  • good review...gonna go buy one if this only place i know that has one takes my 18-55 and 55-200 lenses.

eighter you were nervous or you have adhd...go get some ritalin =)

  • Have you noticed if your lens make a clicking sound when you half press the shutter when the VR is on?

I found mine sounds very loud when compared with my 18-105 VR.

    Thanks

  • is it worth selling my 18-55 vr and 50-200mm lenses to buy this? My friend has been telling me that it is worth it, but i care to disagree

  • @HenrytheBrit I did, but that depends how important it is for you to have just one lens that can do it all. With the 18-200mm you never really have to take the lens off which helps with dust and stuff.

  • @HenrytheBrit i don'n think that anybody would want to buy the 18mm-55mm because that's the lens that you get with the camera

  • @volrath98 You can get $80 for them on ebay lol

  • Hi, what's the hood on 18-200?

    Thank you!

  • he has pretty hands

  • i was wondering if the nikon 18-55 and the 55-200 lenses have manual focusing

cuz i only see the zooming ring

  • @person2310 yes they are just very thin

  • @MaarccsSwhiite 18-55 VR

  • newbie here, may I know whats the purpose of a lens hood? Besides looking cool.

  • @Denso2131 if you are shooting into the sun it helps reduce glare

  • I you had to choose between the 70-300mm VR and this one which would you go for and for what reasons? I cab't choose between the two.

  • Hey mate, good review but you might wanna show some sort of evidence in the future to what your saying, possibly by showing comparing photos from the lens your reviewing to other lenses. Other than that keep making vids.

  • it has bigger lens hood cover than the new one?

  • thanks for your video, im thinking of upgrading to a 18-200 and your video was really informative. I dont care about your shaking legs .... i thought you were just doing an elvis impression!

  • lots of info ! but pls stop shaking legs ! :O

  • Nice 1st video but please can you not repeat the infomation you are giving

    Keep Shootin

  • hhaha your leg is dancing man !!! hahahaha !

  • Thank you for the information. I've been thinking about the 18-200mm lense. You answered a few questions.

As a side note; you made me clench my teeth when you bang your lenses!!!

  • @MaarccsSwhiite horrible question asker says what?

If you can't even research this shit yourself, you don't need to upgrade

  • I've got a d700, do you think that would be a good all rounder lens for going out and capturing both buildings landscapes and portraits?

  • @MelekPt Im wondering if this is a serious question.

  • Man you were reaaaaaaally nervous weren't you?

  • @hcoll well this was my first video but I was using a point and shoot as a video camera so i had to rush to get all of this on film.

  • @QQQQcon I see. You have improved definitely though. Keep on making reviews.

  • The other two... are those kit-lenses ?

  • @MaarccsSwhiite, I would recomend 18-200, 18-250, 18-270. If you can't find Nikon try Tamron.

  • what camera is that?

  • i pity those lenses....boom.baaam...srkkk..sqeak. ur to harsh on it.

  • I recently bought a Nikon D40 and recently purchase a Nikon 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Nikko, and I think it was a mistake I should had bought the one you are reviewing, it's a hassle to be replacing one lens from the other etc.. Any recommendations which lenses I should look into for my next purchase. :-) On this video can you tell me what model is it, I'm a little confused.. Thank you

  • @MaarccsSwhiite depends on what do you want to photograph...

  • @MaarccsSwhiite depends if you want a normal zoom or wide angle.

  • Why don't you just throw the lenses at the wall and kill them quickly! lol

  • @chevyfan1a4 because they're Nikon lenses and it takes a lot more than throwing them at the wall to kill them ;)

  • thanks

  • Un peu trop speed , le gard

  • This lens is OK. I've been using it for a few months now in virtually every kind of situation. Like you said it's great for traveling and a decent all-around lens however for portraits I've been very disappointed. The pictures are very soft and not sharp at all so I decided to upgrade to the 80-200mm 2.8 AF-S and the 50mm 1.8 and couldn't be happier with the better quality. I still use it though for events because of the focal range but I hope to upgrade to the 24-70mm eventually.

