i don't think i would call this music. there are some nice sounds in here, but this is stretching the definition way to far for my taste in the same way that "art" does. Yes technically anything is art.....but not everything is good art. Similarly this isnt great music... but the sounds are a great demonstration of synthesis.
Oh,and another thing...that dancing lady there, she gives this music a really nice and "different" touch.Through that, this appears to be not off this planet..really spacey o.o
This sounds somewhat like...the origin of sound. This music is very unique in its own way and even though it appears primitive compared to what we can make nowadays,it sort of sounds waaaay better to me.Kinda funny :P.Wish there was more of this..
wtf is this? what have I stumbled upon on youtube? what is it with all this ppl with turning a bunch of knobs making this crappy noise? ....like they need to turn all those knobs! hahaha. effin geeks hahahaha
@rwoods2k -what a silly tool. its LIVE,ELECTRIC,REAL,music..When there are so many patch possibilities,a man(or lady) stays pretty busy twerking those knobs and patch cords..lets see what YOU can do with a classic style analog modular, besides use it for a table or stare at it while crickets chirp.. ...chirp... ..chirp...zzzzz
Hmmm...define "potential". Of course you can do nice Basses, Leads, Pads and other "musical" Sounds with that Synth. But isn't the potential of that instrument that it could also generate that weird noises and unheard tones?
what is that woman dancing to man she on lsd man no make it lsd mix with x pill.the guy is just not paying any attion to the woman dancing to see if she is still living or didnt crook with brain tumur. THe syth is a great great piece of insurment if used right noy like frankin fag whos running it lol.
arrghh boring ....and no im not going to leave that statement unjustified....this is like the old school of synthesis where the people didnt know how to use them to make anything but random noise or playing classical music with awful harpsichord patches. we have come so far from this if you want to hear somone make a synth scream in a hendrix/guitar kinna way go listen to simon posford/shpongle. this is amature
Can i just say that alot of the posters here mis-intrepeted this video completely.
Thats quite embarrasing if any of you consider yourselves appreciators of art. Your probably the type that looks at a turd and tries to romanticise it. I believe your lying to yourself if you think you understand art.
Anyway i forgot to mention, the way the 'clicky' movements are picked up in the beginning is quite impressive. What functions we're mapped to the triggers ?
hmm. maybe you don't know what happens in this video. the female dancer movements are captured by an ultra sonic interface and this informations controls the synthesizer. nobody is making music, it is only a translation of the movements. ok?
The information controls the synthesizer? Funny. It seems as if the guy is controlling the synthesizer. Looks like an old Analog synthesizer most likely from the 70's or early 80's. I think it's a Moog Modular of some kind. And it seems very much as if that guy is making music. Ever heard any of Tangerine Dream's songs or perhaps Kraftwerk's or Klaus Schulze's? It was kinda like that in their early years.
Well done ! Its something i've been thinking about for some time. I've got some other ideas aswell !
Nintendo Wii perhaps ? :) Interactive music/visual game that tracks movement with a camera and triggers sounds. Would be alot of fun for users if you had to dance a certain way to make elements of a song and also triggered visuals.
So doesnt that mean music made of sounds / noises? because, fair sure the ryhthm, melody harmony, are noises?
Some people like this too you know, also read the descriptions below on what took place, its pretty ironic for someone as dense as yourself to say someone is an idiot ;)
Verse, chorus, verse= predictible, boring music for the layman. This is art. Don't like it? listen to the radio or mtv to tell you what "music" you should listen to. Give me a challenging listen anyday over that top 20 crap.
Firstly, I never stated that music has to follow the verse, chorus, verse format. Secondly, mtv doesn't even play music, it plays bullshit reality programming. Like yourself I prefare a challenging listen to most of the commercial music out there, but this wouldn't be it. It's pretentious bullshit.
The guy playing that syhth also sells Club of the Knobs synthesizer modules. He wasn't playing the synthesizer, the synthesizer was interpreting the dance with sensors placed around the dancer. Some ove the videos have their moments. To "PimpMyFahrrad" this guy pays his bills with his modular synthesizers.
why is it that these incredible machines always seem to fall into the hands of people who seemingly have no idea what the hell they are doing and end up making a fine instrument into a huge noise box. its like taking a fine tuned grand piano and smashing it to bits and calling it music.
You know what - I'm 100% with you. They call it "experimental" music... yeah, right - I call it "crap"... they call themselves "professional sound designers" - yeah, right - bunch of idiots with huge and expensive modulars and have no idea how to use it.
I'll buy my own DotCom someday, but be the God my witness, I will use it for the good of mankind.
There are probably 1-2 people on tube who are actually playing their modulars.
hmm. maybe you don't know what happens in this video. the female dancer movements are captured by an ultra sonic interface and this informations controls the synthesizer. nobody is making music, it is only a translation of the movements. ok?
Thanks for taking the time out to explain what's actually taking place here. I think the viewers needed it for sure. I personally feel that if your going to demonstrate the full potential of these great modular systems why would you limit yourself to musical clichés played on piano type keyboards. Different forms of experimental triggering for these machines is for me, very exciting.
Make some music... Jean Michel Jarre for example - he has 100 times more gear than this guy (including modular synths), and yet he doesn't get lost in it - he makes music.
You CAN put noises in a musical composition - but this, good sir, ain't a composition... it's like hitting piano keys randomly and pretending that you know what you are doing: would you call that music?
well i think many of those people have an idea what they are doin´, but i also think that many of those are just bad or no musicians. some are just proud to own such a big synth, others are like kids and think everyone should be impressed like they are themselves by creating...crap. it´s no wonder, cause the average musician is relativley poor.
and the average rich person is a bad musician. (prejudice??? - a kind of maybe, but somehow i know i´m right) noise is great !!! in the right context!!!
most time when i want to reply on a comment, it appears not below the comment i wanted to place it (in this case wyrehedd242) but on the top. can anyone tell me what i´m doin´wrong ??? by the way i wanted to say that this noise isn´t bad at all, but only because that girl is dancin´ and because it´s a part of a performance...though, it seems to random and just listening to it doesn´t tell me a story at all. o.k. it´s crap.
NOTHING could be as horrifying or as scary as that Chains of Love bit you have on your profile Wyrehedd - what gay pride festival was that from sailor?

tie32101 3 years ago
the counter intuitive elements in this piece at first, capture my attention. ( the historical dance set against a synthetic artificial score.)
The piece slowly turns away my attention away when the elements never find any intellectual collaborative relationship.
Its as if they exist in two separate dimensions placed side by side; one completely unaware of the other.
Thats an interesting idea, but the work never finds a way to expose this circumstance. Both parts just ends simultaneously.

I have grown out of this kind of criticism towards other peoples art.
First, its pointless and unproductive.
secondly, its boring. Who cares what you think is good.
Thirdly, it ends the conversation about the work in question.
Why not tell us how and why this doesnt work, share some insight with examples of other similar work that is successful in your opinion.
Things that are completely awful I tend to ignore them, its not worth the effort.
This provoked u so it has some value.
