@electrifyingraphics Oh, I should have read this first. Nonetheless, no effects on the video and yes, a "real" drag on frame rate but as I stated in another comment reply, you don't have to have everything on all the time, depends on where your flying.
@a80airbus There are no digital effects whatsoever on the videos. There are other video creators out there that use effects, since I make these videos for Laminar Research, the creators of X-Plane, I assure you what you see is what you get. The audio has been modified because the original audio would not make any sense due to the editing of all the different shots. In addition, the distant shots have no audio, etc. Download the demo and see for yourself. Enjoy...
@electrifyingraphics Oh yeah!!! With all the rendering features on, it will bring even the biggest workhorse of a CPU to a halt. There is a feature in the rendering window that will let you start with minimums and let you add on features and see where you can top it off. Keep in mind, you don't need everything on all the time, depends on where one is flying.
I am a die hard FSX fan, but no I am thinking of reconsidering.

@knivesout33 What inferior graphics? X plane 10 looks better than FSX in many ways. And best thing is that its not unstable and heavy piece of shit like FSX.
@Pvjinflight As I always say, there is room in the world for more than one flight simulator. I usually find that for some reason, FSX fans are more often than not trashing XP then the other way around. Let's just let them keep doing that. We, along with the FAA, NASA, Burt Ruttan, Scaled Composites, PFC and many flight schools across the country know what we know.
@knivesout33 Hmm? Certainly your opinion to which you are very entitled. Daytime footage coming soon. The reason these are night shots is because these were the features highlighted in the new XP10 version. When I have time and a daytime video is created, you'll see that and then you can judge for yourself. And of course, even then, you may not agree. But there is room in the world for more than one simulator.
The environment in this game when I see it on the highway pretty ok, but when I look at the building and deployment of unrealistic buildings that are totally unrealistic for Europe to mention the ugly stretch of buildings surrounding states, as in the U.S. it is still not much later, I see no reason why move after the game has got 70 gigabytes worth nothing ...
@SebyS1946 It will be improved. Anyway unless someone else makes new true simulator X plane is the future, as MS is not going to make one anymore and MS Flight is just arcade game.
@Pvjinflight You mean I didn't have to type all of the above? :-) I should have read this first. It's ironic that sometimes, people complain it's not detailed enough AND it runs to slow :-)
@SebyS1946 The alternative is flat, 2D pictures with occasional 3D buildings? However, to each his own.
As far as Europe is concerned, there may come a time that the developers may remedy that. But for people to totally un-appreciate what an astonishing breakthrough this is in terms of simulations is really sad. @zackhanscom Yes! And the filament in the bulbs aren't quite right either. I think we're getting a little too picky. BUT everyone is entitled to an opinion. And, actually, the lights look different depending on what "virtual lens" one is using when shooting the "virtual footage." The lights look different in a telephoto shot as opposed to a wide angle. It's just the nature of the beast.
@16ISMYNUMBER I agree!!! Sad to say, it's one of many reasons the video doesn't look good. A work in progress trying to get good video out of sims. Keep in mind it's not what they're designed for. One way I'm altering my recording is to record the footage in the "background" while the sim is running. This is significantly improving the frame rate. Resolution and jaggies are still an issue. I think it is REALLY SO awesome that it can simulate highways and cars! :D The lights and lightpoles in the night environment make it seem SO real! It has never been so good before :)))
@Mixter81 It's very realistic when you're on final and you float down over a freeway that has cars moving along below you. I do that in real life when landing on 25R at KLAX and 8 at KBUR.
How much hard drive space does X-plane 10 use please and will my GTX295 be good enough and i am using a Q9650 running at @ 4ghz with 8 gig of DDR 1333Mhz RAM.
I would think if they used DirectX 11 instead of OpenGL because the geometry resides in RAM, they could see a large speed boost. Maybe X-Plane 11? It completely bogs down my system, a 16 gb ram i5 2500k OC'd to 4,2 ghz with GTX 570. A mainstream computer with socket 1155 does not seem "enough" for good HDR visuals. It also doesn't support SLI (X-plane 10), unfortunately.
@Mixter81 Well, I know I can't write a word of code, so I'll stay out of this. But, I know what Austin Meyer and his team can do, and actually, have done, created X-Plane. My usual answer to people who say they know how to do something better than the people who are actually doing it is: Get to it!!! Good luck! Austin answers each and every email himself, maybe you're onto something?
