  • What a treasure, the BBC's version of the Chronicles of Narnia

  • This soundtrack owns.

I like how hateful the queen is in this. She was way too pathetic in the modern PC. Miraz, on the other hand....

  • King Miraz looks almost exactly like King Theoden from LOTR!

  • this sucks

  • I really love the old films and original books, part of my childhood, part of my heart.

  • This show aims at authenticity and capturing the heart of the novels, something the new movies have zero interest in. People know the story, so the aim is a lot of special effects in a family movie in the hopes that kids will drag their parents to see it. If you want something cosmetic, go see the movies. For the real story that is faithful to the books, stick with BBC.

  • Why havent they made The Magicians Nephew,The horse nad his boy or The last battle?

  • @superreader001 i think its cozx they ran out of fundings

  • @jhibbitt1 that's too bad the Magicians nephew and The last battle would make great films,I think Walden media and 20th century fox are doing the same thing cause their version of Dawn treader didnt do soo well at the box office soo they're thinking about cutting out the rest of the films entirely :'(

  • @superreader001 Actually, I read recently on wikipedia that Magician's Nephew is the next film in the works.

  • @finrodbrs I heard that too. I look up any new info on Narnia web.com they don't know what the hell they're gonna do whether doing a remake, a reboot or prequel :( the worst idea they had was making the story in modern times

  • i liked these adaptions more than the current film series because these follow the books closer & are more accurate. very well done.

  • @ChrizzyNewYen I AGREE WITH YOU 100% ME AND MY OLDER SISTER HATE THE NEW REMAKES THAT THEY MADE THEY SUCK AND THE BBC ONES STICK TO THE STORYLINE AND ARE REALLY GOOD AND THEY CAPTURE PEOPLE'S HEART'S AND MINDS AND KIDS WILL WANT TO READ THESE GOOD BOOKS

  • @backtothefuture1990 I'm glad to see someone sees it the way I do! I mean, the current Narnia film series is entertaining, but being a big Narnia fan, I'm looking for accuracy, along with the entertainment.

  • Queen Susan's horn is too big....

  • the disney version is better

  • Game of Thrones TOTALLY stole their opening from TCON! :D

  • I LOVED THE BBC DRAMA SERIS I HAVE THEM ALL DVD BRINGS BK GOOD MEMRIES TO ME

  • i really hate how no one told the boy how to say dwarf, he puts too much emphasis on the W

  • you can find these on amazon.com, I found a package of three in general dollar

  • Wow. This one kicks the Disney movie's butt.

Maybe it's because this one tried to follow the book

  • This reminds me of my childhood so much!

  • 1:38 wheres that castle? o_o

  • I like the Newer one better

  • Never really liked the new ones, but the BBC ones just bring back memories. The music and warmth of the characters always a great watch!

  • I like these old episodes a lot, even though the acting can get pretty cheesy (though most of the acting in the new VDT was pretty cheesy too). But the thing I really don't like about these is the music. It just clashes with every scene.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @claressadubs See, the music is one of the bits I love most! After watching the new ones I always end up wanting to watch these instead

  • According to the book, how old is Prince Caspian supposed to be?? because in this version he is just a kid, and in the movie he is much older. What is his real age??

haven't read the books yet, but i wanna know that

  • @yosoylau8 i'm not sure really, but since Peter is 14 in Prince Caspian, i suppose Caspian is that age too :)

  • @yosoylau8 This version is more accurate to the book. The actor here is probably 12 or 13, so about the right age. Caspian was supposed to be 13 in "Prince Caspian" and around 16 in "Voyage of the Dawntreader".

  • The script sticks very closely to the dialogue in the book

  • Oh the music brings is all back immediately! Wonderful adaptations with such soul.

  • why is lucy so fat in the bbc lww

  • Only one More left In the remakes... :-(

  • why whenever I look at Prunaprismia I think she is like a mouse? Her hair is drawn up to make her Have Princess Leia hair. I can't help but laugh.

  • WERES the narnia room door

  • I think I prefer the movies... It's still good though!

  • This was the first chronicles of narnia book I read while in 5th grade. This book and the silver chair with eustace (useless) and poe. fyi...the mouse reepicheep (if thats how you spell it), was the same guy willow and wicket the ewok from star wars.

  • I love the movies way better and Caspian is so young....thumbs up if you agree that the movie is better than the show.

And the book is better than the movie and the show!

  • 0:48 "SORRY!"

bahaha my brother and i used to rewind this tape to that spot over and over again. we thought it was hilarious. (...it still is)

  • I grew up watching the BBC Lion, Witch and Wardrobe, and this will be my first time watching this one, so I'm really excited at 25, I still love these versions way better than the new ones, they did the book such justice!!

