He is not really afraid of dogs, he acts like that cause we can't be near dog's face. It's dangerous, and can make really serious injures. So by the way he isn't afraid of dogs. What does he do? Calm down dogs and shows them the way to be positive. I've got Dog Whisperer book. So I know how to act when that happens.

Dogs are not born with human based emotions and Cesar is only trying to show people they need to give the dogs rules, half of the people in the world don't even give their children rules anymore. I don't think hes afraid of dogs, I've worked with aggressive dogs, in the same situation. Aggresive dog with a muzzle, if the dog lunges at me I will go the opposite direction naturaly. Sometimes a jolt will go through my body and I will panic for a second or two but I quickly go back into a calm state. That doesn't make me scared of dogs.
I'd love to see the critics in action! Deal with an aggressive dog with your tender loving care and see if you don't get your ass handed to you lol! If the dog is aggressive, deal with it don't give it a fucking treat. "once they shut down, any training is usless" says crysania4, that tells me how little you know. Training is not usless. A dog needs to be raised with both positive and negative reinforcement.
However, when you train your dog (for competitions or whatever) it's important to use positive methods. Or else the dog won't think it's fun and will lose interest.
A dog should obey it's owner because it wants to, not out of fear.
Ceasr user pinch coller and all dogs can be treated with positive renfocrement you just have to take the time and go too a go trainer you dont want your dog to be scared of you
Cesar is hopeless and has you all fooled. He bullies the dogs. Read their body language. This is why the RSPCA, Dogs Trust etc have put out a mutual statement about his conduct.
You research dogs in their natural environment, the pack leader treats their group very similar. You watch his videos, you will see the dogs gain trust.
It's pretty clear that you (and most people here) don't know much about dogs. Dogs in their natural environment form loose social groups, no strict hierarchy, therefore no pack (even wolf "packs" are nothing more than family groups). The dogs on Cesar's show do not trust him. They are shut down out of fear. When he shoves them on their side and they "submit" it's because they have completely shut down. NOT the way you want to train a dog.
The only reason people keep hatin on Cesar is because he has become so popular and his methods are being used around the world. People are so insecure that they just can't live and let live if they see someone is changing the world for the better and it's not their way they have to say somethin crappy. Cesar is excellent at what he does and that's why some people hate him so much, but not the people whos lives he changed for the better! So yea. Keep hatin. Cesar will keep rockin. so there.

It actually has nothing to do with that. I consider him of little merit (except maybe his speaking out against BSL). The people I do think who are of genuine merit are Patricia McConnell, Pat Miller, Ian Dunbar, and some others who are respected dog trainers, behaviorists, and authors who really understand dogs and don't train through fear and pain.
No. We don't like his "training" because it's not "changing the world for the better." In fact, he's using old, outdated methods that instill fear in your dog. Fear usually begets aggression. It's dangerous and many trainers are left to pick up the pieces after someone has damaged their dog using his methods.
Someday the world will wake up and realize how wrong Cesar is and how little he actually knows about dogs.
The reason he uses the methods that he does, is only because the dogs on his show have serious issues, if the dog is in basic training then he says you can use positive reinforcement!

Cesar uses these methods on dogs with severe behavior problems. On the average dog, positive reinforcement is usually enough, but these dogs have regressed so far that they need to relearn boundaries. Cesar does that.
He has never seriously hurt a dog. This is what dogs are built for.
It would be worse if he let the dog be given away or put to sleep or continue living in a constant state of fear.

@maximum411 You should read Pamela Dennison's Bringing Light to Shadow. She worked with a fear aggressive dog and stopped it from being aggressive all through positive training. One CAN and SHOULD work with aggressive dogs with positive training, even more so than anything else, because aggression is most frequently caused by fear.
Cesar simply causes the dogs to shut down. That is not training them, not gaining their trust. And it's just making the dog into a ticking time bomb.

Has anyone with their comments ever watch the show? Cesar is a behaviorist so rarely will you see all the excitement of "Dog Training' he is a behaviorist AND AGAIN this show is based on owners that lost all control. They do need someone else to step in. I'm sure, you as a dog trainer can take a dog from it's owner and the dog acts completely different. If you are gaining your control back with a aggressive or hyper dog you have to start somewhere and it isn't with a mouth full of treats.

It's always easy to "claim" you're better than someone else, proving it is an entirely different matter. I can't count how many trainers/behaviorists there are out there who all claim they're better than the next person. When in reality you can probably learn a little something from everyone.

THAT is dog abuse. What Cesar does is different. He uses quick little motions that brings the dog's attention back to him. No dog has ever been "abused" by him. Look at that massive pack he has. Do they look abused? No.

Yes, these people need someone to step in. But not someone who uses harsh punishments. Most of these dogs are SCARED and don't need someone who will make them more frightened. Once they've shut down, any training is useless.
I don't agree with all of Cesars techniques, but in his defense, being hit with a muzzle made of iron is not very pleasant. He probably got startled by that dogs reaction and didn't want to get hit in the face. Every dog is different, and requires different learningtechniques.