@Lupineproductions Maybe best idea to ask himself? I thought yes, it will need fast RAM and 16 cores to really work with the highest settings. I think maybe could use additional GPUs to offload the geometry and psychics, and also use more GPUs to do shadowing, visual effects it would run much better. It would be awesome to run it on a 4-way GPU setup with 16 cores, and with for example 16 gb 2400 mhz memory with max settings. I know flight sims benefit from faster ram.
@Lupineproductions Yes it is hard to code for multi core/multi gpu systems with lots of long distance geometries. I think it is a challenge, a good one!
@gonudobudo I can't say agree totally. Number one, they can download the free demo to see what they can handle, so there's no misleading going on here. Number two: Austin has a setting that you select and work "up" from there slowly adding features. You will get a comfortable setting where you combine frame rate and visuals. The problems are people are spoiled and they want "everything" are are rarely willing to pay for it. Life is a compromise and so is a flight sim. :-)
@darrenbennett44 I think the videos misled you. The point of the videos is to show off the new features of the new release. Part of the illusion of a sim is to try and recreate the world around you. When landing on 25R at KLAX, you go over the 10 fwy and then the 405 fwy. Often these are landmarks pilots utilize. So when flying the sim, floating over a freeway that has traffic moving in both directions, lights on cars, cars lit by the highway lights all contribute to the overall illusion.
@darrenbennett44 It's vital in a flight simulator to simulate realistic highways and roads because in aviation they can be used for navigation and other flight tools.
@AMT4245 sure, but that is only for real vfr Nav... if you want to make a vfr flight you need also a VERY accurate scenery, not only roads and some houses. I dont think actual sims can provide a good vfr experience atm.
The only thing that can be close to a real vfr could be a flight with some Orbx scenery.
@alphasephirot I use VFR Photographic scenery for the UK and I can plan and fly a real VFR flight with my charts. My own house is on there as is everything else I can see from the air when I do a PPL lesson in the same area. This VFR scenery is also available for X Plane.
holy shit that is amen, it is like they say for the future .. even if you have the highest highend computer it doesnt really work on extreme settings ;)
@BF5099 - Unfortunately the Geforce 540M is not going to be able to run this very well. It is comparable to desktop graphics cards of about 5-6 years ago. You can try taking the settings down.
I can tell this stuff is very heavy on your computer, I am running this on a i5 2500k @ 4 ghz with GTX 570 and I can't enable all settings without FPS tanking. What settings are optimal? I think I need a 16-core behemoth and 7970 @ 1200/1700... It even says that it can utilize 16 cores!
@Mixter81 - I just read that. I have the 2500k too but haven't tried this sim yet. Maybe the i7 would be better with its hyperthreading abilities. Amazing that it can use a 16 core system.
@Mixter81 Most people have no concept of what it takes to calculate and the allocate all of the actions required to get the sim to do what it does. This isn't "Pong." ;-)
@Lupineproductions Yes indeed it is heavy number crunching going on to calculate everything, this is realistic flight simulator and really a good one. X-plane is in development and we will se better versions, maybe DX 11 with X-plane 11 so it is very exciting process!
Well, this video is really nice. Nice music, nice graphics, nice editing...
But.
Guys, this is the FIRST video I see on your web page. Web page dedicated to your FLIGHT simulator. And yet, most of the time, this video is showing CARS.
@redguy333 If you're talking about the x-plane.com site, the 1st video is showing the world as that's the most significant change in the new v.10 release. The 2nd video, which for a long time was the 1st video, shows a 747 lifting off. XP is already a well known flight sim. This is not a video introducing the XP Flight Sim to the world, it's a new version release. The most dramatic features of the new release have to do with the buildings, cars, ability to create a 3D city on the fly, etc.,
@MrLOMPST99 Ive flown in both, has FSX for a long time, but my computer behaved in XP9 a lot better and i was able to crank up the graphics more with the same computing need.
@MrLOMPST99 You will hear all kinds of replies. It depends on what you're looking for. If you want to get an idea of what people think, read these comments. And then, download the demo for XP10 and judge for yourself. Good luck!
@BriefmomentOfficial I shoot both real planes sims, some of my virtual footage crosses the line. I don't want to mislead the viewer with regard to the visuals, I don't do anything to the footage, what you see is what you get. I do play with the audio because the actual audio wouldn't make any sense once the footage is edited. For example: When I have a telephone shot of the plane, the sim has no sound! I'm not trying to mislead anyone, they can always download the demo and see for themselves.
@Demizee99 I wish I could answer that question for you but since all I utilize is XP, I don't know. Someone else may jump in with an answer. I can tell you that the new XP10 with all the bells and whistles turned on takes a big hit on your computer. BUT, you don't have to have everything turned on all the time. It depends on where your flying.