  • I have the 18-105 kit lens that came with my D90. In your opinion should I replace the 18-105 w/ the 18-200 VR or should I complement what I have by getting the 70-300? I did get some hands on w/ the 70-300 briefly and thought it was slow to focus? Lastly, is the 18-200 2.8 VRII overkill on the D90?

  • the nikon 70-300mm VR lens in great but you will have to switch lenses. If you want a lens that does everything then get the nikon 18-200mm

  • Thanks for your response. Interchanging lenses is a non issue. Is the 70-300 a better quality lens versus the 18-200? Also I meant to ask if the 70-200 VRII was overkill on the D90?

  • the nikon 70-300mm VR is better quality, and the nikon 70-200mm is only overkill if you dont need what it has to offer. the nikon 70-200mm is meant to be used extensively, in low light, and for fast subjects.

  • @Itchhhh i have the 70-300 its not a bad lens i can take shots from about 25 meters away with amazing quality

  • Comment removed

  • QQQQ whats so bad bout sigma??

  • many of sigmas cheap lenses are just not that good. I would save up the money and go for a nikon if you can.

  • Stop abusing your lenses!

  • @bigrahizzle

    Ha Ha I agree

  • @bigrahizzle who's abusing their lenses?

  • @Misana ummmm you!

  • @bigrahizzle nope! not at all

  • do you mind making a specific and detailed review of the nikon d3000. sample pictures taken by you would be better :D

  • I do have a review of the nikon d3000. but I do not own the camera so I do not have it in the video. also there are two reasons I dont show sample images, first because the images I do take are taken in a store and second you wouldnt be able to judge the quality of the pic from the youtube video.

  • Is the 55-200mm vr is better than the 28-200mm AF-D in terms of optics quality and sharpness? I have a d90 and I want to sell my 28-200mmD and get the 55-200 but I do not know if its worth it. I' m also considering the 70-300mm vr. If the sharpness and optics are just similar, I'd rather keep the metal and tank-like 28-200mm over the plastic VRs. Thanks.

  • the 55-200mm vr lens is probably better, but if anything I would go for the 70-300mm which is an amazing telephoto lens.

  • it could be worse i could have been comparing it to a fucking tamron lens lmao

  • WELL OBVIOUSLY NIKON IS FUCKING NIKON.

THE OPTICS ARE STRAIGHT OUT OF GODS EYE.

sigma on the other hand can compare to nikon, but not beat nikon

so if your on a budget go with sigma.

if i had a wad of cash id get me a d3x with this lens

  • Sigma 18-200mm Has a lock for creep.

    Nikon 18-200mm VR doesnt

    Nikon 18-200mm VR = 800$

    Sigma 18-200mm OS= $300

    Its like asking whats better?

A Mercedes SLR class or a BMW 9 Series?

    Both Great Same Performance

Its all about Brand and Popularity

  • I have to disagree with you, sigmas performance cannot compare to nikon. I have used sigma before and will never use them again.

  • I have three Sigmas. I disagree with you. Sigmas produce bit sharper pics and colors are warmer than Nikkor lenses. But....

The cheapest Sigmas are terrible, for example 70-300 is terrible, but when you go to expensive class which starts from 600$, then you will get good lenses from Sigma.

Sigmas prime lenses are very good and telephoto lenses too, but All-in-one zoom lenses are not so good as Nikkor. I prefere you to try 120-400mm Sigma, which is very good Telephoto lens in good price.

  • Sigma lenses all-in-one zoom lenses from focal length around 18-300 are bad. Sigmas are good lenses, some is very heavy, but some is very light and very good.

I can say to you, that you should try Sigma, give it another try. I bet you will like them, but Nikkor is sometimes better that Sigma, especially in All-in-one zoom lenses.

  • I am very interested in getting an 18-200mm, I have been considering Nikon and Sigma. I think i might be sold on the sigma only because of the price, also in other reviews it seems to hold its own. What is your opinion? would you spend 400 to get the sigma or wait another 4 or 5 months to afford the nikon? thanks for your help!

