I am most disappointed by this interviewers questions, and judgemental attitude. He perhaps forgets the quotation from the Holy Bible that tells him to "judge nothing till the time of the end." As I see it, this interviewer was being really unjust in trying to lay fear into the heart of a pure man. This wonderful soul was totally honest, and courteous, and considerate, he was patient and compassionate towards the interviewer.
Feelings can be false when based on incorrect info. Many people claiming to be "Christian were nothing of the sort. They were fortunaires, and greedy liars, and murderers. A true Christian is not one who says he is one, but one who follows the teachings of the Christ. Custard was not killed because The People hated Catholic Irishmen in blue uniforms. He was killed because he was a murderous evil man. But I guess he got the point.
With all due respect Martygough, but eventhough you have Native American genes, your decision to be a Christian (which is your individual right, don't get me wrong) makes you just that, a Christian. Steve has no right to say other people are wrong for not following Christ. It's not for nothing that there are so many different religions in the world. Therefore it's as good for an Indian to participate in powwows as it is for a Christian to attend church.
As a Native American,I thank the creator, Jesus Christ for people like Steve who care enough about all people to share this difficult message. There is but one way to get onto the right path to God, that is through Jesus.
This is just it? Tell me this then? what about the contact 500 years ago, did all our Ancestors go to hell for not knowing the bible back then? What about before Jesus came? what happen to those people? i like to hear, please...
I am part Native American, and I am also a Christian. As a native American I know that Steve is only trying to reach all people. We've all broken God's Ten Commandments, this makes us sinners. We are therefore not on the right path ,only God can put us back on the right path.God himself became a man and fulfilled that path for us, Jesus Christ. Men see this truth in shadows. The true revelation is seen in Christianity, Steve is just showing them how to know the great creator of all things.
I would like to see your credentials and I would be interested in knowing what Christian faith you follow that deliberately seeks out people to condemn them.
Steve isn't condemning anybody. It is Jesus Himself who said,
Joh 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
Those who do not have trust in Jesus the Messiah are already condemned.
I don't see the offense here, Steve is sharing his beliefs with the Chief. Do you really think the Chief believes in the Red Road? Is is a great evil for a man to come to a personal relationship with the Creator.
Tony only knows the Creator through His creation, notice Tony believes in the Creator, but he only wants to know Him on his terms. Maybe some day he will think differently because of Steve.
It's only a Christian doctrine Steve, to see it as sinful to look at a woman with lust. Why should any normal and healthy man feel ashamed about it? That's not adultery. It's adultery when you leave your spouse for it. Thank God the Indians are not so guilt-ridden.
The point being there can only be one outcome to this life. The Bible contradicts other world religions, that Christ is the way the light and the truth. So we see here that there can only be one correct view either one of these are right or non at all A) Christianity B) Islam C) Evolution we return to dust etc.
It is out of Love that we show others the error of relying on their own works.
I do believe there to be many more than the number of religions that are under A and B. For what "returning to dust" is concerned that you label "evolution", it's basically a Christian idea to believe that we return to dust, like in "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust", am I right?
What an offensive idea that is to believe that only Christianiy comes from God and all other religions are "man-made". How do you know so well that YOU'RE not in error yourself? Let me guess: Chapter this and Verse that, I suppose?
"What He did not say is that there is only one way to Him."
Jesus never said there were multiple ways to Him!
How can we know who Jesus is unless we can identify? The Holy Scriptures reveal Jesus and who He is. Jesus is a Jew. He died for our sins. He is God and man. He is our Messiah.
I really find this man Steve a nuissance. He is very polite and just prentending to be interested in the powwow ceremonies but evenso he turns out te be just another missionary trying to impose Christianity on Native Americans. And I'm pretty sure you couldn't bring him to sit in a sweat lodge. They've heard it all before, haven't they? Why doesn't he just stick to his own sunday Church-attending kind and leave Bible and Jesus right there?
The reason Steve is doing this comes from Mark 16:15: "And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation'" So, I guess you will just have to be annoyed with us Christians.
i have read the words of blueskywoman and these words have been words that all should listen to as the represent the way of the humanbeging. i am honored by this woman who is of the creator who's heart is pure and her love of the creator knows no bounds.let it be known that we the grandfathers honor you blueskywoman war woman of the light stand tall walk with pride for you a credit to your people.
Thank you Hientuka, that was very beautiful, most of my understanding comes people who walk that path to the Creator--towards the light-this credit goes to my elders & teachers but most of all The Creator & the teachings of our brother Jesus:)..
after listening to this interview it makes me proud to be native as i watch Tong honor himself by not allowing pastor steve to pull him into a disucussion with no winners and pastor steve you dishonored yourself for twisting this humanbeings words. the creator created all the unverses with love and made all there in living with love and the creator ie. god is not judgemental. the red road is the base of the rainbow road where all religion and races are one in the eyes of the creator.
Thank you for posting my comment! Can we all take a deep breath? We all love God--the Creator--Christ--that is obvious! We just go about it differently, and different does not mean less than! Let's find a common ground! What a wonderful thing that would be! The Peace that passes all understanding to everyone! A-men! A-ho!
My understanding of this is that we should live by example like Jesus did---walk his steps so we will be accepted back to the Creator...that is how I understand this"
Quoting my elder David "when Jesus said he is the way and that we can only go thru him to go to the Creator, I really truly believe that is so true but I think the Christians misinterpret Jesus' message..The problem with Christians is they use the bible to be righteous and because of what Jesus said, they only see that and won't accept other ways...Jesus said no one can go the Creator without him....
You just lost the one moral leg you had to stand on--ie, you showed a modicum of respect by allowing a spirited discussion concerning the videos you made, and a discussion that helped one of your parishioners who is of good heart. Now you want to control when, where, what, and how--and that is what this is about--control. Yes, Christ said I am the way, and the truth and the life. What He did not say is that there is only one way to Him. You said that.
Steve, you need to understand that Indians have a different perception of "God" and you just happen to think that only yours is right. They have no business with either Bible or Jesus. Just stick to your own Christian kind please and leave these people in peace.
The answers to each of these questions depend on the existence of God. If God exists, then theres ultimate meaning and purpose to your life. If theres a real purpose to your life, then theres a real right and wrong way to live it.
We expect the truth when we pick up a reference book, read an article; we want the truth from advertisers, teachers, and politicians. We assume medical and food labels contain the truth. However when it comes to religion many flat out reject the idea that any one religion can be true. The Bible contradicts every other 'religion' in this world however, by stating Christ is the way the light and the truth. Knowing what we know as Christians it is just wreck-less abandon if we do not warn others.
How should we live?: in moral honesty and in harmony with the planet and all that lives.
Where are we going?: to the world of spirits before we come back.