Sorry for nitpicking but in real world, commercial airplane turn off the cabin light when takeoff/landing. In this video the cabin light is turned on when takeoff/landing 0:41 , 0:48 , 1:10 . A bug?
@Rufus1250 Not until someone makes a "aircraft" in the shape of a police car. Which I know will undoubtedly happen as it did in XP9. But the ones that are driving around are not available for driving.
@Eddiefry There are still lots of folks out there who prefer FSX and that's fine. Everyone has an opinion. That's what keeps everyone striving to make their product better, good competition. I've never owned a PC in my life so for me, the choice has always been very easy. Enjoy XP10.
@Lupineproductions Like you, Eddie, I've had a Mac and nothing else so...
Though I believe for a very short time, Microsoft offered it's flight sim for the Mac. Does anyone recall that? But my relationship with Mac goes back to the beginning, and I mean the beginning. I'm 56 years old, the same age as Steve Jobs when he passed. He was a hero, regardless of his chaotic personality :-)
I have a great deal of respect for FSX but my choice is XP, special now with XP10
@Aang6678 Not always, my first experience of XP was around the time FS2k was around, it was very bland and flat back then. I remember there weren't many planes either, you had to pretty much use the tools built in to make them all yourself.
It's got a lot to do to take over from FS, even though FS is dead now. For shame really, I must admit to a lot of happy hours in the cockpits of various add-ons for FS9.
@jboweruk I actually remember when FS was nothing but green lines on a black background and the only game in town. It's amazing how spoiled we are these days. I get complaints because the doors handles don't look real on the planes :-)
It is a shame Microsoft dropped support for FS. Competition is good for the advancement of product. Though I am and have always been a XP user from the beginning (I'm a Mac guy and have been from the beginning), I think both sims have their pluses and minuses.
@polismanful Hmmm? I'm not a techie but I'm assuming there's a lot of computing taking place here. But a "form" of it may come to iPhone. After all, a version of X-Plane is already available for the iPhone so one never knows what the brilliance of Austin Meyer will do...
@Ninos93xxxNinos Never, ever hate yourself!!! Not for any reason! Okay, the therapy session is over but I get your point :-) Hopefully soon you'll have a decent desktop and get to fly this wonderful sim. In the meantime, find a friend who's got a good desktop and chip in for the sim and be his or her co-pilot! Good luck!
@bobtheevilvillain I happen to agree XP is much better. For all kinds of different reasons, mostly having to do with flight dynamics and flight characteristics but now we're approaching what's commonly referred to as "eye candy" and MFS has led the way for a long time but XP has now, I think caught up and possibly surpassed in that area. Enjoy!!!
@kakajax And this is just the beginning. As the betas come out, you'll see significant improvements from Laminar Research. As Austin says "Have at it..." Enjoy!
@CJSHM It's the scenery that ships with XP10. It's Seattle Tacoma. As time goes by, lots of people in the community will be creating and developing other areas as has been the case with XP with its entire history.
@daggertom1 I don't know much about that issue. But others may chime in to answer that question. I do know that it's a drain depending on what features you have turned on. However, XP10 has a feature in the rendering window that you can select and it starts you off with the minimal required features to run at full speed and animation. You can then slowly increase features and see where your PC takes a hit.
@orlondo1 That's awesome!!! I recently recorded it off a public site!!! I live in Los Angeles. I actually live just below the pattern at KVNY. The perfect place for an aviation enthusiast. Is it the female voice? I do a lot of aerial photography with a friend "WestCoast Aerial" His name is Mark Holtzman and we chat with you folks as well as many others in the SoCal area to get clearances in Class B air space, etc. We might have even chatted. It is truly a very small world. Give him/her my best.
Which PC components were used with this video? And another question: I've got a MacBook Pro - 2.2 Ghz Quad-Core i7, 8 Gb DDR3-RAM 1333 Mhz and AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB graphic chip - which are the best Rendering Options for it?
I'm sorry if there are some mistakes in the text. I'm from Switzerland.
So what does that Vid tells us? There are only united 747, Trucks and way too strong light sources in this game? Sorry but during a 5 hours flight im 4,30 on FL 340 or above and wont see that stuff anyway.. Besides the look is way to shiny and catchy.
@Nagelfar123 If I showed all planes and features of XP10, the film would be, as you said 5 hours! This is a "sizzle reel," designed to catch someones eye. The download is available for FREE at the site. Anyone can judge for themselves whether the flight sim (not game) is for them by getting the sim and flying it. And I couldn't agree with you more, what you see here is not what you'd see from the cockpit, that's not the point of these "particular" marketing pieces. Thanks for the comment.