And aggression isn't just caused by fear, it just sounds like a good answer. Dogs are not born with human based emotions and Cesar is only trying to show people they need to give the dogs rules, half of the people in the world don't even give their children rules anymore. It's like children don't spank them that's abuse. Let's just let every dog run around whilst we throw treats at them I think that's the solution then when they attack us put it them sleep.

I don't think hes afraid of dogs, I've worked with aggressive dogs, in the same situation. Aggresive dog with a muzzle, if the dog lunges at me I will go the opposite direction naturaly. Sometimes a jolt will go through my body and I will panic for a second or two but I quickly go back into a calm state. That doesn't make me scared of dogs.

A dog needs to be raised with both positive and negative reinforcement.
However, when you train your dog (for competitions or whatever) it's important to use positive methods. Or else the dog won't think it's fun and will lose interest.
A dog should obey it's owner because it wants to, not out of fear.

It's pretty clear that you (and most people here) don't know much about dogs. Dogs in their natural environment form loose social groups, no strict hierarchy, therefore no pack (even wolf "packs" are nothing more than family groups). The dogs on Cesar's show do not trust him. They are shut down out of fear. When he shoves them on their side and they "submit" it's because they have completely shut down. NOT the way you want to train a dog.

People are so insecure that they just can't live and let live if they see someone is changing the world for the better and it's not their way they have to say somethin crappy. It actually has nothing to do with that. I consider him of little merit (except maybe his speaking out against BSL). The people I do think who are of genuine merit are Patricia McConnell, Pat Miller, Ian Dunbar, and some others who are respected dog trainers, behaviorists, and authors who really understand dogs and don't train through fear and pain.

No. We don't like his "training" because it's not "changing the world for the better." In fact, he's using old, outdated methods that instill fear in your dog. Fear usually begets aggression. It's dangerous and many trainers are left to pick up the pieces after someone has damaged their dog using his methods.
Someday the world will wake up and realize how wrong Cesar is and how little he actually knows about dogs.

Cesar uses these methods on dogs with severe behavior problems. On the average dog, positive reinforcement is usually enough, but these dogs have regressed so far that they need to relearn boundaries. Cesar does that.
He has never seriously hurt a dog. This is what dogs are built for.
It would be worse if he let the dog be given away or put to sleep or continue living in a constant state of fear.
By the way, this video is STUPID. He's not scared of dogs, he just doesn't want to get BITTEN.

@maximum411 You should read Pamela Dennison's Bringing Light to Shadow. She worked with a fear aggressive dog and stopped it from being aggressive all through positive training. One CAN and SHOULD work with aggressive dogs with positive training, even more so than anything else, because aggression is most frequently caused by fear.
Cesar simply causes the dogs to shut down. That is not training them, not gaining their trust. And it's just making the dog into a ticking time bomb.

Cesar is a behaviorist so rarely will you see all the excitement of "Dog Training' he is a behaviorist AND AGAIN this show is based on owners that lost all control. They do need someone else to step in. I'm sure, you as a dog trainer can take a dog from it's owner and the dog acts completely different. If you are gaining your control back with a aggressive or hyper dog you have to start somewhere and it isn't with a mouth full of treats.

Cesar's dogs are no different than the dogs we meet in our work, the difference is that we teach the dog not to be afraid with calm and positive reinforcement, Cesar method only suppress the behavior, the dog haven't learned that other dogs are okay(example)

Nobody have ever given me scientific information, or shown me studies of dog or wolf behavior that would back up his methods, on the contrary.
I'm not a direct competitor, I'm just a dog therapist who is horrified of how many people misinterpret dog behavior, and the biggest mistake is to put wrong and harmfull information on TV, they actually show his harmfull behavior on the shows, but fans apparently doesn't have the ability to see the difference.

"Abusing" a dog is chaining them up when they're a puppy, leaving them out there, never feeding them, never giving them positive human contact, letting the chain/collar grow into their neck, letting them get covered in ticks, fleas and filled to the brim with parasites. THAT is dog abuse. What Cesar does is different. He uses quick little motions that brings the dog's attention back to him. No dog has ever been "abused" by him. Look at that massive pack he has. Do they look abused? No.

@royalk9salon Have I watched the show? Yes. And I've read one of his books. First of all, Cesar is NOT a behaviorist. No more so than Britney is a musician. In fact, he knows little about dog behavior. All his ideas are based in what we knew 30+ years ago.
Yes, these people need someone to step in. But not someone who uses harsh punishments. Most of these dogs are SCARED and don't need someone who will make them more frightened. Once they've shut down, any training is useless.

I don't agree with all of Cesars techniques, but in his defense, being hit with a muzzle made of iron is not very pleasant. He probably got startled by that dogs reaction and didn't want to get hit in the face. Every dog is different, and requires different learningtechniques.
