This was one of the best NHL playoff games Ive ever seen. Mario was ejected in the 1st/2nd in regulation I believe (fighting I think) .In the 2nd OT Ref Dan Marouelli reversed a delay of game penalty and gave Juneau the penalty shot .And Nedved's winner in the 4th OT. Playoff hockey!
@rhettinski Yeah, one of the best I'd seen as well...and I missed half of the game, including the entirety of regulation time! Only happened to tune in partway through the first OT. I understand that Lemieux wanted to make himself useful after getting ejected, so he brought pizza for his teammates to keep their strength up in between OT periods. Resulting in the Pittsburgh GM (or somebody) joking about him being "the world's highest paid waiter!"
OK, at 1:15, WTF is with the dude in the crowd? Everyone is cheering and dancing for joy, and then the camera pans to him and he's motionless. Then he starts cheering as the camera goes to him. WTF?
I've got this entire game on vhs some where, my dad was on call that night, he gets home hating that he had missed most of the game, he watched the final minutes of regulation and then this marathon.
Lordy I remember this game. It was like 2:30 in the morning when it finally concluded. I first started watching this at the neighborhood dive and and was late to work the next day watching this. For some reason the Pens always have the Caps number in the playoffs.
I remember this game like it was yesterday. All I kept thinkin was, "C'mon Pens, put one in the darn net." It was a frustrating game if it was one of your teams in the game.
Barrasso got hurt in the first period, while Carey and Kolzig were platooning in this series (Kolzig was the goalie of record for WSH's 2 wins in the series). Wregget gave up a goal in the 2nd to Bondra
I was 9 1/2 when this happened, but I remember it very well like it happened yesterday. Amazing! I am 20 now and this makes me reminisce back to then.
How the hell can there be SO many Pens fans in DC IN THE PLAYOFFS? Washington is probably the worst sports town ever! And I don't want to hear that "we are a transient town" excuse. Tell 19,000 fans to by a friggin playoff ticket. If your a Caps fan, I give you credit, because it's gotta suck when 10,000 Flyers or every other teams fans take over your arena every game.
Yeah, tell me something mr. "worst sports town" were you one of the people who booed when the Eagles took Donovan McNabb over Ricky Williams? Secondly, we'll be back on the saddle soon. Unfortunately, turn out does "sigh" need to improve.
I give you credit for not assuming that I booed Donovan and your answer is absolutely not. There were 30 people out of a city of a million in a half. Did I get a little caught up in "Draft Ricky"? Yes. But the moment we took Donovan, I knew is the right choice. We will win a Super Bowl with our phenominal QB. Remember it took Elway 15 seasons to win his...........
I live in DC (originally from Philly) and I have more passion for sports in my pinkie finger than the entire DC area has for all of it's teams. The only fans that remotely care are Skins fans, but they are not even close to as passionate or dedicated as Eagles fans. People in DC do not realize that the Caps ARE heading in the right direction. They play hard EVERY night, despite the fact that they only play to 75% capacity. So yes, DC is probably the worst sports city that I have ever seen.
I'm from PGH and i LOVE going to Washington. it's almost like a Home gave for the pens, Half the building is dressed in Back and gold. Only time they can sell out the place
Joooo to byly časy!! :-D Péťa Nedvědů! Válí do dneška. Super hráč i člověk. Aspoň tak na mě působí.

Wow! A brief shot of Alek Stojanov, a mere months after he was traded for Markus Naslund!

Nedved could have been a great one, but too immature.

'91,'92,'95,'96, '00,'01. We own the Caps in the playoffs. Time to add '09 to the list. Go Pens.

Caps haven't had much good goaltending or defence recently....well...since Detroit blew holes in them in 98 en route to teh sweep.
Should be interesting with Varlamov being coached directly by Irbe

I was 9 years old when I went to this game, still remember watchin' Nedved slide across the neutral zone. So satisfying to be a Pens fan that night.