You're absolutely right that there's a right and wrong way to live it, but our Ways of Life can differ in this respect or ideas as to what is sinful. I personally reject the idea of there being only One Truth.
Quote: "I am the way and the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me." I just finish talking to one of our elders & he seen your video--
Hi! Steve here! The reason I interview in this way is for all to see how far short we come in keeping the God of the Bible's standards--including me. I must tell you these things, becuase I care about you. I'm not being disrespectful in any way; I'm telling Tony the truth in a gracious way. But here's the deal you guys: Jesus was serious when he said, "Unless you repent, you too will perish." Don't shoot me; I'm just a messenger. If you choose to not believe, that's your choice.
Please consider the words that I spoke. Look them up yourself. Jesus said this: I am the way and the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me." That's narrow, and that's what Jesus said. Take heed, please! I truly do care about you.
You are going all about it the wrong way. If the Afganistan came over here and forced you to believing their way and their Jesus and their bible, what would you say to them. Don't do what you do to the Native Indians.
Stay to your beliefs and do us all a favor and do not come to Pwow Wows and interview us Indians. You will be ignored and or asked to leave the area. Your ethics are not wanted or need in our culture.
Gracious way???! ....and 'messenger' is only excuse/shelter which covers your desire(wich can be unconscious) to feed your vanity. try to imagine what real Jesus would said?
steve, this is directed to you. You need to step back and relize just what it is you are trying to do and be as a person. The reason you do not get the responce that you seek when talking with a Native Indian, is because us Indigenous people have a back ground of whites like yourself that tried to preach the same thing.
The same whites that preached it were also the sameones that Killed, Cheated and tried to eliminate our cultures beliefs.
I am not Steve, but I have a question for you (others please feel free to respond as well). If a Native American that was a Christian was asking basically the same questions that Steve is would it make a difference? Why or why not.
agree with R.Buffalo, a Native Christian would never asked such questions simply because he was brought up in different way. The problem is in western civilization and its system of values and views - they are too self-centred. The worst thing is that people like Steve dont't even realise that they do somethnig wrong and they are confident in their rightness.
Thank you for all your replies. The reason I asked was I have a good friend that is from a tribe in Montana. He is a Christian pastor and runs a ministry for men recovering from alcohol and drug problems. He really has a heart for his Native American brothers. I have heard him ask basically the same type of questions that Steve asked to a Native American student in his program.
The Creator gave each culture a path to God. To the Indian people, he revealed that the Creator is in everything. Everything is alive with the Spirit of God. The water The trees The woods The mountains a The wind is alive. The Great Spirit's breath is in everything and that's why it's alive. All of nature is our church, we eat with our families in church, we go to sleep in church.
My Creator, let us leave people to worship You in the way You have taught them
Our religion seems foolish to you, but so does yours to me. The Baptists and Methodists and Presbyterians and the Catholics all have a different God. Why cannot we have one of our own?"
Steve, what is it that you are trying to do. I hope I don't see you at a Pow Wow I attend. Disrespecting my Native American Indian Family they way you are here.
Religious beliefs seperate people, "Spirituality" brings people together! I agree with RunningBuffalo, I think this interview was done in a distasteful and disrespectful nature.Just goes to show, the demoralization and genocide has not stopped.Steve, remember this scripture: Judge not that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged, it shall be measured to you again. To my Native Family, stay strong and true! Much Love and Respect! Wopila Tanka
How dare he to behave himself as if he is the keeper of true faith! furthemore Steve's disrespecting manner of interviewing was absouletly disgusting.I admired the honor & dignity of Tony who was very calm & polite. To OldMikey: yes we'll grow if we'll listen to each other but white people still didnt learn to listen.Since europeans came they didn't thought that there is something to learn from Native Am-s,they felt themselelfes more developed in both lifestyle and spiritual aspects.
Steve-- one of my questions is the lack of respect of the elder you interview- this says it all?? " Indians Native Americans Enviromentalists New Age Pagan Athiest" titled on the web location?
Out of curiosity are you saying that Native Americans should not listen to any beliefs that are outside the traditions of the Native American people? We all grow in listening to each other.
I agree with you 100% SW. Neither you nor anyone else has to listen to this type of conversation, and yes, of course, you should, and do, practice your traditions. Steve does not represent Christianity, however, anymore than one Native Nation represents all of the traditions of another Native Nation. Steve represents his interpretation of Christianity only, and he, and people like him, keep other people from having a meaningful dialogue by starting the conversation off disrespectfully.
We do need to listen to one another, and in order to do that we must not have preconceived notions about what someone is going to say. You are a respectful person. This video is not respectful. For example, what does the phrase "real live American Indian mean?"
I just realized that the phrase you are asking about is in the description for this video. I really do not know what Steve meant by it. I think I would have phrased it differently.
Old Mikey. If you really want to understand someone else's point of view, you must first step out of your own, not attempt to force your beliefs on others. No one owns the Creator, neither Christians nor Native peoples. The Creator belongs to everyone, and everyone belongs to the Creator.
I respect your point of view, but I do not feel it is necessary to set aside our beliefs to attempt to understand someone else's. We need to listen to one another.
To Christian and Native viewers alike who have posted comments concerning this interview, and some of whom obviously do not understand what Tony does. Even when someone is disrespectful to you, be respectful toward them. That is walking the Red Road, and walking a spritual path period, no matter what you call that path, and it is the way of the Creator, as understood in both Christianity and Native spirituality. Shame on everyone, especially Pastor Steve for setting this whole thing off.
Interesting comment. To me some of what has been discussed here has been beneficial in our understanding of each other. Pastor Steve is sharing out of a concern he has for others. He definitely is not doing it to hurt others.
This type of thing has been happening for over 500 years. How do christians explain forcing native people to convert to christianinty. I mean force because we were punished for speaking our language, and punished for using our traditional ways, how can a christian explain that?
I saw another video with those same questions by pastor steve. I am grateful for the powerful messages the people being interviewed gave. I have to asume pastor Steve means well, but I don't think the Grand Frather has the kind of anger the Pastor suggests. A good father loves his children and helps them if the children should stumble. Well, mostly I want to thank the man being interviewed - that is a good message and witness.
i am a born again christian, and i believe the way that the pastor came to him was very INSENSITIVE, the gentleman had a lot of patience, and his response in the end was classic!
if anything i believe that message would have been heard if it was another native, because he would be more CULTURALLY SENSITIVE. He should have studied Paul before evangelizing.
Please read some of the other comments and you will see that Steve was invited to talk with Tony and Tony is not being forced to engage in the conversation.
Well, two-bit salesman make a living getting "invited" by unsuspecting people to talk about the stuff they're peddling. This is an easily bought religion, a quick infomercial, deviod of real meaning, it's a numbers game. It was shameful to watch how they do it.
