, wish we could have made it to finals too (hanna high school), but any ways I was sitting there and you guys just got my attetion right away when i heard "adagio for strings" you guys were great :)
This is the most beautiful marching show i have ever heard or seen. It was an honor to compete with yall last year and i cant wait to see yall again next Saturday at BOA regional!! Best of luck from the Spirit of Saginaw Band.
I went to high school in the DFW area in the 90s and was always envious of the LD Bell band, and looking at this video nothing has changed about them. Still amazing as ever and still LARGE!!!! Cool that so many kids love music in that area.
Great show but in all honesty i think Marcus was better. 1 for there show was executed more cleanly, put out more sound , and overall just a more visually stimulating show. But i still loved this show, very emotional
I think Cedar Park is or was better I should say than San Marcus but LD Bell all you can say is WOW! I watched these kids perform for 4 years cuz my boy playes for Haltom High ( a yearly rival). They are good!!
They can do the drum break at the beginning because you are given I think 7 or so minutes before the judges being to judge, therefore they can have the preshow until the announcer finally states they are now being judged... Or something along those lines.
I dont understand how LD Bell gets second to Marcus at this competition all the time. Ld bell is far better than Marcus, and their music and the artistry of their shows are better. I find alot of Marcus' shows to be cheesy with bad drill
I don't think LD Bell appreciates their tubas much. They just have them run around for the beginning. Something must be terribly wrong going on. Other than that great performance! Awesome!
I marched state and i remember watching this band perform and i was mind blown! i thought i was watching phantom or something like that. You guys deserved 1st place. Great show!
I was in the color guard for this show. I was amazed, it was an amazing show, and well, being a sophomore, I didn't fully understand it until about halfway through the season. It just hadn't registered that this show really did reach out to the audience in such a powerful way. <3
with the whole intro thing with the drumline slowly walking on, how did they not exceed their time? Because I was in UIL 5A finals too and I thought you had 8 minutes on the field before you get disqualified? Not sure, but correct me if I'm wrong
@clarinet2231 the official time does not start until a few seconds after the announcer says that "you may begin your performance for the state marching band contest".
Some DCI group introduced the little Preshow that alot of people now incorporate into shows
@clarinet2231 because there is a time given for a band to enter i think its 5 mins. and you can do whatever warm-up, set-up, etc. So the part when they are playing until the announcer talk they call it a pre-show. then after that 8 mins are given for the band to perform. Plus if you were watching them in finals at UIL the bands are not timed thats the only time where they are not timed :)
Two goosebump moments for me in this show: during the climax of 'Salvation' and when the brass turn around in the closer.
The closer itself is very powerful to me. Chokes me up every time. For those who don't know, it's the main theme from the HBO miniseries 'The Pacific.'
they had a good preform-ace but I didn't like their version of salvation I think that the wakeland highs schools verion was better but I am not sayin who preformed it better
the first time i saw this i almost cried, but then i remembered that i was in the office with the band directors and told myself "keep it together soldier!"
L.D. Bell sucked the night they were at our stadium. Their lines were crooked and their band show had about 1/3 of the things they did at competition. It just seemed lazy and unplanned.
On top of that, when they played for their drill team, they used a metronome. Seriously.
i was one of the "Honor Guard" (the guys puttin out the crosses). It was an unbelievably awesome and emotional show. As we performed, we thought of all those people we know that are serving in the armed forces to protect our country, and by the end of the show we were crying because of the impact and message it brought to people and ourselves...that show changed the way i think about the army, they deserve a whole lot more respect than what people usually show. Im Proud To Be In The LD Bell Band
I absolutely love love loooove this show. I was so excited when I got to see it at finals. I think I almost passed out from excitement(: All of the finals bands were excellent, but LD Bell and Berkner put on some of the best shows I've ever been priveleged to see.
Hey!! I'm in the bowie guard and I just want to say that ya'll did AWESOME!!!! This was my first year and all the vets were like "your going to love watching Marcus and L.D. Belle" so i was sooo psyched for it and ya'll did not let me down at all!!! It was AWESOME!!!!! :D :D :D good job guys!!!
Absolutely loved it. Fantastic production. One thing though, I didnt hear a whole lot (could have been the venue and or the recording audo) of techinical music playing though. Lots and lots of chords and whole notes. Played very well, but it just didnt seem like difficult music at all. Great job though!
I must say that of all the band shows I've EVER seen, this is most definitely the most touching one. I loved Bell's performance and if they don't wind up winning it all at BOA then the judges all need their heads examined.
just watched marcus' show compared to this one. Marcus was ok.. not impressed. I like bell's shows better because i feel their energy just from watching it on my computer. BELL FOR NAT CHAMPS!!
Really? I wasn't at the State competition (I've only been seeing the videos), but I feel like Bowie was better than Duncanville. Maybe I'm just not getting the best perspectives since I'm only seeing the videos.
But I saw Bowie at Area and L.D. Bell at a foot ball game, and Bowie imo just had such a rich, dark sound this year. One of the best I've ever heard for a high school marching band. L.D. Bell was great, of course, but it felt really underwhelming compared to their past shows.
@CheckeredStarz i agree that bowie was better than duncanville and im pretty sure they had a tied score of 25 in finals but duncanville won out because of overall more judges ranked it higher. LD bell is always great but their music wasnt as intricate as alot of other schools. And just pointing out that Mr. Ramirez who was a prelims judge ranked duncanville 16th place and my school as 17th so i think he knows what is really going on :)
@456cres You are smoking crack! Duncanville had an amazing show! D'ville was extremely well balanced and they had a great show concept. Harder is not always better. Don't get me wrong, Bowie was amazing!!! BUT--Nick Williams ranking D'ville 9th in marching was way whack! The top 8 finalists were amazing as were Round Rock, Rowlett, n B-Wood. Judge Ramirez has been out of the Texas band scene for a while. Would not really count his 16th prelims placement for Duncanville as credible. IMHO. :-)
@smusic5333 Actually i am not smoking anything. I never said that Duncanvilles' show was bad or horrible but just expressed my opinion that bowie should have beat them and that they should not have been 3rd place. And im pretty sure that the "way whack" decision of putting them in 9th had strong reasoning behind it as every judge is handpicked and has years if not decades of experience over yours or my own short time of experience.
@smusic5333 Nick Williams knows what the hell he is talking about so if he put yall 9th he thought that is where yall belonged, he is very experienced and they asked him to judge bc of it. and besides ld bell had 13 judging points and yall got 25 so he could of given yall a 1 ranking and you still would have 3rd
I wish the end were on here. It was especially poignant where each of the band members went and knelt by a cross (or a star of David as there are some mixed in with the crosses) and the color guard basically paid an homage to the famous Iwo Jima picture with the soldiers and the flag.
All 36 bands there are already winners! But as a band-parent ( not from Bell ) I enjoyed this show the best. Just beautiful......marching, music, and the crosses were just amazing!