Mixter81 1 month ago
@Mixter81 Well, I know I can't write a word of code, so I'll stay out of this. But, I know what Austin Meyer and his team can do, and actually, have done, created X-Plane. My usual answer to people who say they know how to do something better than the people who are actually doing it is: Get to it!!! Good luck! Austin answers each and every email himself, maybe you're onto something?
Lupineproductions 3 weeks ago
@Lupineproductions Maybe best idea to ask himself? I thought yes, it will need fast RAM and 16 cores to really work with the highest settings. I think maybe could use additional GPUs to offload the geometry and psychics, and also use more GPUs to do shadowing, visual effects it would run much better. It would be awesome to run it on a 4-way GPU setup with 16 cores, and with for example 16 gb 2400 mhz memory with max settings. I know flight sims benefit from faster ram.
Mixter81 3 weeks ago
@Lupineproductions Yes it is hard to code for multi core/multi gpu systems with lots of long distance geometries. I think it is a challenge, a good one!
Mixter81 3 weeks ago
might have good scenery and graphics but i can guaranty u that 80% of the people who buy it cannot run it on the settings to make it look good.
gonudobudo 1 month ago
@gonudobudo I can't say agree totally. Number one, they can download the free demo to see what they can handle, so there's no misleading going on here. Number two: Austin has a setting that you select and work "up" from there slowly adding features. You will get a comfortable setting where you combine frame rate and visuals. The problems are people are spoiled and they want "everything" are are rarely willing to pay for it. Life is a compromise and so is a flight sim. :-)
Lupineproductions 3 weeks ago
should call it highway simulator..
darrenbennett44 1 month ago 36
@darrenbennett44 I think the videos misled you. The point of the videos is to show off the new features of the new release. Part of the illusion of a sim is to try and recreate the world around you. When landing on 25R at KLAX, you go over the 10 fwy and then the 405 fwy. Often these are landmarks pilots utilize. So when flying the sim, floating over a freeway that has traffic moving in both directions, lights on cars, cars lit by the highway lights all contribute to the overall illusion.
Lupineproductions 3 weeks ago
@darrenbennett44 It's vital in a flight simulator to simulate realistic highways and roads because in aviation they can be used for navigation and other flight tools.
AMT4245 2 weeks ago
@AMT4245 sure, but that is only for real vfr Nav... if you want to make a vfr flight you need also a VERY accurate scenery, not only roads and some houses. I dont think actual sims can provide a good vfr experience atm.
The only thing that can be close to a real vfr could be a flight with some Orbx scenery.
alphasephirot 2 weeks ago
@alphasephirot I use VFR Photographic scenery for the UK and I can plan and fly a real VFR flight with my charts. My own house is on there as is everything else I can see from the air when I do a PPL lesson in the same area. This VFR scenery is also available for X Plane.