I am sorry you feel that way. Steve is NOT selling anything, but instead he his sharing from his heart. To do what Steve is doing you have to truly care about others.
He's selling/pushing an ideology. There are many things that come from the "heart" that aren't beneficial. Over-emotional confused people will act without thinking, impede on others while thinking they are helping them. Multi-level marketing gimics work exactly this way too. More energy is put into these Christian recruiting classes to get the numbers up in the herd than anything spiritual is concerned.
And why are "sorry" I feel this way? Why are you "sorry" that someone has a different worldview than you? Why are you "sorry" that there are still some people that hold a different view spiritually, culturally, and liguistically than you and your kind? Explain that please.
No problem, I said I was sorry you felt the way you do simply because the harshness of your comment. BTW, I am okay with other people having a different point of view and in fact I am interested in hearing about what they believe. I respect and honor the fact it is your choice to accept or reject what I believe.
When will the church and people such as yourself understand that as native people, we have deeply rooted spiritual and religious beliefs which teach us who we are. These teachings are handed down through generations, but are also individual as well. We dont need your christian teachings to feel complete. You believe Jesus is the way...we dont, simple as that.
There are Native Americans that are Christians. I have a close friend that is Native American and he feels that his people are lost and does spend time sharing with them. BTW, he is a pastor.
There are plenty of native people who are christians nowadays. That is the faith they choose and that is fine. Dont push it on those of us who choose the religion and ways of our fathers. I really dont care at all what steve says or what any christian preacher tries to sell.
And that is your choice to reject the message. If I was talking with you and you told me you were not interested, I may ask you why, but leave ut at that. I would also thank you for your time.
We all have the god given right to believe as we choose. If one chooses christianity for sincere reasons, noone should invade their sense of spirituality and connection to god. However, to intrude upon another persons beliefs in an attempt to convert them to your own isnt right. This interview was very intrusive. His beliefs are his, yours are yours. You believe it's your duty to convert him to your way...this is but one huge difference between native beliefs and christian beliefs.
Sorry for the spam, but I posted the comment before I had watched the whole vid. :)
Jesus said this, and Jesus said that. Blablabla. How conservative is it to follow a 2000 year old book, written by people who isn't Jesus. Who have already interpreted the things he said, it's written from a different perspective than Jesus's. I believe that Jesus existed, but not that he was the son of God. He was a man who wanted to change Judaism. There's that.
The Bible (in the original texts) has remained unchanged for 2000 years. The New Testament writers were eyewitnesses to the events and many actually spent time with Jesus.
You are correct. I meant to say most were eyewitnesses.
Concerning the KJV, I do not know where you got your information. The KJV is considered to be a very good translation for the time frame it was done. Yes, we have found many new manuscripts that provide a more accurate translation today.
Here's one mistake in the KJV: It says THOU SHALT NOT KILL. The original Hebrew says Thou Shalt Not MURDER. There is a world of difference between the two. One says you cannot kill. Period. The other says you can defend yourself if you're threatened.
I think if we looked up the Hebrew word used we would find that it can be translated both Murder and Kill. This is why it is good to go back to the original language. Also it is helpful to see how a work is used other places.
Yes, it might be so, but that does not change the fact that they have written the text from their perspective. I mean... What if you would watch a movie with a friend. You probably wouldn't experience the movie in the same way as your friend have, because you see the world from two different ways.. Hm, don't really know how to explain myself here, English isn't my native tongue.. :)
I just have to comment again... Is he trying to convert an Indian man at his spiritual meeting? I'm speachless. To be 'born again' does not mean that you're christian. Christianity does not believe in re-birth, right?
Many have commented on this. Steve was invited to the event and Tony was willing to talk with him. Steve is a friend and when he first posted this video I ran it by a couple Native American friends who said Steve was showing respect
The interviewed man is so wise. The intervjuer just asks stupid, ignorant questions from a christians point of view. He doesn't share your belief! Don't ask questions from the bible's point of view.
You may be right about Steve's questions, but they are still important questions. There are people sharing the Gospel with the Native American people asking similar questions framed in the culture of the Native American and reaching the people.
God came to us in ways we understood, just like any other culture. Where does this guy think the politicians and soldiers that were "Christians", that exterminated over 150 million natives are right now?
Question: Pastor Steve Please tell me why do christians keep only 9 of the 10 commandments? The 4th commandment is the seal of God spoken in Revelation, however christians dont believe in the 4th commandment...I never hear pastors or evangelist, except Larry Huch on TBN speack about this subject
he is talkin to him like he is a child...let anyone believe in what they want...i bet tony knwos more about god then him...crazy how they knew there was a god...even prayed thousands of yrs ago...and no bible...i think its stupid to narrow it down like he did...so from what he is sayin...before we could actually publish the bible...and let everyone know what the word is...and wasnt a born again christian...everyone went to hell..alil stupid?...i would say so...
This video is a disgrace, and this interviewer does not represent Christianity or Christ. I ask Native men and women who have experienced this type of behavior from men and women like this interviewer who claims he is a Christian to please disregard this utter nonsense. Thank you Tony for your beauty, and thank you all Native friends for understanding that men like this interviewer do not represent the majority of Christians.
Tony believes in God and that as long as you believe in him and know that he's there to help you no matter what form, that you are saved. I'm a Christian and Tony makes a whole lot more since than the fat guy (Steve?).
Steve has every right to ask honest questions and give honest answers. If he truly believes in salvation through Christ, he'd be a fool not to talk to Native Americans or anyone else for that matter.
Becuz. what kind of fool goes to a powwow and starts askin questions like these to our elders? tha past is gone and aint nothing no one can do. one thing he can do is quit his job so he aint disrespecting anybody furthermore!!!!
Very interesting comment. Steve had permission to talk with Tony and Tony could have asked for the video not to have aired. Steve has done a lot of other interview videos and this one is really the only place people have accused him of disrespect. Listen to what is being said, it is no way disrespectful.
There is almost a condescending tone in his voice too, something is not right;I dont think that I would feel like I was in the presence of a good person if I was around him,hes way to pushy to be a good person.
I dont like the guy on the mic at all.Hes using the bible for power against another and it looks like hes treating this guy like a kid.A good Christian person would never do this,he almost seems combative as well.A good pastor is uplifting, this guy came off as a jerk that only wanted to use the word and his knowledge of the bible for control over people, thats pretty sick and wrong in my opinion.
Im catholic so I never see any pushy people like this, but still, this guy is being a major asshole even for the Christian type of pastors and it is inexcusable.
I have known Steve for several years and he is just an extremely passionate person. He really cares about people and wants to see them saved. I know he can rub some people the wrong way with his passion, but he is actually a very nice guy.
