You're also assuming that anyone who disagrees with physicalism does NOT believe that all humans are equal, and therefore must be some kind of racist or homophobic...... Homosexuality.... seems like you've really got some insecurities with your sexuality. It's borderline depressing how spiritually sheltered you have been.
Interesting how you use fear as an argument considering the fact that my beliefs are far, far more terrifying than physicalism. I don't believe in physicalism because I have seen way too much evidence to the contrary, not because I'm sitting here afraid of death. That's quite an assumption for you to make (that every single person who does not believe in physicalism is terrified of it)- which I must point out that assumption is basically the opposite of science.
ok if jz is doing his more educated vids by reading from someone else's work then he is one of the best script actors of all time either way you have to give him one hell of a lot of credit.
Interesting. Now, my objection: how can you be a physicalist and still pursue yourself as "me", "I", or whatever name you like? I understand cultural bonds give you that answer, at least in the beggining of your life. Sartre here. If so, would personal identity exist? Yes, but not in the sense you point consciousness to be.
You assume that ADHD and Depression are dissorders of the brain, but are they or are they just natural processes of conscience that our current state of society deems as in appropriate.
You baffle a lot in this video. Physicalsim cannot explain consciousness. Consciousness supervenes on the physical facts- i agree. Your behaviour etc is governed by physical laws - i agree. But what it cant explain, is our OBSERVANCE of conscious experience. Im not talking about seeing a red object then you saying in your head "this is red", im saying being aware of even this...
well said zj. did you write this or are you reading from a website? well in any case there are alot of interesting truths about life and existance here.
My friend was diagnosed with a few psychological problems and he was prescribed Saraquil. In order for him to receive his disability benefits he had to take this drug. This drug seems to have created a new problem, he can fall asleep whenever, wherever, even standing up. Of coarse we are not positive, but it seems the most likely cause since the problem started not to long after he started taking this drug. I have known him for 16 years and he was once as sharp as a tack!
OK, so you say that a Manhattan Project of the brain might give us the knowledge necessary to repair mental "diseases." Need I remind you that the US Military and the authorities of many countries in the world consider homosexuality a disease? Who shall decide what behaviors are be "fixed" by modifying the individual's brain? Have you ever thought of the possibility that some psychologists or politicians may feel left-handedness should be fixed so that everyone will be right-handed?
"And to be sure its not a dream or 'illusion' as you might think you can do test like ask a friend to put a word or number on the inside of the closet or something similar"
If this were possible one would be able to prove that it is possible.
Your comment amounts to this: 'If you just accepted it as true then I wouldn't have to prove it to you'.
Scientific skepticism is terribly annoying, isn't it? But it's no match for you with your words, like 'materialistic' and 'ignorant' and 'sheeps'.
Even if I could do it , do you think I would waste my time trying to prove it to a 'skeptic' like you ( which you aren't because to be a skeptic you actually have to research w/e you are talking about ) and you obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Yes small minded ignorant people are indeed annoying , they think with the knowlegde provided not with the knowledge in 10-100 years ahead. You'll realize when you die , unfortunately untill then be a ''skeptic'' and live your life a lie
Research and actually PRACTISE obe's , you'll materialistic view on the world/life will change rapidly. Next time you try to sound smart and 'educated' (which is you biggest problem) don't read of a screen , anyone can read and regurgigate.
I didn't say that at all , its actually quite normal , when your body goes to sleep it paralyses itself so it wont hurt itself whilst dreaming. You can be conscious in mind whilst your body is asleep , this is the time where you can seperate from your body. And to be sure its not a dream or 'illusion' as you might think you can do test like ask a friend to put a word or number on the inside of the closet or something similar , seriously check out albert taylor on coast 2 coast
I wouldn't be able to prove it because evidence as you think of evidence is 3rd and in a material way , why are you looking for someone to prove it to you , when you can learn how to do it for yourself. Why do people on believe what school/tv tells them is right? Like I said , if this was well known and accepted people wouldn't be the ignorant little worker sheeps that they are. I have nothing to prove to you , I wouldn't be able to convince you even if I had some kind of proof.
@smoorkonijn just because he's reading it doesn't mean it isn't original (or at least his combination and paraphrase of other's work, which just about everything is). He probably just wrote it down so he would be able to make the vid easier.
@smoorkonijn Pay these people no mind. They are the cattle of the elite. I'm currently learning astral projection, and plan on conducting scientific experiments on retrieving information similar to what Robert Monroe did (Journeys Out of the Body). Good luck with your work 93

i'll bet you're a big fan of ray kurzweil. i'm really enjoying the lecture on physicalism and its inherent possibilities.

Nothing that you say is factual. It's just your opinion. You have no idea of what happens after death.

@JPa311979 After 6:42 when you mentioned crude chemical sledge hammers, is what made me think of this.

If the physical is what we can perceive then it is mind dependent.
If we can't explain our mental abilities when they underpin our understanding that is paradoxical.
Also what is the inate quality of the physical other than percievability?

Daniel Dennett covers the topic of consciousness fairly well.

Give me logical reason to believe in OBEs.
Also keep in mind that arguments that attempt to push *your* obligation of proof on to me are not valid.
TheLawnmower17 3 years ago
Also, your attempts to belittle and deride me convince me of nothing.

Yo, it's not like you have to be particularly smart or educated to notice that your mind doesn't just float free from your body and go for a stroll.

Why don't you prove OBEs really happen?
Until somebody produces hard evidence that OBEs exist then we'll make the default assumption that they don't.
Anecdotal evidence and unsupported claims are worthless.
