superb depth of field thanks to the f2.0 lens? Shouldn't that be superb dof despite the f2.0 lens? Not trying to be a dick just making sure I'm not missing something..
Please, help me, because I cannot decide which camera I should buy: canon sx40 hs or s100?
I would use the camera mainly in low light (e.g.concerts) that is why s100 seems better cause of the f2.0 and 1/1.7 sensor, but it has "only" 5x zoom, what do you think, are there remarkable difference of image quality between the two camera? Thank you!
I'd be interested to see how the camera handles low light (High ISO) situations. I was ready to buy one of these, but then started looking around at other models such as the Olympus XZ-1, which has the F/2.5 aperture at full zoom as well as ND filters for extremely bright situations. My understanding is that the Olympus is less compact and has poorer high ISO performance, but the optics compensate. The S100 is definitely cool looking though.
@zamraqayum This is not really a sensible comparison because they are completely different markets. Most people would probably own both the S100 and a Superzoom (or SLR). The FZ150 (a camera I have my eye on btw) should be compared to superzooms from Canon, Nikon, or Fuji rather than to something that is a fraction of the size.
@raza4466 The HX9V does excellent video, but that's about all. The still images don't compare to the S100's. The HX9V is a super zoomer, so if you like long zooms, it is okay.
I don't think it's too expensive. Firstly, like you said, you get a lot of features. From the pictures you've posted, as well as other reviews, the image quality looks really good. I own the s95, and it produces really goodimage quality for a compact; I love the wide maximum aperture, which isn't ubiquitous amongst most compacts. Also, it's a new product, and obviously the price is going to appear to be an issue at first, but if you wait a little while, the price will come down. Great review!
@pprreejj as dave said, i think the major difference is the price. you certainly do get more on the s100, but the s95 seems to be more worth the money. if you're not concerned with the price tag, then go for the s100, because it's f2 aperture seems to perform better than the s95's, giving a clearer depth of field. plus, the s100 can shoot 1080p video, while the s95 only shoots 720p. (mind you, the s95 is still a mighty little camera =D)
@gammaray850 thanks for replying. I have decided to wait for the s100 to come down in price and have settled on having a canon ixus 220hs instead for the time being, as this one does have full hd and also a super slow-mo mode.
What happened to the x10? I was convinced that u were stunned by the x10?

@gotmegud I think The S100 is slightly better photo & video results, but the Fuji is better handling due to being slightly bigger.

@davomrmac really!? nice! thank you!. one last question how about noise handing?
gotmegud 1 month ago
@gotmegud Both about the same, though the S100 might just edge it.