Susie, I respect your feelings and if you think I am being insulting I apologize. I do care about my country, which includes Native-American people. The reason I share is because I care.
Susie, since I think the problem everyone is having with this video is the venue. I would be interested if you have checked out some of the other videos on this channel. If so I would be interested in hearing your comments. BTW, there are more recent interviews in 'Extreme Interviews' that you might want to check out as well.
I would love to interview a Jewish person or even you for that matter. I appreciate all the comments. If you'd like to see more interviews with all sorts of people--gays, actors, hypnotists, anarchists--just click on another video...and leave a comment! Thanks and may God bless you with knowledge of His will.
....Mr. Pastor...I was the person that asked you to stop filming at this pow wow. You did not ask permission to film and that is the reason why I asked you to stop filming. If you ever do that again you will be escorted out.
Gerry, In the video Steve asked Tony for his permission to film and Tony agreed. I may be wrong, but wasn't this event in a public place and the public was invited. Did you have signs posted that permission was needed to photograph the event. Remember to be fair if you asked Steve to stop filming then everyone needs to stop filming. Personally I respect your desire for privacy, but it looks like you have some new issues to consider in your future plans.
...maybe its me...but I think its common sense or common courtsey...before you enter someone's house you ask permission before you enter. But you are right, next time we will post huge posters for those that don't have common sense or common courtesy.
But I was invited! You said:"Mr. Pastor...I was the person that asked you to stop filming at this pow wow." If you remember, I DID ask permission--which you granted. When asked to stop, I stop. Maybe there was a miscommunication?
You did not ask the people that put that function together. I personally know Tony Little Hawk and he is not a member of the committee. We do not go to your functions and try to convert your followers. As I ask you not to do that at ours. Sorry Oldmikey this does not display common sense. No one has the right to pimp off other people's events.
Gerry, According to Steve he did ask permission and it was granted. In addition he claims that he stopped filming when asked to stop. Again, from what I understand this event was in a public place and open to the public. If this is true Steve showed Common sense and proper courtesy in my opinion.
Susie, I have a different style and personality. The bottom line is I am not Steve and that is who you are having a problem with. I made the comment below, you are free to accept or reject it. I do not feel I have to prove it.
Susie, I have no idea if Steve (or his team) will tape an interview with a Jewish person. I have had several discussions with people of the Jewish faith and they have gone well. I have a lot of respect for their beliefs, since Christianity has its foundations in their faith and the early followers of Christ were Jews
I have a close friend that is a Native-American (I believe he is a member of the Flathead tribe of Montana) who is a Christian and a pastor. He runs a home for recovering drug and alcohol abusers.
Now what would you say about my friend giving the same basic presentation as Steve gives to Tony. This would be a Native-American talking to a Native-American. Would this change the opinions that have been expressed.
That white guy is trying to force a judgement on the first nation ndn, and that is wrong of him to do that.He should interview his own people and forefathers who commited great murder and many other abuses against the indian peoples! Now who is going to hell?!
Susie, I agree in a way with what Taures said. Although I know for a fact that Steve was trying to be respectful of Tony. Based on what I have heard in the past and what Tony said I get the impression that a Pow Wow is a social event and not necessarily a religious event. In that context there would be nothing wrong with Tony coming to lets say a church picnic and asking questions about Christianity and sharing his beliefs.
Gee, Steve, that was kind of ignorant. And at a powwow of all places. If you can't go to one of THEIR things and be respectful of THEIR cultures and views, then don't bleepin go.
I hope one of these days a traditional man like Tony goes into your church some Sunday and insistently gives you all a speech about how wrong you are. Would make it about even.
Thanks for commenting. It is interesting that I do not see Steve as being hateful toward Tony. As for being judgmental, I am not sure the term fits. Maybe you can explain. To me Steve is just stating the Biblical definition of sin.
Interesting comment ... Actually Steve is a very 'real' person and does care about others. I have known him for several years and he has always been a 'passionate' person. I do not think Steve is trying to insult Tony or his beliefs. I have a question for you, "what do you think a Christian should be like?" I am asking because you used the term 'so-called Christian' to refer to Steve.
Susie, another interesting comment. The question, "have you ever stole anything?' serves 2 purposes. One to establish a common ground and the other to define terms. I do not see it as judgmental because I am just as guilty. The idea is not to beat the person into submission, but to get them to think about the issue.
Again, thank you for your honest opinion (trust me I am listening).
Susie, interesting ... so for you death is the end of the line. What if it is not? Then what? Have you ever lied, stolen something, or lusted (something if we are honest we all have done). Have you ever thought there maybe a consequence for these actions. All Steve is doing is asking the question to get people to think about it.
Thank you for taking the time to talk about this. I appreciate your honesty.
Susie, One final comment I am sorry that "Jesus Freaks" have upset you this much. Personally I share because I care, but if you do not feel the message is for you, I will respect that and move on.
Susie, you maybe correct in that the title should have been different. Steve uses these videos on his blog and he is trying to catch the attention of his readers. The first time I saw the video, while I felt Steve was showing respect I was not sure. I have asked a couple of my Native American friends what they thought of the video. They have responded that Steve showed a lot of respect to Tony.
Susie, yes Steve is passionate in what he believes, but he is not forcing his beliefs on you. He is sharing something out of concern. The decision to accept or reject the message is yours (and in the case of the video Tony's). Steve showed Tony respect in sharing with him. Both Tony and Steve are to commended for sharing their beliefs in an extremely respectful way. In any case thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Definitely a bad move. I can see how something like that could cause you to question Steve's message. The truth is Steve is truly concerned about others and believes his message is important. Please don't write us off just because of one person.
Rom.2:14-16 Accuse or EXCUSE? Not everyone "outside of Christ" is going to hell. Men aren't condemned for what they don't know. Only for what they truly know. The Christian God is more just, merciful, and forgiving than even Christians realize.
Rom. 1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities —his eternal power and divine nature —have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
If you are stopped by a police officer for driving over the speed limit (you honestly did not see the sign) does that mean you are not guilty of breaking the law?
J:The devil makes them resist the truth of our teachings.D:Why should they believe them? They have an afterlife of their own.J:They have no concept of one.D:Inaka(sp?)has told me they believe that in the forest at night the dead can see.Souls of men hunt the souls of animals.J:Is that what she told you?It is childish, Daniel.D:Is it harder to believe in than a paradise where we all sit on clouds and look at God?
Black Robe J:I'm afraid of this country. The devil rules here.He controls the hearts and minds of these poor people.D:But they are true Christians. They live for each other. They forgive things we would never forgive.
interviewer is a picture of stupidity in action. Not to mention, rude, obnoxious, disrespect and arrogant.

