  • Would love to divorce my wife

  • I think it's good japanese women are finally making strives and pushing forward with breaking gender gaps, fufilling their choice careers, and the glass ceiling in japan.

  • Ok, so those men work almost their whole life, for their family, and when they retire their wifes start whining because they don't want to spend that much time with them? weak

  • this could all be stoped if they changed that co-operate work system. if husbands were coming home to their wives earlier and maybe getting more time to spend witht hem, then maybe they would get a chance to bond with each other and grow a better relationship. so when retirement comes it wont be like all of a sudden starting a new life with this stranger. boundaries and etc would have already been set out long before. plus it wud let the men socialise more and have more friends so they wouldnt

  • feminism is a sham ... try humanism and see how that works, eh ?

instead of going into male bashing or female bashing, why not look into the underlying culture ... ?

i wouldn't want my life to be my work an nothing else... these women say they were at home cooking and having hobbies while their men were busting their balls at work... now they complain because they have to cook lunch , pfff.

i don't approve of anyone bossing someone around, though ... in many cultures both genders have issues

  • @pipobun those issues are not gender issues, but HUMAN issues. why not try understand the root of the problem , that causes both men and women to be bad and fix that. yes, both men and women can be bad, one no less than the other.... and that is why i say it again...

why not try humanism and see how that works ? : )

  • @pipobun I AGREE, pipobun!

  • that is why Japanese population declined

  • i was told that japanese women don't hold high places and never will..and that they don't have many rights..i was told this by a muslim because we were discussing women's rights in muslim countries, and he was giving me examples of other countries,,like japan..so i would like a japanese woman to tell me the situation there,if she could..thanks

  • 0:28 thats right japan get ready to turn into the USA, first less marriage, then more divorce, next step is teens to early 20s having kids out of wedlock (single mothers) and then....STD,

i dont care what anyone wants to say this is what WILL happen with this 'change' thats taking japan. it happened in the usa, europe (and a few other places)....it will happen to japan....shit its happening right now

  • its not a Culture shift that's making Japanese women work.

The real reason for this change is to do with Japanese economy.

  • Interesting. Time for Part 2.

  • Informative.....!!!

    It makes me think:-)

  • It seems to me that the host is intent on exoticizing Japanese gender relations and demonizing Japanese men. What an Orientalist.

  • who commits most of the crimes ? who rapes and starts war? I think men are by far a lot more selfish.

  • i think men and women can be selfish in different ways- ultimately we are all after something....i guess that makes us all selfish?

  • @khalilahinjapan No woman are.

  • so are men

  • Many of these issues have been in these relationships for years. I think the wives have been rather lucky to stay at home and not work. As for the men they need to take a more active role and be responsible for their own destiny. I am married to a Japanese woman who is mother and works in the corporate sector. Even though I am able take care of things at home and myself she sometimes get mad if I do too much. I am glad we can have some balance and that our marriage of 10 years is still strong.

  • A person is lucky to stay at home if that's what they want. The problem is when someone doesn't enjoy staying home and yet has to.

And congratulations on your strong marriage. :)

  • Kaori speaks the truth. The male has percieved power while the female actually wields the power. Japanese women are very wise.

  • and yet western society views japanese women as weak.

  • feminism is prominent in the US and the UK... and not in places like france, japan, sweden...

  • are you not paying attention? feminism is being exported to Japan and other Asian countries.

As a matter of fact, some places in Asian towns have sex-segregated city buses, and businesses.

  • another great episode

  • At least, the younger Japanese panelist puts the griping housewives complaints in some perspective. These Japanese coretirees are hardly victims. They're simply getting to know their husbands for the first time in their lives.

  • What does it mean? It means MacArthur's post war policies are starting to kick in.

  • well I understand the Japanese women look for younger men, so they can boss them around. many women don't worry about their futures because they live with their parents into their 40's.

  • Everywoman is a good show. I just wish I could watch this on TV my satellite dish doesn't get this channel =/

  • And I thought I was the only one!

  • thanks al jazeera for putting everywoman (and wonderful programs like these on youtube). i love learning about other cultures.
