Nzeogwu and others (mainly igbo) carried out a coup and killed prominent Notherners (albeit in a very corrupt government). Power was handed to Ironsi, the highest ranking military officer. Ironsi was undecided in executing Nzeogwu and co as some quarters hailed them while others chided them. The Northerners Killed Ironsi and took over but did not stop there. They started a mass killing of Igbo officers but did not stop there. contd

Ojukwu answered the call of his people, given his position at the time, to withdraw from the evil men who were slaughtering Innocent south-easterners. After answering the call, he led the people in the defence of their land. Although we lost (any body with any brain who has the ability and seeks to learn, knows why we lost) we fought bravely against all odds and held out for 3 years and will fight again

Ojukwu was not born in Lagos, he was born in the north. He only attended high school there; King's College. This was back in the days when leaders spoke at least 2 of the 3 main languages beside English. Most people don't know that Babangida speaks Igbo fluently.