The true revelation is seen in Christianity, Steve is just showing them how to know the great creator of all things.
martygough 4 years ago
I would like to see your credentials and I would be interested in knowing what Christian faith you follow that deliberately seeks out people to condemn them.
AdantoWaya 4 years ago
AdantoWaya,
Steve isn't condemning anybody.

Kedward2003 4 years ago
It's only a Christian doctrine Steve, to see it as sinful to look at a woman with lust. Why should any normal and healthy man feel ashamed about it? That's not adultery. It's adultery when you leave your spouse for it. Thank God the Indians are not so guilt-ridden.
pindakaas102 4 years ago
The point being there can only be one outcome to this life. The Bible contradicts other world religions, that Christ is the way the light and the truth. So we see here that there can only be one correct view either one of these are right or non at all A) Christianity B) Islam C) Evolution we return to dust etc.
It is out of Love that we show others the error of relying on their own works.
wwarriorww 4 years ago
I do believe there to be many more than the number of religions that are under A and B. For what "returning to dust" is concerned that you label "evolution", it's basically a Christian idea to believe that we return to dust, like in "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust", am I right?
pindakaas102 4 years ago
What an offensive idea that is to believe that only Christianiy comes from God and all other religions are "man-made". How do you know so well that YOU'RE not in error yourself? Let me guess: Chapter this and Verse that, I suppose?
pindakaas102 4 years ago
"What He did not say is that there is only one way to Him."
Jesus never said there were multiple ways to Him!
How can we know who Jesus is unless we can identify? The Holy Scriptures reveal Jesus and who He is. Jesus is a Jew. He died for our sins. He is God and man. He is our Messiah.
Jesus never said there would by more ways to Him.