  • love the theme. beautiful. why don't tv shows have these quality themes any more? :( when did beautiful music become so uncool?

  • If I had a good budget to make a movie, I would do the whole series true to the books. Unlike SOME major production companies who took out the basic princapals from the orrigianl story line...

  • @ade4u20 agreed! I would do the exact same thing.

  • Miraz was more badass in the disney version.

  • this caspian is a kid , and in the disney´s is an adult

  • @dollylinkera caspian is supposed to be a kid in voyage of dawn treader he grows cuz narnian times is different thats the only thing they messed up withdisneys caspian and there was no love connection between susan and caspian in the books but i love the new one and im going to be seeing voyage of dawn treader coming out the new version.

  • Gosh...suddenly I'm 10 years old and watching this at home on video whilst its misty and cool outside. Such a flashback from the music!!!

  • I love watching the tv sieres much better than the new movies.

  • I bought all these on DVD in England for 8.99! The Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader and the Silver Chair! Awesome Childhood memories! This is the way the Chronicles of Narnia should be done! A great post!

  • I've only seen the first movie when I was like five, re-watched it a week ago (thank you so, so much for posting this up), and this is the first time I'm watching this one... and... So when I heard Edmund's voice... I was like... "he cracked like a rotten egg..."

My image of him as a beginning child actor for all these years has been ruined by a rotten egg being fried in this eighties cheese omelet... ._.

  • OMG look at the crown XD

  • i get chills and goosebumps whenever i hear that opening theme, i think back to my youth years, brings a tear to the eye actually, love it

  • I don't think I've ever seen this part before =D Exciting!!!!!

  • I love this episode

  • me gusta mucho

    esta serie

  • I grew up watching these BBC productions and reading the books. The newer versions are superior in EVERY way with the exception of the extra content directors felt would spice the script up. These days it takes some sex appeal to get people to sit through 2 hours of moving pictures.

  • i love how they actually follow the book unlike the new films :)

  • I can tolerate the cheap production and cheezy acting cause I know it's not really a movie... but I still can't tolerate the bad casting of the four Pevencie children!

  • Miraz looks a lot like King Theoden.

  • It may be true to the books (which I love) by damn, this is terrible. Such cheesy acting ! I can't believe how much I used to love this series as a kid.

  • This is the Narnia I remember from my childhood. Late 80's early 90's Narnia kicked azz.

  • What the heck??? Peter looks younger than Edmund. lol

  • i loved watching these on video as a child, my fav or so was Silver Chair (and i hope fox and wm make N4 look like it almost)

  • Watching this brings back so many memories. While I love the new versions by Walt Disney Pictures and, now, 20th Century Fox, these will always hold a place in my heart. I watched these so many times, the VHS wore out. (I could memorize the dialog while it was muted)

  • The is Prince Caspian, the one where all four of the children go back to Narnia because in the Voyager of the Dawn Treader Susan and Peter cant go back because they are too old. So therefore Prince Caspian is at the right age in the first film and the right age in the VDT. Thanks for the upload, reminds me of my childhood :)

  • I like the disney version better.

  • at 2:11 the aunt sounds like the White Witch in LWW :D

  • Ahhh....

Now THIS is a good version of Prince Caspian!

  • The new ones might be flashier, but they don't have a tenth of the heart the originals have.

  • Can I get an Amen??? :)

  • amen... lol

  • @katie9918 The new ones also don't have a plot :p

  • @katie9918 I really don't like the newer ones. These older, BBC versions stick with the story more. I wish Peter Jackson had done these movies as well. Would have turned out much better!

  • @katie9918 To be honest I didnt think the 2010 version of The Dawn treader didnt have the same exciment and real story telling like this one did. not too mention it wasnt according to time :(

  • this was a lower budget bbc version that was perfect to the book. the disney one was much higher budget, had 20 years worth of developments and was changed to suit the hollywood film criteria -particularly content, sub plots and language. both have their merits. this one (or rather dawn treader that followed) really inspired me as a young kid, whereas the disney one brought back memories of these ones perfectly. both good in my opinion...

  • Umm . . . is this just me, or does Miraz look an awful lot like Theoden at 7:50? I went and looked him up on IMDB, and they are not played by the same man. But they look like they were.

  • @RoseBaggins whats funniest about that is, C S Lewis and JRR Tolkien were friends-if they had had a hand in the movies they might have picked the same actor for both roles, its possible they were meant to look alike and the casting directors just got lucky that way...