  • I would get the nikon

  • you think its worth the extra $450?

  • yes I do

  • i would get the nikon with VR if u hand held most of the time but if u use tripod u can go with the Sigma. BTW QQQQcon u didnt say how the 18 - 200 mm suffer from its own weight. when u point it up and zoom all the way out and zoom back a bit, it slowly fall down, same goes for the other way around. when u point down and zoom a lil it extaned.

  • for me i got the 70-300mm and i dont mind changing lens but if u dont want to change lens get the 18-200mm. the 70-300mm zoom is more stiff so it wont fall on its own weight

  • @QQQQcon get the tamron 18-270 vc

  • HI, I have a d90 with the 18-105 kit lens and I was wondering if I should get the 70-300mm G or 55-200mm with it or just save money and get 18-200mm and sell my 18-105? Thanks!

  • nikon 70-300mm vr lens is the best choice for you.

  • lil nervous buddy? xD

  • well what lenses except the lenses that canon makes themself are compatible with this camera?=

  • whats your opinion of the 16-85mm?

  • it is a great lens if you pair it up with the nikon 70-300mm vr lens.

  • why would you wanna pair this lens with 70-300 vr. the only benefit you get is 200-300 range and you want to pay $560 for only 200-300mm range??

  • with the nikon 16-85mm lens not the nikon 18-200mm lens.

  • that makes lot more sense than thx

  • This will work on my Nikon d40 right?

  • yes

  • Hi, I noticed that you have a flower shaped hood for your 55-200mm lens. May I know the model number of the hood. 55-200mm came with a bayonet hood and I've never seen a flower shaped hood with that lens. Nice review though!

    Cheers

  • sorry I sold the lens three years ago.

  • Its was a flower shaped hood for the non-VR version of the lens.

  • OMG I want one SOO badly, but cant afford one :(

  • what is the point of nikon designating this lens dx? Dx should mean that the lens is made to fit a dx sensor. This means that there should not be any cropping due to a smaller sensor b/c the lens has adapted to the cropped sensor. Should this not mean that at 18mm, you actually are getting 18mm and not 27/28? and at 200mm you are not getting a equivalent of 300mm since there should not be any cropping? please inform me if this is wrong

  • I see what you are saying but saddly that is not the case. Even with dx lenses you have to multiply the focal length by 1.5 x to get the true focal length which on nikon dx cameras is 28-300mm.

  • what is the advantage of using a flower shaped lens hood like that vs. the chinese wok shaped of drinking glass shaped lens hoods?

  • I didnt think you could use a chinese wok shaped lens hood. the flower shaped lens hood is the one that comes with the lens so I would trust it.

  • i see. my kit doesn't come with a lens hood. so im looking for some aftermarkets. i bought a flower shaped hood like that, but i have noticed that when the lens is fully zoomed out, parts of the flower hood is visible in the frame. my lens is a kit lens 18-55mm

  • I thought you were talking about the nikon 18-200mm. When I had a nikon 18-55mm I never used a lens hood. I dont know which would work better. I personally would just not use a lens hood.

  • oops, sorry man, i wasn't clear enough, but anyway, thanks for the infos. but may i know why you opted not to use a hood on an 18-55? the same problem as i am experiencing?

  • Since a hood never came witht he lens I simply just didnt bother getting one. I never had a problem without it.

  • omg sell the other two ones and buy something others.. you don t need the 18-55 and the 55-200 any longer!

  • they have been gone for a long time now

  • @lonelykatana

lol me too! I think I'll go with a motorcycle instead of a car though!

  • Since this lens is a dx lens, will the 1.5x crop factor have any effect on the pictures from a d90. If so, why? What would be the point of designating it dx?

  • the nikon 18-200mm lens is actually a nikon 28-300mm lens on the nikon d90 or any dx camera. Since the nikon d90 has a 1.5x crop factor you have to multiply the original focal length (18-200) by 1.5x giving you 28-300mm. The difference between an FX lens and a DX lens is that an FX lens covers an area that is 1.5x larger than that of a DX lens.

  • so for 750$ this isnt considered professional?