Why doesn't he just stick to his own sunday Church-attending kind and leave Bible and Jesus right there?
pindakaas102 4 years ago
The reason Steve is doing this comes from Mark 16:15: "And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation'" So, I guess you will just have to be annoyed with us Christians.

Hello Steve,
You just lost the one moral leg you had to stand on--ie, you showed a modicum of respect by allowing a spirited discussion concerning the videos you made, and a discussion that helped one of your parishioners who is of good heart.

Just stick to your own Christian kind please and leave these people in peace.
pindakaas102 4 years ago
Pindakaas102,
What is our origin: Where did we come from?
Identity: Who are we?
Meaning: Why are we here?
Morality: How should we live?
Destiny: Where are we going?
The answers to each of these questions depend on the existence of God. If God exists, then theres ultimate meaning and purpose to your life. If theres a real purpose to your life, then theres a real right and wrong way to live it.
wwarriorww 4 years ago
We expect the truth when we pick up a reference book, read an article; we want the truth from advertisers, teachers, and politicians. We assume medical and food labels contain the truth. However when it comes to religion many flat out reject the idea that any one religion can be true. The Bible contradicts every other 'religion' in this world however, by stating Christ is the way the light and the truth. Knowing what we know as Christians it is just wreck-less abandon if we do not warn others.
wwarriorww 4 years ago
Wwarriorww,
Where did we come from?: good question.
Who are we?: human beings.
Why are we here?: to learn and to be happy.

Steve,

blueskywoman36 4 years ago
Hi! If you choose to not believe, that's your choice.
pastorsteveathope 4 years ago

Your ethics are not wanted or need in our culture.

steve, this is directed to you.
YOU REALLY NEED TO LOOK AT YOURSELF.

agree with R.Buffalo, a Native Christian would never asked such questions simply because he was brought up in different way. The problem is in western civilization and its system of values and views - they are too self-centred. The worst thing is that people like Steve dont't even realise that they do somethnig wrong and they are confident in their rightness.

The Creator gave each culture a path to God. To the Indian people, he revealed that the Creator is in everything. Everything is alive with the Spirit of God. The water The trees The woods The mountains a The wind is alive. The Great Spirit's breath is in everything and that's why it's alive. All of nature is our church, we eat with our families in church, we go to sleep in church.

blueskywoman36 4 years ago
maybe i'm mistaken but it's the first thing I read tracking this video?
blueskywoman36 4 years ago
Out of curiosity are you saying that Native Americans should not listen to any beliefs that are outside the traditions of the Native American people? We all grow in listening to each other.
oldmikey 4 years ago
I agree with you 100% SW. Neither you nor anyone else has to listen to this type of conversation, and yes, of course, you should, and do, practice your traditions. Steve does not represent Christianity, however, anymore than one Native Nation represents all of the traditions of another Native Nation. Steve represents his interpretation of Christianity only, and he, and people like him, keep other people from having a meaningful dialogue by starting the conversation off disrespectfully.
henakesho 4 years ago
We do need to listen to one another, and in order to do that we must not have preconceived notions about what someone is going to say. You are a respectful person. This video is not respectful. For example, what does the phrase "real live American Indian mean?"
henakesho 4 years ago
I just realized that the phrase you are asking about is in the description for this video. I really do not know what Steve meant by it. I think I would have phrased it differently.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Old Mikey. If you really want to understand someone else's point of view, you must first step out of your own, not attempt to force your beliefs on others. No one owns the Creator, neither Christians nor Native peoples. The Creator belongs to everyone, and everyone belongs to the Creator.
henakesho 4 years ago
I respect your point of view, but I do not feel it is necessary to set aside our beliefs to attempt to understand someone else's. We need to listen to one another.
oldmikey 4 years ago
To Christian and Native viewers alike who have posted comments concerning this interview, and some of whom obviously do not understand what Tony does. Even when someone is disrespectful to you, be respectful toward them. That is walking the Red Road, and walking a spritual path period, no matter what you call that path, and it is the way of the Creator, as understood in both Christianity and Native spirituality. Shame on everyone, especially Pastor Steve for setting this whole thing off.