BF5099 1 month ago
@BF5099 - Unfortunately the Geforce 540M is not going to be able to run this very well. It is comparable to desktop graphics cards of about 5-6 years ago. You can try taking the settings down.

@karl75m Thanks, I have but I guess it's not compatible, but thanks a lot for your help.
BF5099 1 month ago
I can tell this stuff is very heavy on your computer, I am running this on a i5 2500k @ 4 ghz with GTX 570 and I can't enable all settings without FPS tanking. What settings are optimal? I think I need a 16-core behemoth and 7970 @ 1200/1700... It even says that it can utilize 16 cores!
Mixter81 1 month ago
@Mixter81 - I just read that. I have the 2500k too but haven't tried this sim yet. Maybe the i7 would be better with its hyperthreading abilities. Amazing that it can use a 16 core system.

And yet, most of the time, this video is showing CARS.
redguy333 1 month ago
@redguy333 If you're talking about the x-plane.com site, the 1st video is showing the world as that's the most significant change in the new v.10 release. The 2nd video, which for a long time was the 1st video, shows a 747 lifting off. XP is already a well known flight sim. This is not a video introducing the XP Flight Sim to the world, it's a new version release. The most dramatic features of the new release have to do with the buildings, cars, ability to create a 3D city on the fly, etc.,

Laminar Research, I swear you guys went to an airport and filmed this, because your simulator looks so real!
BriefmomentOfficial 1 month ago
@BriefmomentOfficial I shoot both real planes sims, some of my virtual footage crosses the line. I don't want to mislead the viewer with regard to the visuals, I don't do anything to the footage, what you see is what you get. I do play with the audio because the actual audio wouldn't make any sense once the footage is edited. For example: When I have a telephone shot of the plane, the sim has no sound! I'm not trying to mislead anyone, they can always download the demo and see for themselves.

Demizee99 1 month ago
@Demizee99 I wish I could answer that question for you but since all I utilize is XP, I don't know. Someone else may jump in with an answer. I can tell you that the new XP10 with all the bells and whistles turned on takes a big hit on your computer. BUT, you don't have to have everything turned on all the time. It depends on where your flying.
Lupineproductions 3 weeks ago
Sorry for nitpicking but in real world, commercial airplane turn off the cabin light when takeoff/landing. In this video the cabin light is turned on when takeoff/landing 0:41 , 0:48 , 1:10 . A bug?

@Eddiefry There are still lots of folks out there who prefer FSX and that's fine. Everyone has an opinion. That's what keeps everyone striving to make their product better, good competition. I've never owned a PC in my life so for me, the choice has always been very easy. Enjoy XP10.
Lupineproductions 1 month ago
@Lupineproductions Like you, Eddie, I've had a Mac and nothing else so...
Though I believe for a very short time, Microsoft offered it's flight sim for the Mac. Does anyone recall that? But my relationship with Mac goes back to the beginning, and I mean the beginning. I'm 56 years old, the same age as Steve Jobs when he passed. He was a hero, regardless of his chaotic personality :-)
I have a great deal of respect for FSX but my choice is XP, special now with XP10
Lupineproductions 3 weeks ago
@Eddiefry fsx has better aircraft models, but XPlane has always had better scenery.

@Aang6678 and roads
ioannis21shum 1 month ago
@Aang6678 Not always, my first experience of XP was around the time FS2k was around, it was very bland and flat back then. I remember there weren't many planes either, you had to pretty much use the tools built in to make them all yourself.
It's got a lot to do to take over from FS, even though FS is dead now. For shame really, I must admit to a lot of happy hours in the cockpits of various add-ons for FS9.
jboweruk 1 month ago
@jboweruk I actually remember when FS was nothing but green lines on a black background and the only game in town. It's amazing how spoiled we are these days. I get complaints because the doors handles don't look real on the planes :-)
It is a shame Microsoft dropped support for FS. Competition is good for the advancement of product. Though I am and have always been a XP user from the beginning (I'm a Mac guy and have been from the beginning), I think both sims have their pluses and minuses.

Enjoy!!!

What seattle scenery is used?
CJSHM 1 month ago
@CJSHM It's the scenery that ships with XP10. It's Seattle Tacoma. As time goes by, lots of people in the community will be creating and developing other areas as has been the case with XP with its entire history.

I'm judging by the intense number of vehicles/glowing lights this won't run on a pentium 4.. lol :(
daggertom1 1 month ago
@daggertom1 I don't know much about that issue. But others may chime in to answer that question. I do know that it's a drain depending on what features you have turned on. However, XP10 has a feature in the rendering window that you can select and it starts you off with the minimal required features to run at full speed and animation. You can then slowly increase features and see where your PC takes a hit.

Nagelfar123 1 month ago
@Nagelfar123 If I showed all planes and features of XP10, the film would be, as you said 5 hours! This is a "sizzle reel," designed to catch someones eye. The download is available for FREE at the site. Anyone can judge for themselves whether the flight sim (not game) is for them by getting the sim and flying it. And I couldn't agree with you more, what you see here is not what you'd see from the cockpit, that's not the point of these "particular" marketing pieces. Thanks for the comment.