  • no it is not because of its plastic built. However professional lenses tend to cost around twice as much.

  • wow lol i picked the wrong thing to get into

    great review though

  • Distortion - There is distortion at all focal lengths. I own the lens and shoot a lot of walls and square things. I was not happy with the results from this lens. As was mentioned, some of it can be corrected in Photoshop, but not all of it since it produces lines that looks somewhat like a mustache. If you do work that must have straight lines, get another lens. I suggest a micro Nikkor or a prime lens.

  • Good review but it looks like youre gonna have a stroke

  • I never liked the quilty of my Nikon 18-200mm it was WAY to slow and the quilty of the glass was not worth the price nikon wants its not even a Nikon lens its a 3ed party with Nikon name.

  • I just got the 18-200VR about a month ago and I haven't really used it in windy or harsh climate, I can see that dust has gathered behind the front element it doesn't effect the picture quality but I wanted to know if it's normal to have dust so soon or if it's a defect in my lens.

  • This is normal but you should probably be careful where you put your lens. Make sure you keep it in a clean bag or case.

  • Very helpful thanks a lot!!

  • Nice video.

BUT when will the Americans learn to pronounce Nikon properly

The Ni comes from Nippon, (Nippon Kōgaku) the double pp makes the i short not long like a Y . It is Ni Kon not NY Kon.

  • Haha very true, Im American (I hate calling myself that cause I havent lived in the States for years) But when Im in the US, store clerks always correct me, very annoying.

  • Have you thought about buying the 70-300mm VR it's a full frame lens. It doesn't have lens creep effect and also has manual override. with DX camera of course it's 105-450 equivalent.

  • It is a great lens for dx cameras but not for full frame.

  • for what reason it's not good for full frame?

  • not very sharp

  • just being sarcastic a little, it is a decent review, unbiased.

  • can you adjust the aperture on the actual lense and not just through the camera controls

  • I'm afraid not

  • Hey I recently got a D300 w/18-200 mm. Good lens, but hard to get a small depth of field to blur backgrounds.

Btw, do you use UV filters or do you think it is not really necessary?

  • I use a uv filter to protect my lenses

  • same here!

  • I dropped my camera/lens attached (18mm - 200mm) twice onto a marble floor. The UV filter shattered on both occasions and one of which I needed a vice to get it off the lens. I think the UV filter helped to soften the blow though. One advantage of dropping the lens was that I don't get lens creep anymore! LOL!

  • I need help! I live in Australia and i own the D80 with 18 - 135 and 70 - 300. I'm looking to buy the D300 and i need a new lens around about the 18 - 135 or higher as mine doesn't autofocus. if i get a new lens it would be best if it has a 67 mm diameter front and VR. PLEASE HELP.

  • I would get the 18-200mm or the 18-65mm. They both have vr and the 16-85mm has 67mm threads.

  • Sorry about asking so many questions but what would be a good wide angle lens with 52 mm threads and good f no. Thankyou in advance.

  • the only lens that has a 52mm thread is 18-55mm lens

  • hey umm can i see some of your photos with the 18-55mm on flickr? (im closer and closer)

  • where do u get the things that are on the outside of your largest lens.. its the protecter thing. and can u get it for the 18-55 mm?

  • they come with the lens, there isnt one for the nikon 18-55mm

  • Yes there is! :) just got one myself! it's called Nikon HB-45 :)

Great review btw! don't know wether i should get the 18-200 or the 70-300..

  • the aftermarket hoods for the 18-55mm dont work because the lens doesnt have IF, so the hood spins around when focusing. on low zooms, you can see the hood in your pictures

  • Hi Conor,

Firstly,Congratulations for the great quality of your review...

My question is: should I buy the nikkor 50mm f/1.4D for portraits in low light condition or the 18-200mm does this job well? Thanks!