Well, two-bit salesman make a living getting "invited" by unsuspecting people to talk about the stuff they're peddling. This is an easily bought religion, a quick infomercial, deviod of real meaning, it's a numbers game. It was shameful to watch how they do it.
koimogenos 4 years ago
I am sorry you feel that way. Steve is NOT selling anything, but instead he his sharing from his heart. To do what Steve is doing you have to truly care about others.
oldmikey 4 years ago
He's selling/pushing an ideology. There are many things that come from the "heart" that aren't beneficial. Over-emotional confused people will act without thinking, impede on others while thinking they are helping them. Multi-level marketing gimics work exactly this way too. More energy is put into these Christian recruiting classes to get the numbers up in the herd than anything spiritual is concerned.
koimogenos 4 years ago
And why are "sorry" I feel this way? Why are you "sorry" that someone has a different worldview than you? Why are you "sorry" that there are still some people that hold a different view spiritually, culturally, and liguistically than you and your kind? Explain that please.

When will the church and people such as yourself understand that as native people, we have deeply rooted spiritual and religious beliefs which teach us who we are. There are plenty of native people who are christians nowadays. That is the faith they choose and that is fine. Dont push it on those of us who choose the religion and ways of our fathers. I really dont care at all what steve says or what any christian preacher tries to sell.

You believe it's your duty to convert him to your way...this is but one huge difference between native beliefs and christian beliefs.
seanredsky 4 years ago
Steve believes he needs to share his beliefs. The decision to accept or reject is and always will be Tony's.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Sorry for the spam, but I posted the comment before I had watched the whole vid. :)
Jesus said this, and Jesus said that. Blablabla. How conservative is it to follow a 2000 year old book, written by people who isn't Jesus. Who have already interpreted the things he said, it's written from a different perspective than Jesus's. I believe that Jesus existed, but not that he was the son of God. He was a man who wanted to change Judaism. There's that.
FlyingFishie 4 years ago
The Bible (in the original texts) has remained unchanged for 2000 years. The New Testament writers were eyewitnesses to the events and many actually spent time with Jesus.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Paul was not an eyewitness to Jesus' teachings.
And if you would do research, you would know that the King James version is a poor English translation of The Bible.
Felidaise 4 years ago
You are correct. I meant to say most were eyewitnesses.
Concerning the KJV, I do not know where you got your information. The KJV is considered to be a very good translation for the time frame it was done. Yes, we have found many new manuscripts that provide a more accurate translation today.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Here's one mistake in the KJV: It says THOU SHALT NOT KILL. The original Hebrew says Thou Shalt Not MURDER. There is a world of difference between the two. One says you cannot kill. Period. The other says you can defend yourself if you're threatened.
Felidaise 4 years ago
I think if we looked up the Hebrew word used we would find that it can be translated both Murder and Kill. This is why it is good to go back to the original language. Also it is helpful to see how a work is used other places.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Yes, it might be so, but that does not change the fact that they have written the text from their perspective. I mean... What if you would watch a movie with a friend. You probably wouldn't experience the movie in the same way as your friend have, because you see the world from two different ways.. Hm, don't really know how to explain myself here, English isn't my native tongue.. :)
FlyingFishie 4 years ago
I see your point, but all the writers follow the same story line. Yes, they are reporting what stood out to them, but it is still the same account.
oldmikey 4 years ago
I just have to comment again... Is he trying to convert an Indian man at his spiritual meeting? I'm speachless. To be 'born again' does not mean that you're christian. Christianity does not believe in re-birth, right?
FlyingFishie 4 years ago
Many have commented on this. Steve was invited to the event and Tony was willing to talk with him. Steve is a friend and when he first posted this video I ran it by a couple Native American friends who said Steve was showing respect

Well, okay, as long as Tony wasn't upset by it :) I know I would have been! Hence my reaction. :)

There is almost a condescending tone in his voice too, something is not right;I dont think that I would feel like I was in the presence of a good person if I was around him,hes way to pushy to be a good person.
Destructoro3 4 years ago
I dont like the guy on the mic at all.Hes using the bible for power against another and it looks like hes treating this guy like a kid.A good Christian person would never do this,he almost seems combative as well.A good pastor is uplifting, this guy came off as a jerk that only wanted to use the word and his knowledge of the bible for control over people, thats pretty sick and wrong in my opinion.
Destructoro3 4 years ago
It's no different from what they do in the church.
gemelluss 4 years ago
Im catholic so I never see any pushy people like this, but still, this guy is being a major asshole even for the Christian type of pastors and it is inexcusable.
Destructoro3 4 years ago
I have known Steve for several years and he is just an extremely passionate person. He really cares about people and wants to see them saved. I know he can rub some people the wrong way with his passion, but he is actually a very nice guy.