  • dont like this version...is dis the originaL?

  • yeah it is.

  • i liked the disney version better. everyone looked better.

  • Yeah, the casting in this one wasn't that great. But this version was truer to the books.

  • This was an excellent adaptaion of the books!

  • @plalelal I agree. If I had a budget, I would do the whole series, and keep it true to the books. unlike certian major production companies, who somehow managed to take away all the principals of the books...

  • Hmm disney's got alot of inspiration from this one..

  • i forgot how different these movies were compared to the books. Some of the acting is good, but other times, it's just too funny. Price Caspian in all these scenes is smiling too much.

Child, you are going to be killed by your uncle! Why are you smiling?! ... ooo pretty fireworks. RUN! lol

  • dam it lucy what happened. i never knew she was fat :D. omg im freaking LMAO still

  • no kidding. they dont think people wont notice aslan's mouth just barely moviing

  • Considering the small budget and lack of technology I actually enjoy the BBC version better than the Disney one. This version at least tries to stick to the storyline...

  • wtf is this is this the older 1 i lyk the newr 1s better (ali)

  • lol i had all of these on tape back in the day.

    good stuff.

  • this is weird. coz it's so old. but it's still nice to watch the proper version.

  • the old prince caspian is my favoritve

  • Comment removed

  • I used to love watching these when I was little. Fantastic! :)

  • actually this was made before that new prince caspian movies so these are the real characters as you put it

  • The real characters are in book son. Not in the movie. The movie that was released 17 years after this BBC series.

  • I like both the recent movie of Prince Caspian and this but feel the casting of Caspian as an actual young boy serves to highlight his vulnerability rather than him being a barrel chested, square-jawed man. Highlights the change in him between Caspian and Dawn Treader too.

  • yeah I think in the new Prince Caspian they should have cast someone who looked younger and then in the voyage of the dawn treader he could look a little older.

  • I guess.. they wanted things to be more dramatic..

  • the only part I like is when Lucy pushes that girl off the bench ,that's it

  • Comment removed

  • I think it's too bad 'the horse and his boy' never been filmed. I liked that book.

  • same with magicians nephew, there's a play though......

  • Please don't be offended but I prefer the recent film adaptations. The kids in this version annoy me.

But fair play for something made in 1989 this is pretty good stuff. And I like how they well they stick to the books too.

(Is it me or does Edmund look older than Peter?) :D

  • I noticed that about Edmund too and it was beginning to annoy me cuz it just doesn't seem as realistic that way... but I agree; they stick to the books a ton better than the new Prince Caspian does. He doesn't blow the horn till halfway through the book!!

  • remember the movies r based in the books. The director Adam wanted the movie to be more quickly and not slow. I like The Disney addaption is awsome in everyway. It has the same drama only with a little mixed story between caspian and susan and i like it was original. And i like that susan was part of the battle in the book she wasent but in the movie she rocks allot. Im just saying: )

  • wait so caspian and susan didnt kiss in the book?

  • Nope, not at all. There's not even an attraction between them if my memory serves me right. Also, in Prince Caspian, Caspian is supposed to be a boy, not a young man.

  • well that sucks. i hate to say this but disney did the better job

  • Your memory does serve correctly. Caspian was a boy in the book and there wasn't even a hint in the book to suggest a romantic attraction between the two. That was just movie hype. The dialog in these movies is almost word for word from the book. Also--in the book, the Centaurs are not stuck in the castle and killed. That addition in the movie bothered me considerably more than the romantic interest between Caspian and Susan. These movies are much truer to the books and the spirit of the books.

  • @HeathenMaiden - uh, he kinda looks like a boy, not a young man to me... or are you referring to the later parts (VDT?)

  • @RosalieHale1995 yea they dont

  • @RosalieHale1995 Hollywood just wants to put a damn love-interest in everything they make, thereby ruining a lot of stories that are not meant to be romantic.

  • When I was little, I thought the older Edmund was really hot :P

  • I haven't watched this in donkeys i have all of these on DVD and books. Aww good times good times.

  • I adore these the characters are spot on^^

  • is this Prince Caspian or the Dawn Treader ?? i'm confused .

  • It's both actually. The BBC did not have the funds to do them separately so they combined them into a six episode series where the first two episodes were of Prince Caspian and the remaining four of the Dawn Treader. Hence the title "Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader". :)

  • ohh ahah :] wow im stupid :]

  • @HeathenMaiden that's not true. There was a full bbc movie of the second installation. It just hasn't been put onto youtube.