  • for low light I would go with the 50mm

  • hi conor, again me ;-) i've read in a few different reviews the 18-200 isn't as sharp as the 18-135. i do have the 18-135 on my d80, do you think it makes sence to change it for the 18-200, or should i save money to buy other lenses like 14-24 2.8G? ;-)

  • dont get the 14-24mm for the d80 it is a waste. I dont like the 18-135mm as much as the 18-200mm because it isnt as well builts as the 18-200mm and it doesnt have vr.

  • hi con, why it's a waste? 12-24 for DX, as you said before - so the d80 is a DX ;-) which wide angle would you recommend for the d80? thanks

  • the 12-24mm

  • i'm so stupid - i've mixed it up 12-24, 14-24... sorry con, everthings clear - i'm going to borrow the 12-24 for this weekend - thank you again!

  • good review video, which lens do u recommend for the hd video with the D90? is the 18-200mm lens also better with video recording? since i don't want to switch lenses when i travel.

    Thanks

  • the 18-200mm is fine

  • yes

  • does it have an af motor?

  • Thanks for the review,

i just got the D40, and I was wondering which lens I should get for taking pictures of sports

    Thanks again

  • Propbly the 55-200mm or 70-300mm

  • it depends on wich sport are you talking about and what's your position..

  • To my comment below which lens would you recommend for the D90. Also will you notice any quality in a print (large size) with the D90 vs D300? I want to make sure my prints look good once printed!

Thanks again I look forward to your response!

  • I suggest the d90. There is no difference between the prints. I would get the 18-200mm.

  • thanks for the great review. I am a beginner photographer that will be taking pictures of babies and kids indoor and outdoor, using natural light. I can't decide between a D90 and D300. First what you would recommend? Also I was thinking maybe getting the cheaper body and a better lens. Which lens would you recommend for photography of children?

    Thanks again for everything!

  • Thanks for sharing this video, I just bought my D60 & I'm looking for extra lens, this has been really helpful

    regards from mexico

  • I'm wondering if this lens is worth it. I'm intrested in getting this or the 16-85mm with the D90. Any ideas?

  • I would get the 18-200mm because of its great range.

  • great review, you are the man.

  • Very educational. This is the one to get. I been doing a lot research and experimenting with my d90. I just got the 18-55mm which does not satisfy me a lot. At least I avoided buying the 55-200mm and I can use the money towards this one. Thanks.

  • great review! thank you

  • i didnt quiet catch, the big lens is the 18-200 ? or there are both like the one on the left with white cap?

heh i would always choose quality and metal for wight, a tripod is for steady shots, or pump your muscles ;)

PS are all of them VR ?

  • what are the things plastic things on the ends of the lenses

  • lens hoods, they prevent anoyying light coming from the side creating flares etc

  • you sound different.

  • thanks man ... really helped

  • great review man, i just want to ask u, if the 18-200mm works to D60.tx

  • yes it does

  • Would you recommend a UV filter ?

  • yes

  • There isn't an "equivalent" of 10x optical zoom, but the 18-200 does indeed cover that area.

  • Good stuff. Just one suggestion: whenever you show something to the camera, don't move it so quickly. Let the object a couple of seconds in front of the camera so that it re-focus and people can "re-focus" their eyes too.

  • hey man... i have seen many if your comments here, good job, keep going

  • you did a good job buddy,

    Good review!

  • how do you like the 18-200mm on your d300?

  • great lens for all around photography and when I just want to carry one lens.

  • Thanks so much now Im going to get one you convinced

  • can i use this for my old d100 camera?

  • sure can

  • Very informative.

  • can i use this for my Nikon D60?

  • yes

  • thanks very much for the info! I've been looking at this lens for a while now.

  • Wow, very informative.

  • Very nice review. Cut straight to the points. Mine just came in the mail... now I'm waiting for the camera to come. I cant wait to use it.

    Keep up the good work!

  • price?

  • 700 dollars

  • I just got a nikon d200 with this lense and am disappointed in the lack of sharpness and clarity. I'm an enthusiastic novice and this is my first really big camera. I was taking really detailed photos on a lumix panasonic fz50 and I just cant find it in this new lense i purchased...do you have an comment about the clarity or sharpness of detail on this lense or any advice to make my new lense work for me maybe I don't have something set right.