Susie, I respect your feelings and if you think I am being insulting I apologize. I do care about my country, which includes Native-American people. The reason I share is because I care.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, since I think the problem everyone is having with this video is the venue. I would be interested if you have checked out some of the other videos on this channel. If so I would be interested in hearing your comments. BTW, there are more recent interviews in 'Extreme Interviews' that you might want to check out as well.
oldmikey 4 years ago

Personally I respect your desire for privacy, but it looks like you have some new issues to consider in your future plans.
oldmikey 4 years ago
...maybe its me...but I think its common sense or common courtsey...before you enter someone's house you ask permission before you enter. But you are right, next time we will post huge posters for those that don't have common sense or common courtesy.
xicatli 4 years ago
But I was invited! You said:"Mr. Pastor...I was the person that asked you to stop filming at this pow wow." If you remember, I DID ask permission--which you granted. When asked to stop, I stop. Maybe there was a miscommunication?
pastorsteveathope 4 years ago
You did not ask the people that put that function together. I personally know Tony Little Hawk and he is not a member of the committee. We do not go to your functions and try to convert your followers. As I ask you not to do that at ours. Sorry Oldmikey this does not display common sense. No one has the right to pimp off other people's events.
xicatli 4 years ago
Gerry, According to Steve he did ask permission and it was granted. In addition he claims that he stopped filming when asked to stop. Again, from what I understand this event was in a public place and open to the public. If this is true Steve showed Common sense and proper courtesy in my opinion.

Susie, I have a different style and personality. The bottom line is I am not Steve and that is who you are having a problem with. I made the comment below, you are free to accept or reject it. I do not feel I have to prove it.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, I have no idea if Steve (or his team) will tape an interview with a Jewish person. I have had several discussions with people of the Jewish faith and they have gone well. I have a lot of respect for their beliefs, since Christianity has its foundations in their faith and the early followers of Christ were Jews

Susie, thank you for sharing.

Susie, I am curious about something.

JohnWSurridge 4 years ago
Susie, I agree in a way with what Taures said. Although I know for a fact that Steve was trying to be respectful of Tony. Based on what I have heard in the past and what Tony said I get the impression that a Pow Wow is a social event and not necessarily a religious event. In that context there would be nothing wrong with Tony coming to lets say a church picnic and asking questions about Christianity and sharing his beliefs.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Gee, Steve, that was kind of ignorant. And at a powwow of all places. If you can't go to one of THEIR things and be respectful of THEIR cultures and views, then don't bleepin go.
I hope one of these days a traditional man like Tony goes into your church some Sunday and insistently gives you all a speech about how wrong you are. Would make it about even.
Taurus01979 4 years ago
Sounds like Steve tries to convert Tony to Christianity >.<
Andosa 4 years ago
Does this hateful, judgemental man think this is the way to win converts? Then some "Christians" wonder why their evangelism is so unwelcome.
BetterABleedingHeart 4 years ago
Thanks for commenting. It is interesting that I do not see Steve as being hateful toward Tony. As for being judgmental, I am not sure the term fits. Maybe you can explain. To me Steve is just stating the Biblical definition of sin.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Wow -- Can this so-called *christian* be any more obnoxious and insulting at the same time? The native gentleman has FAR more manners and class.
HolyHannah 4 years ago
Interesting comment ... Actually Steve is a very 'real' person and does care about others. I have known him for several years and he has always been a 'passionate' person. I do not think Steve is trying to insult Tony or his beliefs. I have a question for you, "what do you think a Christian should be like?" I am asking because you used the term 'so-called Christian' to refer to Steve.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, I am not sure how to reply. I guess I have a different outlook. Thanks for sharing your point of view.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, another interesting comment. The question, "have you ever stole anything?' serves 2 purposes. One to establish a common ground and the other to define terms. I do not see it as judgmental because I am just as guilty. The idea is not to beat the person into submission, but to get them to think about the issue.
Again, thank you for your honest opinion (trust me I am listening).
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, interesting ... so for you death is the end of the line. What if it is not? Then what? Have you ever lied, stolen something, or lusted (something if we are honest we all have done). Have you ever thought there maybe a consequence for these actions. All Steve is doing is asking the question to get people to think about it.
Thank you for taking the time to talk about this. I appreciate your honesty.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, putting the video aside, how would you answer the question, "If you were to die tonight, would you be in heaven or hell?"
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, One final comment I am sorry that "Jesus Freaks" have upset you this much. Personally I share because I care, but if you do not feel the message is for you, I will respect that and move on.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, you maybe correct in that the title should have been different. Steve uses these videos on his blog and he is trying to catch the attention of his readers. The first time I saw the video, while I felt Steve was showing respect I was not sure. I have asked a couple of my Native American friends what they thought of the video. They have responded that Steve showed a lot of respect to Tony.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, we will just have to agree to disagree here.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Susie, yes Steve is passionate in what he believes, but he is not forcing his beliefs on you. He is sharing something out of concern. The decision to accept or reject the message is yours (and in the case of the video Tony's). Steve showed Tony respect in sharing with him. Both Tony and Steve are to commended for sharing their beliefs in an extremely respectful way. In any case thank you for sharing your thoughts.
oldmikey 4 years ago
Definitely a bad move. I can see how something like that could cause you to question Steve's message. The truth is Steve is truly concerned about others and believes his message is important. Please don't write us off just because of one person.
oldmikey 4 years ago
I agree with you that Tony handled the interview very well. I would hope that he listened to what Steve had to say and gave it thought.

I WANT TO TALK TO THAT CRIST GUY....
