a few things... first, you have about 5 or 6 times the amount of drive on there. That was the whole EVH trick was *volume*, NOT **gain** (drive/distortion) this is why he was able to put the echo plex through the front without an effects loop... you can hear the crunch or the slapback on 'Runnin' with the Devil' ..... it's a LOUD cranked Marshall with the voltage dialed down... doing that alone gets you 70% there... the other 30% is in the fingers. This amp is too crunchy & tinny.
the only amp that I have heard that can NAIL old VH in the Suhr Badger which is basically an old plexi with a built in power scaler (variac) which lets you dial down the voltage to get a cranked amp tone at much lower volumes... no, crazy distortions, no 50 knobs, just tone. It's also a lot less then many of these amps that claim to get the "brown sound" it's also less expensive, they record great and the harmonic overtones are to die for... it's not a metal amp, it's old rock/VH
@DylanB003 at that time evh phase 90 should check out the 100 it rips. Amp settings gain just pass 1 oclock, bass bottom button on, just pass 1 o clock again, treble 2 o clock or so, lead just pass 10 o clock, presence@ just pass 1 o clock. I just got a Nova system it makes the lots better sounding with a EQ on, it smooths the amp out really nice with little compression, highly recommend it!
well you get the picture lol thx
