The Codex Astartes among other things insists that a chapter should number 1000 space marines. During the Horus Heresy when they were still a Legion it is mentioned that there are between 30, 000 and 40,000 Ultramarines, but this is 10,000 years before the 40k is set. If they were going to make one about the Ultramarines, it would've been pretty sick if they'd have done it off the book Dead Sky, Black Sun...such a sick book. Otherwise, if they were going to make a fresh attempt to get people interested I'd think something with the Imperial Guard and MAYBE some involvement with the Space Marines would've been a better idea than simply an Ultramarines movie...but hey thats just my opinion.

The Art Direction they are taking the movie with the crusty old space marine is horrible. I think people would of preferred a better looking art direction DAWN of War 2 took in their opening Scene.

Perhaps, but if you pit the Ultramarines against the Knight the Knights will loose, every time. Their simply outnumbered and outgunned. Believe me, I play the Grey Knights, I've read the books. Every Knight brought together will only be a several thousand, where as the UM's have hundreds of thousands if not more.
While personally I would have preferred to see a film about the Wolves, maybe an inquisitor, I have hopes here ^_^

The Codex states that a chapter is a 1000 marines, now tell why would the chapter that wrote the Codex defy it? All those thousands were dispersed into separate chapters after the Heresy. Also outgunned? Well every knight has a storm bolter as standard issued, better then a normal bolter. Also the Knights are said to have better training then other chapters, now this could be false but still.

You are full of shit. The Ultramarines are the strictest of the strict adherents to the Codex Astartes since their Primarch actually wrote the damn thing, and as such they only number a thousand, including Scouts. Well where the Space Marines are an important part of the Impirium, to say their the only defense aganist the alien threat is not true. After all there is also the Inquesition, the Officio Assassinorum, the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Planetary Defense Forces, the Imperial Navy, and of course the Imperial Guard. It is writen that there is less than 1 Space Marine for every planet in the Imperium, without these other Military arms the Imperium simply could not stand, and would fall to the ages.
its just a buzzword when it comes to 40k in general i mean the ultramarines are the most well known space marine chapters but in cannon the most overpowered are the grey knights. The ultramarines being the poster boys of 40k and this being the first proper 40k movie there going to through out a lot of bold statements to make them seem like the only hope.
@CrazyHarrow considerin game workshop has worked very very closley with codex pictures to prevent this from happenin i doubt it. do you know how long its taken some one to convince GW to allow a proper movie???
They should have done a less known chapter, but since they're doing Ultramarines, are they going to do a historic battle, such as the Democales Gulf Crusade, Siege of Ultramar, or the Space marines fighting the World Eater, because I would want to see them fight the only Necron ship, except for the fact that even the Space Marines sucked during that battle.......
Phew, better graphics would be nice. Sure you'll be getting all the fans of the games going to watch the film, but it isn't going to appeal much to the mainstream cinema goers if it can't compare with the other total SGI films out right now. Hopefully they'll improve the graphics as at the moment they seem actually worse than those for the the Dawn of War and Mark of Chaos games, but that's just my opinion.=P

The Ultramarines have always been the staple of the WH 40K Series, thanks to Dan Abnett and his awesome writing. It built the largest fan base and exposed the 40k universe to most of us that got into the books, it only makes sense to give the honor of the movie to Dan Abnetts creation, the mighty Ultramarines!

Im glad they are making a 40K movie at last and should be good, but i wish instead of complete C G I they were to make an epic trilogy filmed with actors of the Horus Heresy. Start with the rise of the emperor, the expansion of the imperium , creation of the primarchs and space marines, the betrayal of horus and the resulting conflicts, and the climax the battle of terra in the third film. That would be awsome!

@Galamere Ahh, dude? Ultramarines do not have thousands upon thousands, neither do Grey Knights. The Codex states that a chapter is a 1000 marines, now tell why would the chapter that wrote the Codex defy it? All those thousands were dispersed into separate chapters after the Heresy. Also outgunned? Well every knight has a storm bolter as standard issued, better then a normal bolter. Also the Knights are said to have better training then other chapters, now this could be false but still.

@Galamere actualy, the exact number of grey knights are unknown, however a space marine chapter (like the ultramarines) are always around 1000 give or take (some chapters number more than thousand, for example the space wolves (around 1300-1500) and the Black templars whos numbers are unknown (estimated strenght is about 5000-6000)

You are full of shit. The Ultramarines are the strictest of the strict adherents to the Codex Astartes since their Primarch actually wrote the damn thing, and as such they only number a thousand, including Scouts. The Grey Knights, nobody really knows how many there are, but estimates are usually given in the fluff at around three thousand, and each one of them is is a Nemesis Force Weapon packing psyker badass.

@Galamere Every space-marine chapter after the Second Founding has about ( a little more or less) of 1.000 space marines. That's the Law of the Codex Astartes. And the Ultramarines are the personification of the Codex. So they too are about 1.000.

@Galamere actually with the exception of a few like the black templars, most chapters only have about a thousand space marines at any given time, so the grey knights would win, seeing as nearly every one of them is a psyker.

@Galamere there is only one thousand of Blue Smurfs Marines, as they follow the Codex Astartes. There is a similar number of GK, but they are better equipped and they are the "army" of the hordo ereticus,the inquisition. I don't say that the GK 'll win for sure,i say that they 'll probably annichilate themselves...their power is almost equal

@Galamere Actually, as far as I know, the chapters are designed to number exactly 1000 brothers each. Now, that doesn't necessarily hold true for those who don't adhere to the Codex Astartes all that strictly, such as the Space Wolves, but it definitely does for the Ultramarines (Guillaume wrote the Codex, after all). So, at least in theory, there are exactly as many Grey Knights as there are Ultramarines (not counting second and further foundings, of course).

@Galamere Well yeah, the Ultramarines have more soldiers, but that doesn't make them great. The Grey Knights are literally the most elite space marines around, how many of them there are is irrelevant when talking about the "greatest of them all".
Imagine if numbers actually counted toward that designation - the Imperial Guard would be regarded higher than the Space Marines :P

Well where the Space Marines are an important part of the Impirium, to say their the only defense aganist the alien threat is not true. After all there is also the Inquesition, the Officio Assassinorum, the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Planetary Defense Forces, the Imperial Navy, and of course the Imperial Guard. It is writen that there is less than 1 Space Marine for every planet in the Imperium, without these other Military arms the Imperium simply could not stand, and would fall to the ages.

Phew, better graphics would be nice. Sure you'll be getting all the fans of the games going to watch the film, but it isn't going to appeal much to the mainstream cinema goers if it can't compare with the other total SGI films out right now. Hopefully they'll improve the graphics as at the moment they seem actually worse than those for the the Dawn of War and Mark of Chaos games, but that's just my opinion.=P

The Ultramarines have always been the staple of the WH 40K Series, thanks to Dan Abnett and his awesome writing. Im glad they are making a 40K movie at last and should be good, but i wish instead of complete C G I they were to make an epic trilogy filmed with actors of the Horus Heresy. Start with the rise of the emperor, the expansion of the imperium , creation of the primarchs and space marines, the betrayal of horus and the resulting conflicts, and the climax the battle of terra in the third film. That would be awsome!