  • Lucy really was the biggest pain in the arse.

  • I absolutely love the new Narnia films so far, they are well-cast, well directed, and have great effects and settings. But you can't shit on these old classic BBC versions, which had an almost theatre charm to them and had pretty good effects for their day. The kid who plays Caspian looks a lot like my little light-skinned black cousin lol, which is maybe why I like him as an actor.

  • lol at how the kid says dwarfs

  • shit

  • Prince Caspain is a KID in this. It's funny.

  • Acording to the book he is supposed to be a kid the first time he meets the pevensies.

  • The castle is Pembroke Castle in west Wales.

  • A few years ago, this was good, but after the 2008 one....yeah

  • the narnia films are good but they dont compare to the bbc versions

  • Nice red hat, Peter!

  • lol Prunaprismia?! what a weired name

  • lol edmund's voice

  • You only say that because you saw that first.

  • I saw this first. But now it seems like a badly done parody.

  • You know you still love it.

  • Loved this movie when I was a kid!

Thank you for putting it up!

I really want to the DVDS to watch with my kids.

  • yes, they did change alot in the new movie but if you read the book there's two stories going on at once ,Trumpkin telling the kids about Caspian and Caspian>Andrew wanted them to meet up with Caspian earlier

  • young people these days dnt know the true meaning of gd films...like thus one, I grew up wid these films (amongst others) and itz so nostalgic to watch them again...I feel sorry 4 the youngsters of 2day who dnt seem to know anything about real art form of cinema and TV

    Thankz again 4 uploading...:)

  • REAL: The major motion picture coming out on December 2nd, 2008. I made the mistake of assuming that the one for rent yesterday was the major motion picture. That is all. I am quite familiar with C.S. Lewis and the Chronicles of Narnia. As I said, the one we rented looked like it was filmed with a handheld video camera in someone's back yard. Just my opinion...thanks for interacting with me though. Have a nice day.

  • What do you mean by the 'REAL' Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian? This film series came 19 years before your 'REAL' one. And the only 'REAL' version would be the book.

  • u idiot, your real one wasn't released till today. at least where i live.

  • @skycop61 - Troll.... this television series had more heart and soul than any over produced piece of hollywood crap could ever have... if you grew up reading these books, and actually got anything out of them, you would understand what I'm talking about.. This is real story-telling - and you, my friend, can troll on all you want - but some of us LOVE re-living this wonderful old series..

  • @thebarnz1983 Wow this was like a year ago, and God bless you for your right to share your comments...just as I have a right to mine. It's not my job to change the opinions of others, but to use this forum to share mine. I appreciate you, and CS :Lewis created a whole magic world. I just don't agree that it was communicated in a way that I found entertaining. But thank you.

  • Jesus, I loved these when I was little. Sunday night I seem to remember. Thanks so much for uploading, haven't seem them since originally being aired! Brilliant

  • Thankz 4 uploading these films...

    There brilliant

  • i used 2 absolutly love the bbc series wen i was little. lolz x x x

  • Loved it, but blimey, Lucy kicking a little girl off a bench! How rude!

  • o yeah! well lucy is fat

  • i miss Ben Barnes :(

and all the gorgeousness he brings

    and Peter and Edmund. lol

  • What the .... he's a litte kid, lay off for gods sake

  • love this <3

  • HAHAHA...fuckin BOOTED that girl off the bench...

  • I can't believe you posted all of these! Thank you so much. They were a big part of my childhood and i keep getting little thrills watching them now. I know the whole thing off by heart!

  • You're very welcome! :D Haha I can't believe I uploaded all of these either. Took me forever to do so. But I was getting plenty of requests to upload the entire series and I thought "hey, anything for fellow BBC Narnia fans!"

  • I love you...

  • i love narnia allot the books and the new movie adapttions

  • I'm amused by all the total retards who have posted here dissing this version.

This version was made nearly 20 years ago, and as a children's TV adaptation. You cannot reasonably compare it with a 2008 blockbuster multi-million dollar film.

We who were lucky enough to see the BBc version all those years ago remember it fondly. It was, at the very least, utterly faithful to the story, well-cast, and well-performed with the resources at hand.

  • The new movie obviously has better special effects, etc... but the acting is utterly, fucking horrible.

All the semi-decent young english actors were already taken by the Harry Potter director, haha...

  • hahahahahaha indeed!!

  • You people can't compere these two films since the one was filmed so many years ago with almost no visual effects.

    They are both great!

  • this was playing every day in tv

  • i am german.... is this really the published at the BBC TV? are all 7 books published or is there a book which could release in the cinema?
